Observations on Giants first 3 picks

ryanmkeane : 4/28/2024 6:58 pm
Malik Nabers, Tyler Nubin, Dru Phillips - listening to all three of these guys at their pressers and interviews, seems to me that Schoen and Daboll have really doubled down on the competitiveness and “fiery” type guys.

Nubin and Phillips both spoke about their willingness to tackle and get dirty and that it means something to them. Talked about leadership and putting in the work. Nubin played through a torn MCL.

Nabers said he believes it’s his competitiveness and dog like mentality and will to beat his man and almost embarrass his guy that sets him apart from other players. Nabers played through a shoulder injury cause he wanted to be out there.

Bottom line is it appears the regime has valued toughness and competitiveness perhaps over need type picks along the OL or QB.
100%.

All dogs.

Also, when asked to describe his game, the first thing Theo Johnson said was “gritty.”
We need some of that Shockey fire!
RELICDOA : 4/28/2024 7:14 pm : link
& LT’s relentlessness!
I hope you’re right.

We need a lot more of that on both sides of the ball.
Nabers is going

Can’t wait to purchase a jersey with his name and # on it.
Noticed it too. No passive personalities with these

I hope you get the correct spelling.
I want a tough physical team that bullies the opponent
D HOS : 4/28/2024 7:22 pm : link
A team that the opponents circle on their calendar and order extra icy hot and wraps because they are gonna get beat up. So that works for me. Bring it.
A guy like Nabers can infect the Giants
Rudy5757 : 4/28/2024 7:24 pm : link
In a positive way. We needed more dog. Our players are too nice

Nabers is going to want the ball all the time.
Why do so many posters on bbi have trouble spelling Nabers last name

and intangibles.

Still.

I hope we found guys who can play and actually be great on the field for a change. I'll worry about the feel-good stuff later.

I see Nayber…

As a bit of a hybrid between Plexico and Hicks. If he can channel 17 and 88’s propensity to step up against the philthy then I’m a happy guy.

This! ^^^ Exactly, you need to start with TALENT + tough, smart, dependable.

What good are the intangibles if you’re getting beat by the more talented player across the line from you.

Prioritizing intangibles over talent will keep us in the basement of the NFC East and eventually cost Schoen his job.

The OP is specifically...

...commenting on intangibles.

Of course the players need to be talented...

Actually...

...if you are on the field with these guys, dog-mentality is a tangible trait.

Glad someone mentioned Nicks.
mittenedman : 4/29/2024 8:11 am : link
The Tyreek Hill comparison that has stuck with this guy is one of the worst of all time.

He is nothing like Hill, but he’s a lot like Nicks, which I’d happily sign up for at #6.

on the little I've seen (the phone calls, the post-draft interaction with the media, the press conferences at the facility, and the Combine interactions with the media, the Giants.com one-on-one interviews), I really like the personalities of Nubin, Phillips, Tracey, and Muasau. And if you saw the video on Johnson that I posted, you saw that story.
The one common trait they all have
Shecky : 4/29/2024 8:24 am : link
is they LOVE football

Other than injuries, that is the number one trait that seperates the guys who bust/underperform and the guys who outperform.

Reese tried that too many, many ears ago. A bunch of guys who live and breath the game, and leaders. problem was, none of them were anywhere near the athletes we picked up this weekend.
I've noticed this
Biteymax22 : 4/29/2024 8:40 am : link
Not that we didn't have some high character guys, but we drafted more guys with an "edge" than we have in past drafts.
Dane regarding Phillips
