Does Daniel Jones have any trade value?

tommcd66 : 4/25/2024 1:35 pm
Assuming the Giants eat a chunk of salary, wouldn't one of the teams needing a QB have an interest? NE, Raiders, Broncos (Zach and DJ!)? That injury clause would probably have to go too I suppose. All he needs is protection and some weapons!

It would be nice to start fresh. Good for Daniel too. I can't imagine drafting a rookie as heir apparent and then watch DJ have that lost in limbo dumb look on his face all year.

...
BleedBlue : 4/25/2024 1:36 pm : link
i mean...if you eat most of his salary, then i could see a shit team like broncos sending a 4th. we hate on jones here but he is better than everyone BY FAR in that QB room...

you can also part with him after this season so...
Unfortunately...

No. Just release him if you draft a QB in the 1st

None.

I don't hate him like some here who act like he fucked their mom but his injury history alone makes me want him gone. Never mind he's a runner first. Just not a good enough Qb. Once that contract is gone he's a BU type at best.
Maybe at a cadaver provider

as a study or dissection subject but what are you going to ask for in return.
Not while he is hurt. Maybe the end of the season
Blue21 : 4/25/2024 1:38 pm : link
You'd be lucky coming off an injury to get a 6
Nope

He sucks and
Chris L. : 4/25/2024 1:39 pm : link
he is injury prone....bad combination
You could trade DJ to any branch of the Armed Forces
The Mike : 4/25/2024 1:39 pm : link
And he wouldn't have enough protection or weapons to be successful. Just cut him as soon as he passes a physical and end this disastrous chapter of Giants history.
We'll have to give picks to get someone to take him

Maybe after the season starts
Capt. Don : 4/25/2024 1:40 pm : link
and a starting QB for a contender goes down for 4-5 games. A team like the Lions might call if Goff goes down for a stretch.

Certainly nothing to count on.

If we ate all the 2024 salary
Jerry in_DC : 4/25/2024 1:41 pm : link
Maybe we could get a 7th. But remember too that he's just a rental because he's overpaid by 30M in 25
The only possible way he has any value at all is if:
DeVito32 : 4/25/2024 1:44 pm : link
A) He passes his physical and is cleared to play and passes the trading teams physical.

B) They/DJ remove the injury guarantee in his contract.

C) The Giants eat most of the contract (if that’s possible)

Even after all of that you’re probably at most getting a swap of late round picks.
If the Broncos got nothing for Russell Wilson, what can you possibly expect the Giants to get for DJ?
Assuming his replacement is drafted tonight
logman : 4/25/2024 1:44 pm : link
the sooner the Giants can move from him the better for all parties.

If that's a trade, cool. If it meana a Post 6/1 release once he clears medical, also cool.
Nope..

Nabers @ 6..
Those hoping for Nabers
jvm52106 : 4/25/2024 1:50 pm : link
Should not confuse this scenario with Giants getting OBJ.. OBJ had Eli and that was a Huge factor in his early success..

Daniel Jones will not be to Nabers what Eli was to OBJ, just won't be..
No.
AcidTest : 4/25/2024 1:50 pm : link
He does not.
Of course
pjcas18 : 4/25/2024 1:53 pm : link
he does.

He has value to all those teams out there looking for a mid to slightly worse injury prone QB with a bloated contract.

The key is for Schoen to find all those teams who have that in mind with what they're looking for.
none
knowledgetimmons : 4/25/2024 2:11 pm : link
he's injured. Any trade would be 7th round plus NYG eating some of the money.
Yes...
Amtoft : 4/25/2024 2:12 pm : link
If we add our 2nd round pick and pay most of this years salary he has trade value.
If traded
regulator : 4/25/2024 2:15 pm : link
does that accelerate the injury guarantee? Or is the next team stuck with it?

That's what makes the contract an albatross.

He's not getting cut this year. That would be cap crippling.

christian : 4/25/2024 2:20 pm : link
The short answer is yes he has trade value.

The long answer is he would most certainly have to restructure and forego his injury guarantee, and the Giants would have to eat all but the minimum of his 2024 salary.

In a scenario like that he might fetch a conditional late round pick.

What possible trade value could he have? He was the very worst starting QB in 2023. Worse than Zach Wilson.

The earliest we could trade him is next year.
BigBlueNH : 4/25/2024 2:48 pm : link
It would be a massive cap hit if we traded him now, the same as if we cut him.
No
Biteymax22 : 4/25/2024 2:52 pm : link
Look at what the Bears got for a much cheaper Justin Fields.

Now add a big contract to that and massive injury concerns + the fact that everyone and their brother knows he's going to get cut.
Some fans always believe
Mike from Ohio : 4/25/2024 3:03 pm : link
the players on their team that they don't want anymore because their contract is much higher than their production have some level of trade value. Why that is, I don't know.

Lines of Scrimmage : 4/25/2024 3:16 pm : link
can try but I doubt teams are interested in that contract with the injury clause. I think Jones will prefer to just be cut and then he can choose his path.
You can’t trade him
Rudy5757 : 4/25/2024 3:20 pm : link
He’s injured. You can’t trade a player on IR. Plus he would have to pass a physical with the new team. In addition he has an injury clause, if the Giants want to cut him they would have to come to an injury settlement. So then it’s really not a good idea to draft a QB with a trade up. You would be giving up picks and have DJs high salary this year and next. So the rookie savings is wasted.

Stay at 6 and either get a QB or WR. I prefer WR.
No, none, even if the Giants
Section331 : 4/25/2024 3:27 pm : link
eat a bunch of salary. He’s coming off 2 significant injuries in an otherwise dreadful year, AND he has an injury guarantee. What team is going to give up an asset for him knowing if he gets hurt they’re on the hook? Even if he agreed to waive that guarantee, what would the return be?

Let’s say the Giants agreed to eat the rest of his guaranteed money (I’m not even sure they could do that), I don’t see any team giving up more than a 6th.
The short answer is Yes, he has trade value.
nygiantfan : 4/25/2024 3:29 pm : link
But it requires that poster Jack Stroud to become an NFL Owner or General Mgr of one of the 31 other teams.

christian : 4/25/2024 3:42 pm : link
If Jones passes a physical at the optimistic end of the recovery range, that's the end of July. Unless he agrees to not pursue any grievance (which would light the NFLPA on fire) -- that's the earliest he can be cut.

Getting cut benefits Jones because it frees him from the injury guarantee and it places 36M in his checking account.

It also makes him a free agent coming off a torn ACL, without access to an NFL medical or training staff, 5 weeks before the season begins.

A better alternative might be restructure his deal to remove the injury guarantee, rehab with the Giants with the understanding he won't be playing, but can showcase his recovery, and work towards finding a trade partner during the pre-season.

Any trade the Giants make they will eat all but the minimum of his salary, as they are in the hook for that if he's cut.
His contract makes him virtually un-tradable
Fishmanjim57 : 4/25/2024 3:54 pm : link
I'd love to see him dealt, especially if the Giants get picks in return.
I wish Schoen could make that happen.
Only team that likes Dan Jones
Modog : 4/25/2024 3:58 pm : link
Is the Giants. They have always been higher on him then everyone else
This entire discussion is moot.
BigBlueNH : 4/25/2024 4:05 pm : link
Even if there was a team out there that loved Jones, his entire signing bonus would get accelerated into our cap. It's massive a hit to take this year. We can't trade him until next year, for the same reason we can't cut him until next season.

Revisit this discussion next off-season.
Negative value
TyreeHelmet : 4/25/2024 4:21 pm : link
And I'm not even joking. The Giants would have to add draft assets to get someone to take him.
Yes he will have trade value
section125 : 4/25/2024 4:48 pm : link
once he passes his physical. Despite what some say, once a team in the playoff hunt has it's starting QB hurt, Jones will be a target.
But as of right now, no, nobody would want him as he would cost too much.

I wonder if the niners would have interest as a backup to Purdy.
