looked more like a funeral parlor than a draft room?
No smiles, no energy, nothing.
If it’s true that Mara put the stop on the trade up, Schoen (and Daboll) aren’t long for this organization.
The war room is always somewhat quiet when the owner/GM/coach are on the phone. I think it is a bit unfair to make an observation in a moment in time and try to draw a conclusion from it.
Yes, there was interest in the QB's, but the majority of the reports said that the team absolutely loved Nabers.
But Mara doesn't want to allow them the ability to say we need more years as we have a new QB. That and Giants look clueless giving DJ that contract and the. Drafting a QB in round 1 the following year. I think this draft had some politics involved.

Or maybe they didn't want JJ and got they guy they were looking to draft all along
There were 3 QBs available at six that other teams rated as top-prospects, including KOC and Sea Peyton. As far I know, Mara wouldn’t have stopped them from drafting any of those players.
Jones is Schoen and Daboll’s guy, just like he was Judge, Shurmer, Gettleman, and Garrett’s guy.
room celebrations/giddiness always seems forced for the cameras to me.
The Bears celebrating? they have known for the better part of 4 months they were picking him and no one could stop them. It's like celebrating new year's eve.
Then good for Mara. Maye could just as easily be Trubisky as he could be Herbert. And thank God nobody in that room bought the JJM hoax. Viking fans are literally in mourning today for trading up for him.
But Mara doesn't want to allow them the ability to say we need more years as we have a new QB.
Or maybe Mara really wanted a QB but Schoen and Daboll convinced him that only Maye was worth it and NE was asking too much. After that they were walking on eggshells because they knew Mara was pissed they wouldn't be coming out of the first round with a new QB.
People will read something that fits a narrative they want to believe. I think they would have taken Drake Maye if the deal was reasonable. NE wanted a haul to move off the pick. This is why trades do not happen often.
is a talent they really really liked. They seemed happy and makes sense given the discussion openly about the combine interview the group had being really lovey dovey. If they wanted McCarthy they would have taken him.

is some other teams seemed very contrived in their excitement. As in, they had someone say cameras are on, everyone quick, bro-hug each other and cheer!
Just bc the Giants didn't do that, doesn't mean they were down

but I expected them to be more measured in the post-pick press conference. Schoen seemed pretty giddy to me.
Yes, I noticed this and I think it was 100% real excitement.
I don't think the Giants had "6 guys". I think Nabors was the last of the guys they wanted at 6. And, that's why they were so happy in the press conference.
Let me get this right, NYG looked at and interviewed 6 QBs extensively and thoroughly, reports everywhere said they did in fact try to trade up but were denied by teams that wanted more, so took the highest rated player who also fills a need and one that many felt was even higher ranked than Harrison...
BUT MARA was the one who said no to any QB and he's going to fire the GM and HC if they don't win this season. So he forced the re-sign of DJ and now insists they keep DJ and don't push him with a younger QB. The same owner who openly said he would not hinder or block any QB trade up. He's openly lying. Never mind the mountains of real testimony from former EXECS, coaches and employees who have insisted NYG ownership doesn't meddle that much if at all.
So all the QB tryouts and interviews were dog and pony shows and Mara is calling all the shots and then firing everyone when it fails.
and don't forget, one of the hottest GM and HC candidates back in 2022 came here under the guise that they would have nearly full or complete autonomy to run this ship but NOPE! They were tricked. Fooled by the big bad wolf. It's all a conspiracy. Former NYG staff are lying. Current staff are lying. Mara. Some asshat is telling the truth or that report from "sources" --THAT is the real truth.

Exactly. They don't get who they wanted and assume the GM just thinks like them and it's Mara fault lol.
I am also quite sure that they are exhausted.

Pretty damn good, Banks had a great year.
Wtf are you insinuating?

He's probably referring to the fact that the most excited person in the room forced his way off the team at year end.

Get out of here with your reason and realism.

Banks had a good year! Oh great! Too bad the Giants still sucked.
This TEAM is awful. That’s what he’s getting at.

This is fucking stupid.
