How do Daboll and Schoen keep their jobs

LW_Giants : 4/25/2024 11:27 pm
if at least one of JJM/Penix/Nix look great next year, and the Giants win only 6 games?

What would be the rational for keeping them around?

Won't they have proven they aren't the great QB whisperers all had hoped?
they keep their jobs by winning more games than they lose
Eric on Li : 4/25/2024 11:28 pm : link
every signing they've made and pick they make this weekend will be to that purpose.
Maybe Mara
Jerry in_DC : 4/25/2024 11:28 pm : link
has let them know that they are safe as long as they try to make Daniel successful and happy
All of this just leads to a veteran QB imo

I think we are looking at a veteran next year if Jones isn't back in 2025.
Win 8 games
rsjem1979 : 4/25/2024 11:31 pm : link
That’ll be plenty. As long as the Giants are on the fringe of playoff contention after thanksgiving that’ll be enough for a truly unserious franchise.

Have to keep building the team and

they can’t keep replacing GMs. Whoever is QB after next year, he’ll have a better foundation on offense to work with too.
Fair question
John in NC : 4/25/2024 11:37 pm : link
It would’ve been in their best interest to have bought more time with a new QB. If we get the 2022 version of Jones with this more talented WR and OL group, their boss might be just as happy as if they had a rookie QB who showed promise.
They certainly aren’t doing themselves any favors.

You don’t win in this league with poor QB play anymore. Nice pieces that mean nothing if you have one of the worst starting QBs in football.
I bet Schoen out last the GMs that drafted QBs

They keep their jobs by building a winning team brick by brick.

This QB stuff is nonsense and it always has been. NYG are not ready for a championship QB, they have the worst offense and the second or third worst defense in the NFL and have several years of successful acquisitions to go before they are competitive.

In fact, you should hope for 3-14 next year so they can keep getting the pieces they need.

Sheesh. The idea that you would fire the coach and the GM who agreed to take on this disaster before the rebuild is half done is ridiculous.

The problem is that their moves to this point indicate they don't think this is a rebuild. Otherwise I'd agree with you.

Great point! Reminds me of the old saying, “If you make one mistake you are fired, unless you immediately panic because that’s probably going to fix everything.”
If they win 0-6 games, then I'm not sure

Giants fans are going to be in a tizzy, especially if any of the QBs taken after us are playing halfway decent.

If we're still losing, will Mara want the same regime picking the next QB?
They're obviously not as concerned about it as you are.
David B. : 4/26/2024 12:04 am : link
Easy:

Take the best players available in the draft.

Don't overspend for a project QB like Maye when you don't have much draft capital at all.

Don't reach for a redchip QB like JJM when an explosive, super bluechip WR is sitting there -- AND you need one.

Keep trying to fix the OL.

Don't overpay RB and Safety FAs.

Trade for a 25 year old game-changing pass rusher.

Continue rebuilding a team that was devoid of core players and difference makers.

Play the QB you're paying $40m next year.

Continue building the culture you want.

Make decisions like a professional GM and a HC, not like a dumbass fan.

It's not that hard. You just don't like it.

Is still on the table after this year.

This is a multi-year vision, and I believe they've sold that vision to Mara.

Franchise QB will be on the table in free agency or draft next year. More than one way to build a team. Obviously they felt that given the cards they were dealt in where they were picking and how the draft fell, in addition to what it would take to move up, that building the foundation first was the more optimal gameplan for sustained success in 2025 and beyond.

I have NEVER been about short-term fixes over sustained success. I want a perennial winner. There is a road map to that. The Giants got significantly better tonight...a #1 WR, was a huge need and they filled it with an absolute stud, a dominant, elite receiver.

Maybe you get, just for the sake of argument, Carson Beck next year and he steps in with this trio of receivers. Good luck. The key is you have to get that QB and you have to be right.

Or Dart or Ward or someone not talked about yet. There may not be an 87+ QB next year using Sy’s rankings, but there are also enough players with upside that could develop over the next year. Now they could also fall flat on their face and it looks like 2022 all over again, but none of us here know what Daboll thought of JJM/Penix/Nix and that matters a lot to me. Daboll knows that if a QB is holding him back it is his ass in the jackpot so would pound the table if there was one he liked that we could get.

Doesn't the fact that they did scout the hell out of these quarterbacks and still passed on them tell you anything? They had who they liked and they weren't obtainable. 3 quarterbacks went before their pick.

It was not like they totally dismissed the quarterbacks in this class or had the #1 overall pick and passed. We have a strong front office in Schoen, Cowden and Brandon Brown plus a very good offensive staff to help evaluate the quarterbacks in Daboll, Kafka and Tierney.

I would have liked if we came away with a quarterback, because I would feel they had a conviction, but the fact they didn't; tells me they weren't comfortable with who was their.

The Falcons, vikings and broncos felt differently especially where they were picking. Would any of those teams taken their quarterback with the 6th pick?

You are paying your QB 40 million a year and giving him a 6th season. You can’t act like it’s a rebuild when they do that.

Sean, you are so locked in on your opinion that the Giants had to change QB this year that you forget they made an investment and will be able to make a change in one year. They chose to build the team this year. There will be other options next year. The team needs a lot of talent and is not in win now mode. Saying that is a fallacy and you know it.

They have been here two years and one year we made the playoffs and won a game in that.

Last year, with all kinds of adversity we still could have won 8-9 games had we had a healthy kicker and a healthy Thomas. (Jets, Bills, Rams). And that was a very difficult schedule too.

Schoen has made fantastic off season moves- new coaches and free agents. Nabers is friggin awesome.

So again I will say….YOU KNOW NOT WHAT YOU ARE SAYING. You obviously want another QB….we can still get him….his name is Jordan Travis, FSU.

For BD, have your team playing competitive football to start the season. Win games and be in position for the playoffs come December. Division games are critical and no excuse for getting blown out in those.

that the Giants are just playing a different game than everyone else. 31 teams have the mission of trying to compete for Super Bowls

The Giants mission is to be a platform for the personal fulfillment and financial enrichment of Daniel Jones.

Personnel will be evaluated accordingly. If Daniel is happy, rich, and not completely embarrassing himself, people will keep their jobs.
