Where do you think Maye would have gone in past 5 drafts?

Interested to hear what you think...

He reminds me of how Herbert had a disappointing last year.

Herbert went very low for a supposed number 1 pick. I think the difference is that this year there are a ton of teams needing a QB. Back when Herbert was drafted, there were less QB needy teams.
I'll go
kash94 : 4/25/2024 5:23 pm : link
2023: QB4. I still think Young, Stroud, and Richardson would go above him.

2022: QB1. Kenny Pickett was the only other first rounder that year

2021: QB2. He goes behind Lawrence, but ahead of Wilson, Trey Lance, etc.

2020: QB4. He goes behind Burrow, Tua, and Herbert

2019: QB2. He goes behind Murray but ahead of Jones, Haskins, Lock, etc

You think Richardson would have gone ahead of him? I'm not so sure (not based on now, but as a prospect).

Hard to say. Richardson's solid performance last year may be making me biased

I don't know if it is possible to be objective in determining where Maye, Williams, Daniels, or JJ would have been drafted in past years.

We have the benefit of hindsight.
We know how the prior QBs have done in the NFL and we are projecting on this year's prospects.

These QBs will be elevated based on hope and the unknown.
My recollection
Eric from BBI : Admin : 4/25/2024 5:29 pm : link
was Herbert's final season wasn't so hot either, similar to Maye.
Maye
Sammo85 : 4/25/2024 5:30 pm : link
would have absolutely gone before Tua and Richardson.
My opinion
Strahan91 : 4/25/2024 5:32 pm : link
2023 - QB2
2022 - QB1
2021 - QB2
2020 - QB 2 or 3 (depending on what a team is looking for)
2019 - QB1
2018 - hard to say, hardly anybody thought Mayfield was QB1 but he went #1
2017 - QB1
My thoughts

2019: QB1.
No shot he goes behind Richardson

Herbert had a good final year. Better than Maye's. Herbert's JR year was sketchy and uneven. I'm sure it didn't help being coached by that imbecile Mario Cristobal.

Easily. And because of his size, he likely, IMV, goes ahead of Murray.
The year he had in 2022
DeVito32 : 4/25/2024 5:42 pm : link
He very well could’ve gone #1 in 2023
Not a big fan of Young…too small for me.
I liked Stroud a lot…a lot more than Young but would’ve took Maye before him.

QB1 in 2022
QB2 in 2021 - although there was a lot of hype around Zach Wilson at the time. Especially after his pro day.
QB4 in 2020 - possibly 3 because of Tua’s injury history.
QB2 in 2019.

My turn:
Optimus-NY : 4/25/2024 5:45 pm : link
2023: QB2. Stroud goes first. Young and Richardson would go after him.

2022: QB1. Kenny Pickett was the only other first rounder that year

2021: QB2. He goes behind Lawrence, but ahead of Wilson, Trey Lance, etc.

2020: QB3. He goes behind Burrow and Herbert (Herbert is almost a dead heat though). Tua goes after him.

2019: QB1. He goes ahead of mimi-Murray as well as Jones, Haskins, Lock, etc.

The average would've been 1.8, so basically the 2ns QB taken on average in the last five drafts IMO.

You can't use performance after the fact, so as a drafted he would have been #1 last year..
Amazing

How many Maye threads and mentions you got Eric. You know don’t you.

Wow, 2019 over Kyler is a bold call, but I think it’s on the money
I think he'd tiered with Herbert + Stroud + Tua + Kyler + Darnold
Eric on Li : 4/25/2024 6:41 pm : link
I think these would be the tiers:

Consensus QB1's:
Burrow, Lawrence, Young, Caleb

QB1 contenders but with meaningful flaws:
Darnold, Allen, Rosen, Kyler (went #1 in weak year to his old coach), Tua, Herbert, Stroud, Daniels, Maye

First round picks but never in QB1 conversation:
Mayfield (was a surprising pick), Jones, Haskins, Love, Wilson, Lance, Fields, Jones, Pickett, Richardson, Levis (went #33), JJM, Penix, Nix

obviously there would be rankings within each tier, i just listed them chronologically. It is also possible JJM is in fact a higher graded player than Maye, these tiers are mostly based on consensus expert opinion.

It’s still hard to fathom that DJ has more playoff wins than Herbert
