I mentioned this a few weeks ago, but it will likely happen today.
You saw Goodell use the 1st round announcements to push a game in Brazil, and later to discuss the International Player Program-including having the Eagles Jordan Mailata making a draft announcement in Austrailia.
Well today Goodell will have Bayron Matos of the Dominican Republic in the green room during today's selections.
Matos has recently performed tryouts for at least 7 NFL teams (yes, including the Giants). He currently measures at 6-7, 313 pounds with 35¼-inch arms and has been training to be an OT and has apparently run in the 4.9s.
Matos actually spent some time a few years ago playing college basketball (limited game action) at South Florida.
For the Giants, it may be an advantage not having a 7th rounder, because I feel pretty certain that the NFL will pressure some team, at the very end of the draft, to use a draft pick on this International Player.
I greatly admire every athlete for making that daily dedication to their goal.
The NFL only allows a limited number of 257 slots for those players dreams to come true.
Sadly Goodell has no issue taking one of those precious slots and using it for his marketing side show.
