Revisiting Draft Night when we picked Daniel Jones

Spartan10 : 4/25/2024 2:52 pm
5 years ago I remember many of us were expecting to draft the pass rusher and then went nuts when DJ was the unexpected pick. Will the reverse happen tonight? We all expect to come out of round 1 with a QB and then will go bonkers when it doesn't happen. I can't remember being this excited/nervous for a draft in years. At this point I don't even know if I prefer getting the QB or one of the WRs.
This draft is one to dread

Trade up, future has promise but current sucks.

Improve the roster, QB sucks and we still suck.

How does the team not suck in 24?

Picking in itself Jones wasn't so bad. It didn't make sense to do it after they paid Eli $23M for 2019. Once they did that they should have used the pick elsewhere in the roster. The real sin was the continued delusion and excuse making to keep Jones starting year after year and ignoring the position in the draft.

That year was instructive for this one in one big sense: if the Giants draft a QB there is no way he sounds 2024 on the bench. Just like in 2019, off the team starts poorly with Jones or Lock the rookie is going to come in. And he should.
I'll never forget the thread with that fake asshat (jtgiants maybe?)

who was adamant that the Giants were not taking Daniel Jones with any of their picks under any circumstances and then had a total meltdown when it happened, lashing out at Eric for no reason at all.
No picking him at 6 was the sin

And then dummy saying he had to do it because of Denver who came out and denied that made it that much worse. It was an absurd reach for a probably a rd 2/3 pick in most years.

I think it will depend on the line more than the record. I would prefer not to put in the rookie until I have confidence we are set on who our starting line is. At that point, I dont think I care even if are at .500

But I am not putting a rookie in there if RT is still a turnstile and the whole interior still can not pick up a simple stunt

The BBI threads all blur in my memory, but yes I do remember a classic meltdown thread with one poster that Eric just let run on and on, and it was both bizarre and hilarious...
This board wanted Josh Allen.
Tim in Eternal Blue : 4/25/2024 3:13 pm : link

Nobody wanted Daniel fucking Jones at 6.

Josh Allen, as advertised, is a stud DE.
Gettleman had 3 at bats

Hit a weak grounder to short

Then a home run

And finished by striking out while the other team was trying to intentionally walk him
As far as i was concerned
redwhiteandbigblue : 4/25/2024 3:29 pm : link
the draft where we took Barkley at #2 was a bad night. I wanted Darnold LOL. So what do I know.....absolutely nothing!
This move really set the team back 5 years

Imagine drafting a QB with the personality of a wet noodle like Dan Jones 6th overall . Forget his flaws on the field, just his lack of leadership skills alone should have been enough to stay away from him. Sigh 5 wasted years
Ah, Dave Gettleman: the gift that keeps on giving.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
was surprised
bc4life : 4/25/2024 3:41 pm : link
but wasn't as excited about Josh Allen as many on the site were. Thought it may have been good year to move down a few slots

I think we can improve the roster and QB this year. Any of the top 6 QBs should be better than Jones from day 1. Of course, if they take one and the plan is sit him for at least the start of the season, the real question is whether Lock is better.
At the time, I din't mind the Giants drafting Jones
Matt M. : 4/25/2024 3:44 pm : link
I did, however, not like taking him at #6. I would have waited to see if he dropped to the 2nd round. But, they liked him enough to take him with a premium pick. That was a mistake.

Denver traded immediately after the Giants took Jones. They can deny it all they want but they wanted him, but settled for Lock. Actions speak louder than words.
