The rumors of trading up for Maye, but passing on Penix, JJM, and Nix tells me that their pursuit of a QB was more about opportunism given the 6 position than desperation to replace Jones.
When it comes to the QB position, I'm a big believer in being opportunistic regardless of the current starter and I applaud Atlanta for drafting Penix despite having Cousins on a brand new, big money deal. The difference between the Giants and Falcons may have come down to their evaluation of Penix or maybe it was simply that Atlanta didn't have Nabers as such an attractive alternative (and didn't have nearly the same need at the WR position as had the Giants).

If they didn’t want to replace Jones, why would they offer the moon to NE to move up? They wanted to replace Jones, but none of the QB’s left moved the needle for them. That says more about how the FO felt about the remaining QB’s than it says about how they feel about Jones. If they thought he was all that, they wouldn’t have mortgaged 4 high picks to replace him.

Maybe I’m misreading Milton’s post, but I don’t think targeting Maye was about opportunity. In fact, giving up that many picks bordered on desperation. It would have been a tough pill to swallow, but I would have supported it.
If the Vikings had traded in front of the Giants to get JJM, I'm sure there would be somebody in the media or on BBI saying the Giants were actively trying to trade up for JJM, but couldn't match what Minnesota offered.
So this idea that they offered the moon for Maye because they were desperate, but turned up their nose at Penix, JJM, and Nix because they didn't like them at all simply doesn't ring true.
