With all of the qb's coming out this year we will see one

Jack Stroud : 4/23/2024 10:40 pm
of them be JaMarcus Russell, one be Ryan Leaf, one be Justin Fields, one be Johnny Manzell, and one perhaps be Peyton or Eli.
This should go well...

But all 4 are going to elevate their team. They’re all better than usual.

Jamarcus Russel? Not sure about that.

Excellent. You'll be taking Brock Osweiler over Patrick Mahomes.

From a quick count I have out of 76 QB’s

13 studs
31 busts
16 solid/avg starters
16 journeymen/backups
And I was being generous with the starters/backups.

That’s freaking scary how hard it is to draft a stud franchise QB.
17% hit rate on finding a stud franchise QB with one of the first 4 QBs taken.
Let's hope the Giants draft the 3rd QB
George from PA : 4/24/2024 3:28 am : link
As the 3rd QB drafted..there were 6 QBs that were decent.

As the 4th QB drafted.....there was only 1...Jordon Love.
1983 is probably still the benchmark …
Spider56 : 4/24/2024 6:59 am : link
Elway - tier 1 because has a ring
Marino & Kelly - tier 1A only because of a lousy defense, and ‘wide right’.

O’Brien - serviceable for the Jests

Eason & Blackledge - misses
That 20 class looks pretty good now,
Simms11 : 4/24/2024 8:28 am : link
but it’s an outlier. Odds are not good that all four of the top QBs will be studs, as history has shown. If you don’t pick one though, you’ll never know?! It’s like the lottery, if you’re not in it, you’re not going to have a chance to win anything. It’s a gamble for sure, but it’s more of an educated guess as teams have done tons of research on these guys.

What does "better than usual" mean? You've no idea (nobody does) if any player in this draft will "elevate their team". Dumb post.
Every year is different, of course, but on the principle of:
Andy in Halifax : 4/24/2024 9:33 am : link
20% studs
40% busts
20% average starters
20% backups
That's based (roughly) on the list above)

It's scary but.. what choice do you have but to try? You can pick your reason for thinking we need a new QB (performance, injury, etc) but it seems highly likely we need one. Unless there are better options, you gotta take your best shot and commit to making it right. I think what happens after you draft a guy matters a lot and we need to be MUCH better with our new QB.

I think Jones had a very promising rookie year that rightfully made us excited, and then our ineptness ruined it and we screwed him as much as you possibly could. Don't repeat that mistake this time.
You're right, Jack
JonC : 4/24/2024 9:35 am : link
just give Jones a permanent job until he's 40 right now and be done with it.

I know Jack is the polar opposite of Terps and is over the top pro DJ, but in this post he’s not saying just stick with DJ (even though we all know he wants to) but if you look at what he says and look at the list above he’s not wrong per se. That doesn’t mean skip and blow off a QB, but a 17% hit rate on a stud franchise QB is hard to stomach. Obviously if the Giants have a high grade on a QB they have to take him but it’s still scary looking at the odds.
He wants to stick with Jones
JonC : 4/24/2024 10:40 am : link
at the root of it, cmon.
Or we can just evaluate them individually

But one thing is for sure: Daniel Jones isn't the answer

Only 40? Brady played until he was 45. They’re similar in that nobody thought they had any talent coming into the NFL. Might as well be the same person just with Jones 20 years younger
Looks like 40% chance of clearly upgrading from DJ
Formerly TD : 4/24/2024 11:23 am : link
A 20% chance of replicating Jones’ “peak” production with cost savings.

And a 40% chance of drafting a clear bust - albeit with cost savings - who we can move on from in 2 years if that’s the case.

Sounds pretty good to me. We’re not winning with DJ so any of these scenarios are better than where we are today.

And don’t forget, in 20 years 50 will be the new 40. Let’s just say “indefinitely” and leave it at that. Sort of like a Supreme court justice.
