Let's say in this scenario, the Giants draft one of Maye, JJM, Penix or Nix. The next issue for Schoen and Daboll to address would be Daniel Jones injury clause that guarantees his 2025 salary.
I'm fine with a QB room of Rookie, Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito. At the same time, I don't even want to risk Daniel Jones getting some sort of injury that guarantees his 2025 salary. So first chance I get, if he doesn't pass a physical and his neck injury doesn't check out 100%, I'd place him on season ending IR.
What would you do in that Scenario?
I would think PUP is more likely, but that means he sits out training camp.

I think PUP is the way they go if there is any question. If not, you carry him but don't play him and hope that some other team needs a QB badly..
He would then have to get healthy practice and be reinstated off the PUP and would require further injury to be IR'ed
We start Drew Lock to avoid the injury clause with DJ.
Another team who is contending, loses their QB for 4 weeks.
DJ could be a very good backup QB and that position has underrated value.
A team like the Lions comes to mind. They are playing to win now and if Jared Goff is out for a month, Hendon Hooker is their backup. If you are battling for seeding down the stretch, you dont want a guy who has never taken a snap keeping the seat warm while Goff recovers.
But if he gets hurt again, you get hit with another $23 million on top of what he costs. He shouldn't play again.
Yeah, you can't do that. Plus I don't care what anyone else here says, the locker room will know the Giants don't want Jones there and you will lose other players because of it.
I would be comfortable in saying Drew Lock has a better chance of starting than Jones does, regardless of the draft this weekend.
Hit submit too soon.
If the Giants draft his replacement, the two sides will work with each other. There's a mutually beneficial outcome where the Giants shelve Jones to prevent further injury, he still has access to an NFL training and medical staff, and they work out a trade. Jones will have to restructure and remove the injury guarantee.
This!! NFLPA could easily say the Giants are sabotaging his career by doing that. I say Jones has done enough of that on his own...
If you shelve him because of the injury clause you are sending a message to the rest of the team and potential free agents that you likely don't want to send.

I'm not sure you are wrong, generally, but your last paragraph, I'm not following. What is the problematic message you're sending to potential free agents and the team? The team is already done with Jones.

You let him Jones the beating while the rookie sits.

I want a QB drafted here but I would love to take that bet.

I think once he can pass a physical they will see if any team will accept a trade with money retained by the Giants. If no, the Giants will "do right" by Daniel and release him.

"If you sign a contract with an injury clause we will bench you if you don't waive it."

What about if he hurts himself training but not on the field? Is that $23 mil guaranteed in the event he gets injured lifting weights or throwing at practice, or only for gametime action? If the former, then we may have a dire need for a large roll of bubble-wrap at Quest.

3. Then is traded for "anything" we can get.
