Line of the year from @TomPelissero on @gmfb when talking about Atlanta drafting Michael Penix while just signing Kirk Cousins: "This isn't a relationship that's gone south. This is cheating on your wife on the honeymoon."
It isnt perfect because Penix is going to sit this year, maybe 2 and he will turn 24 before the season. So he may be 26 before he takes meaningful snaps.

Yeah I don’t think it’s as awful as the mass reaction is making it out to be, but that’s a great line in the OP
"Georgia found a new way to fuck a Cousins tonight."
There's no way Fontenot sprung that move on Blank. In fact, there is reporting that the idea came from Blank.

also have to wonder how thrilled penix is being an older prospect to now likely be stuck behind cousins for at least a year. yeah russ beat out matt flynn, but cousins got paid on a whole other level.
it would be messy but w/ cousins coming off the injury they should let penix compete, though i dont think he will beat out cousins and i dont think they can say that publicly.
For security reasons, no way you can tell Cousins before you are on the clock. Not unless you have him under lock and key, and without his phone.
Pennix is 24 and will sit for 2+ years.
Makes no Sense.
It's an awful pick.
Green Bay surprised people, but Love was also 21 then and Green Bay took him down at pick 26.
Penix is 24 next week (Love is 25) and had a history of medical problems. If he wants like Love, he won't receive any meaningful snaps until he's 27 or 28.
Its just bad development.. They could have gone EDGE (Turner, Verse), CB, OL or WR (Thomas) and instead you have a "succession" plan for the guy you JUST signed...
You either take the BPA to fill a need and help the team now. Or just draft penix to play right now and use the cousins money elsewhere.
It’s not as big of a disaster people are making it, but it’s still not a smart allocation of resources.

who laughed at the Packers when they took Jordan Love and then spent last season telling everybody how smart the Packers were.

Green Bay had an aging proven QB and was coming off a 13 win season, Atlanta has holes and hasn't been to the playoffs in 7 years..

not having had the discussion with cousins ahead of time seems moronic after giving him the deal they did.

how about just lie to him and tell him you may take a young guy to groom at some point in the draft? nobody would have thought twice about that, him included, he's 36.

the video of Blank talking to the GM afterwards? Wow did that seem like an uncomfortable conversation.

Just because there's an article on the internet about it doesn't mean its true
This is Exhibit A I just laugh at so many people here trying to parse the words of sources and asshats. One team will throw a curveball and the entire first round looks different because of it.

Rodgers had three seasons in a row from 2017 to 2019 where he wasn't playing top QB ball. They had a losing season in 2018, and yes they went 13-3 in 2019, but it wasn't a one man show or anything.
Picking at 26 for a young project like Love is completely different than a top 10 pick on a soon to be 24 year old with a long medical sheet.
You are right, they have holes on roster. Draft Dallas Turner or Jared Verse. Draft one of the lineman to protect your newly signed QB. It's wild .

It's an article on the internet containing a report by Ian Rapoport, a very legit reporter, in advance of the pick.
Versus what? Two people talking with no audio and hot take internet headlines claiming the interaction looks awkward. And taking off from there.
There are people who will insist as fact that Gettleman was against the Toney pick because they thought he looked grumpy in the Giants' draft room when the pick was announced.
They took Jordan Love at the back of the first round and Rodgers was coming off a down season with a contract that did not have much time left. Atlanta used a top 8 pick after they gave a FA an expensive 3 year contract that is not easily cuttable at any point.
Going QB at #8 with Odunze available was really dumb
Picking a banged 24 year old was monumentally stupid.
Falcons with a Jets type move.

Apparently they told Cousins they were looking to take a QB, but one later in the draft. I looked at ATL as being a favorite in a bad NFCS, but things could get ugly if they struggle out of the gate.
Falcons are no stranger to large QB cap hits, they just went through this a year ago. Maybe they were dumb in giving Cousins a huge deal to begin with, but having a rookie who can come in if need be is smart.
Jordan Love is what 25 years old first year as a starter? It's not a big deal for Penix to sit a year or two if Cousins flames out. They can easily manage a cap hit as well if it comes to that. I think it's a forward thinking move by the Faclons; soild back-up plan for Cousins.
