They were just discussing the Giants draft and one of the guys said, "Darius Muasau, by the way, linebacker from UCLA, one of the guys the coaches loved down at the East-West Shrine Game."
Sometimes it’s the picks that kind of get overlooked initially that end up being terrific players (eg. Bradshaw, Armstead)
Bradshaw and Armstead were picked where they were because of issues not related to their talent.
Armstead (8th) had torn his ACL. Without that he wouldn't have been a Giant.
Bradshaw (7th) had two arrests while in college and had to serve jail time after signing with the Giants because those arrests violated his probation from another arrest while a juvenile. He had to serve 28 days in June and July 2008, and another 30 days after the season.

Correct. Bradshaw is so often, so incorrectly, used as an example of the team's scouting acumen of a very late round pick. He was projected as a 2nd/3rd before his 'lapse of judgment' and walking out with his dorm mate's boom box. That said, he was a great pick, loved his career.
I'm guessing he's more like Chase Blackburn 2.0.
p.s.--What I found unique about Muasau is that we hear a lot from prospects who are pissed at being selected later than they expected (or felt they deserved), whereas Muasau seemed pleasantly surprised to be drafted as early as he was. I think he was emotionally prepared to go undrafted.
"Muasau was all over the field during the West team's practice Monday, just as he was at Hawai'i and UCLA. He's a leader in the middle, calling out plays and moving linemen so he could attack a gap in the run game. His drops into coverage were of good depth, and he quickly smothered running backs over the middle and heading to the flat. Muasau always managed to get a slight bump on his target to show he would take care of business during the game. He drew a flag in a one-on-one rep for being a bit too physical, but NFL teams will live with that aggression."
The best linebacker at the Shrine Bowl, Muasau (more than 50 combined starts between UCLA and Hawaii) led a stingy Bruins defense with 38 run stops last season. He showed great burst and fluidity in coverage this week and was the most physical in the group via run fits. He ran alongside Penn State linebacker Curtis Jacobs — a very fast defender — in most individual drills.
Muasau also was the loudest linebacker on the field and seemed to be the most in control setting defenses during team periods. He could be bigger, but he’s a quality high-floor linebacker prospect.
Darius Muasau lays the BOOM on thunderous TFL in backfield
Frankie Luvu. Going to the Commanders next year. People underestimate physical courage when it comes to playing football the right way. Samoans have it in spades. Not saying Muasau is Luvu, but he has the same characteristics. Ran a 4.84 - ( New Window )
This group was a joke for years. The roster has problems but this looks solid and with McFadden in the 5th and a decent contracts for Okereke and Simmons they didn't overpay to do it. Maybe Muasau needs a year but seems like a solid value behind Simmons day 3.

#Giants just got one of the best box linebackers in #UCLA’s Darius Muasau
425 tackles/40 TFL in career, including 10.5 TFLs and 4.0 sacks in 2024
Riser during @ShrineBowl week. Favorite of area scouts/coaches
Could challenge for a starting spot in time 👀

Yes. If you are ever curious to see who is still on the roster, check out our roster page, scouting report section, or depth chart.
Yeah coming off torn ACL, was likely a starter before he got hurt. Should be fully ready to go
