I don't usually start game threads, but I don't think there has been an NYY game thread for a few days, and I figured it would offer a respite to Mock Draft Madness '24. The Yankees are facing a 1-3 pitcher with an ERA just over 7 tonight. The fucker they face tomorrow night has an ERA even higher, so if this doesn't wake the bats up them I'm not sure what will.
Just in time for a Judge oppo 2 runner.
Yeah man! North Jersey - Clifton/Point Beach...

Not far--I'm from Essex County once upon a time.
Big mistake in the 6th

Rizzo misjudged a liner directly over his head and ended up costing Schmidt to pitch to 2 extra batters and 10 extra pitches. Rizzo has not been very good in the field this year.
I think Rizzo may have residual effects from the concussion last year. His perception and vision seems off.
Or it might simply be that he is 35 and his reaction time is getting slower.
Did they have Orioles listed? That is a good guess..???
That is a lot of stolen bases..6 time all-star too.

639 steals so it can't be him. I know it's one of the guys brought in when the team was trying to make Dave Collins and similar players into RBI guys.

Ken Griffey Sr. would be a good guess but they didn't mention the Reds

1st 6 yrs with the Angels...
The moment I saw how quickly the A’s got the ball I knew Rizzo was going to make the final out. What bad pairing that the most aggressive baserunner on the team is also the slowest

Oops A's to start...

Interesting comment. I missed the game but caught the postgame, and Schmidt came surprisingly close to calling out the pitch selection. He seems like a good guy and that he was just being honest about it.
Anyway ... another W in the books, let's get another tomorrow.

I like the pitch selection by the Yankees catchers on occasions.

I have mentioned this a few times last year, also. Trevino just seems to get stuck and doesn't seem to read the batter, especially later in the game.
Granted I know nothing about MLB catching. I know they have a plan for each batter and know each batter's weaknesses. I just do not see them setting batters up.
FWIW, Schimdt's pitch to Rooker was basically a meatball - missed his location. But Schmidt has issues in the 6th inning. He was lights out in the first 5 and then fell apart. That should not be happening - I believe Nelson said it happened against a team earlier this year too. The team needs to figure out why. It may be on their plan, too.
