Take it for what it is. We all know it is what they can do on the field that really counts. I believe Letter grades were given by 7 so called experts. This article also includes UDFA acquisitions made. Ratings by 7 “experts” - ( New Window )
That Burns was acquired with our second round pick…we would have drafted first round value with it.
Excellent point….even I had forgotten to include him. You are right, technically he should be included. So by adding him, I believe everyone’s grade would go up at least one letter. All As!
Slotting him in as a second round pick replacement doesn't quite work. He was paid... A lot. And that has to factor into the evaluation. Still could be worth it.

This. Part of grading the draft is that these are young, cheap players. Adding in a guy who you essentially gave up a pick to re-sign as a free agent should not be part of the grade. They are being graded on who they drafted with the picks they had.
Vinnie Iyer from the Sporting News says we reached on 3 of our picks.
Does anyone believe he actually knew who any of these guys were before they were picked?
This is all opinion. Why would he have to be uninformed to hold a different opinion? Clearly he didn’t like those players as much as Schoen did. There are several reviews this morning suggesting some of those picks were reaches. It doesn’t mean they are right, but they are also not clearly wrong. They are opinions.

I don’t know what 3 he is talking about, but I guess he needed to say something “controversial” to be heard. I followed many draft sites on each pick and I don’t recall reading one time the word “reach” on any of these 6 picks. I guess there is always a first time.

In that narrow view, I agree, but to me that is less important that viewing the entire off-season.
In 2005, the year after the Giants traded up for Eli, they had no 1st obviously and no 5th - both included in the trade. Despite that, they nailed the draft with what they had and got Webster, Tuck and Jacobs, partly because they had no 1st round pick (and were in good cap shape) they were able to add Plaxico, Pierce and McKenzie.
So, I agree, if you want just draft, it's just draft, but that is less interesting and meaningful than more holistic off-season review.
I agree. The ratings people are getting worked up about are draft grades, not offseason grades. There is no depth to them and depend largely on the authors own ratings - or consensus rating - which is very subjective.
Which is why I don’t get people arguing for or against draft ratings the day after the draft. Completely worthless.
that this #4 pick was a reach, #5 was one of the great steals of the draft, and #6 was a developmental project. By cut-down day only one or two will make the roster and they are likely to be special teamers.
According to Sporting News, 65 percent of the players who made the Pro Bowl between 2005 and 2020 were 1st and 2nd round. Only 23 percent of draftees taken 4th round and later and undrafted free agents, and a few of them are just special teams players.
Doing the math, take away 3 percent of 23 percent to cover undrafted free agents, and each of the last four draftees has a five percent chance of making the Pro Bowl. That's means that one in twenty of your sixth round picks will make the Pro Bowl in any given year.
Extended over the four last draft picks, then once every five years one of your 3rd day draft picks will make Pro Bowl.
Your grade,B-, is the lowest I’ve seen, and that includes the 7 in the link. So what picks disappointed you? And why so?
The Sporting News and Washington Post both gave the Giants a B-. Sports Illustrated a C+. B- is consistent with many from the main stream publications.

He clearly doesn’t like Phillips, but most other analysts have praised the pick, we’ll see who is right.
