Summary of Asshat Reports and Draft Rumors

BleedBlue46 : 4/25/2024 12:32 pm
Rico says we have some kind of a deal in place with AZ that was originally just for Maye or Daniels but now JJM is a possibility.

Kraft supposedly is in full bloom love with JJ McCarthy and only met with him personally out of all the QB prospects.

Rickey said he expects NE to go JJM at 3 or trade down for JJM.

I was hearing Denver is trading down with the Eagles whom are targeting Quinyon Mitchell. Denver would then take Nix. Now, Rickey mentioned a big Eagles tradeup which I expect will be with Denver.

There's also been a new poster who says he talked with a blood relative of a NYG front office guy and that we have the works of a 3 team trade or double trade up with AZ to get pick 3 and allow NE to take JJM at 4. Could the deal in place with AZ be step 1 of a double trade up? AZ would have to be assured that NE wasn't going WR for this to work I believe.

AZ is supposedly split on Nabers vs MHJ with both highly rated. Front office likes MHJ and coaches like Nabers. Seems like they might be happy as long as they get one of the two.

Its been so quiet about the Vikings trade up action that could go one of two ways: they have a deal locked up most likely via the Chargers or they are locked out of the top 5 and no teams want to move down that far.

Then there's the Aiyuk trade rumor which Rickey says is a 3 horse race with NE, DC and NYG. Presumably, Schoen wouldn't be making offers unless he knew he was getting a rd1 QB. Perhaps we end up with JJM/Maye and Aiyuk?

Woodstock and GiantGrit both said we were not interested in JJM. GoDeep said we loved him. Rico said he is a recent possibility.

My takeaway:

The combination of Kraft being so loud about his love for JJM and only meeting with him personally out of all the QB prospects plus the first year interim GM wolf equals NE overpaying their hand for trade downs. Schoen has called their bluff and told them they have a deal in place with AZ and we are happy with Maye or JJM so yall go ahead and get your guy at 3. Wolf could either accept much less for pick 3 knowing he can deal a reasonable package with AZ for JJM, or pick swap with us from 4 perhaps, or do the extremely rare 3 team trade, or take JJM at 3. Of course they could also take Maye at 3, but I don't believe that for a second and I think Schoen doesn't either.

I think there's a chance still that we don't actually rate JJM closely with Maye and Schoen is in a high stakes poker game against Wolf. He is bluffing about interest in JJM, knowing he is Maye or bust. Schoen is winning this game and has a great read on Wolf as they are the ones smiling at their hand giving an easy tell.

I see us getting Maye at 3 or 4 whether NE sits and takes JJM at 3 or we pick swap from 4 or do a 3 team trade. I think we will get Maye for much less than the originally predicted package of pick 6, 47 and 2025 1st. I predict this is done for something like pick 6, 70, 107 and 2025 2nd or less.

As for Aiyuk, it's anyone's guess but I think Schoen will make a strong offer with pick 47 and a conditional pick 4th/3rd in 2025. The Commanders and Patriots could best this offer, but they also could get promising WR prospects with their early 2nd round picks unlike us at pick 47 the pickings will likely be slim for WR1 potential prospects.
Most importantly to me

Glazer says Pats like McCarthy a lot.

Schrager has been in on McCarthy to NYG.

Peppers hinted at McCarthy very early in this process.

This should read Pats like Maye a lot. Sorry!

Yes, there's a real chance we like both JJM and Maye with a slight favor toward Maye. This is the best case scenario for me and would lineup with Schoen having a deal in place with AZ for either one of them. Cost could escalate a lot if it's Maye at 4. I would personally prefer JJM to Maye. I have been hoping to get JJM for a reasonable trade to 4 for months. I haven't gotten what I've wanted for draft Christmas in 15 years since we took Hakeem Nicks in 2009. So, I'm not holding my breath. I feel like we end up trading a lot more for Maye ultimately. T-7hrs 21 minutes and counting!
I am surprised many here are ok

With giving multiple picks this year but not next year.

I am OK with picks next year because we can fill needs in FA if needed. If we don't draft more than a few players in 2024 we need to sign more free agents this year- with cap money we currently don't have.. I think we are creating false value for picks next year.. But, as long as we get our QB...

I believe NE prefers JJM and all the Maye talk is hype to drive the price up. The deal in place with AZ would make NE extremely hesitant to move with Minnesota even if they were able to get to pick 5 first because we could still jump the Pats at 5 for JJM. I expect the deal in place with AZ is a strong leverage point for Schoen in negotiations with NE.

NYG first rounder next year has massive upside. Regardless of whether Jones, Lock, or a Rookie is taking snaps, this could be a 12 or 13 loss team.

It's not a guaranteed top 10 pick, but the probability distribution would suggest it's not much worse than that, and it's not long odds to be Top 5.

I would prefer to give up picks next year too. Keeping pick 47 and 2025 1st should be the priority though. Keeping pick 70 would be great too.

Agreed my dream would be JJM or Maye and then in 2025 we get McMillan whom could be a better WR prospect than MHJ or Nabers. He's the total package.
If they trade up for a QB
jeff57 : 4/25/2024 12:45 pm : link
They won't have pick 47 to trade for Aiyuk. But maybe they'll trade their '25 and '26 1's instead. Who needs high draft picks anyway.

The trade up to 4 would likely not cost more than 2025 2nd and pick 70. That's my preference. I think Schoen wants to keep 2025 1st and pick 47 which he could do for JJM at 4.
Still Don't Understand Trading for Aiyuk

when you could get a good WR on a rookie contract.

I expect they would want the 2 this year and a 2 next year.
Where did the AZ Nabers/MHJ rumor come from?
Finch : 4/25/2024 12:50 pm : link
To me that’s the key to the draft. If AZ is happy with either or those WRs, the price shouldn’t be too much up to 4.
Great summary BB46

I am preparing my mind for none of this to happen and be happy with Nabers, MHJ or Odunze.

I am hopeful for a QB!

Because the odds of you getting Aiyuk quality receiver at #47 is a crap shoot. Bird in the hand...

We would be looking at tier 4 for WRs at 47. All the promising guys are likely go go before the middle of round 2. The pickings are going to be slim.

They have 7 picks in the top 107. I could see maybe a pick swap, but they don't need or want more top 100 picks. The price could go up if Maye is there at 4, but if it's JJM then pick 6, 70 and 2025 2nd for their pick 4 and 4th or 5th would be doable I believe.

I was more hopeful we could get a Leggette or Mitchell or Franklin at 47 before. It's becoming clear those guys will all be gone and we will be looking at tier 4 of WRs at 47 that have limited to no wr1 potential. That's why i think Schoen would trade say Slayton, pick 47, and a conditional 4th/3rd in 2025 for Aiyuk.

if we walk away with Maye and aiyuk, look RB in mid to late rounds... youre talking about a serious view of hope

id hit floor... no way we trade up for a WR...not when nabers is SOOO close in terms of talent.

if pats are on clock and we see that giants logo its for maye. if cards are on clock and we see giants logo appear its for QB maye or JJM
Great

FWIW in the trade for Eli, Ernie supposedly insisted on keeping '04 2nd rd pick (which turned into Snee) vs. '05's 1st rd pick. That seemed to work out ok.
