Enjoy tonight's game 😊
tampa did some good hitting there. jumped on him early and palacios had a good 1 handed 2 strike double. he's hitting .300 for a reason.
clutch timing TTH. great game to be at.
I think they will stop at 7 unless he has another very fast inning because right now he would likely be in low 90’s after next inning and your “top” bullpen arms are rested.
79 pitches after 6. I'd turn it over to the bullpen. Let it out on a high note.
Incredibly impressive debut. We have a good one.
6.2 IP
5 H
1 R
1 ER
1 BB
6 K
0 HR
1.35 ERA
5 groundouts, 4 flyouts
25 batters faced
1 DP
4 LOB
2 runners left in scoring position with 2 outs
1 SB allowed
Very rare debut. I've seen some talented pitchers before, but very rare to see that combination of stuff plus control and poise in a young pitcher. Reminds me of deGroms debut. He went 7 innings 1 run 6 Ks. 2 walks and 4 hits. Very similar numbers.
deGrom was more a curiosity at the time (at least for me). He had 7 good starts in the minors that year, but the year before he had a 4.51 ERA with 168 hits and 120 Ks in 147.2 innings. But Scott is the best homegrown pitcher since JDG. So exciting to see. He better be here to stay
It's not similar to deGrom who has textbook mechanics.
that was unreal. bp has been great but in tight situations give up too many walks. not a huge surprise given most of their track records.
Otto could have given up 7 runs that inning and I'd still have a beaming smile on my face. We have what looks like a home grown, cost-controlled top of the rotation starter.

Hope Stearns has a plan.

Well, I have the ability to separate the two. Super thrilled that Scott had a great debut. Let’s see how he responds in his next start. Calling him a top of the rotation starter after one game against a struggling team is a bit premature, but it’s the type of debut you hope for.
The rest of the team needs to get their heads out of their asses. And I’m almost at the point where I’d be totally fine letting Pete go.
after today he's down to 743.
lindor has started heating up, jdm has hit ok behind him, though he hasn't hit for much power yet.
alvarez went out 4/19. mcneil and marte havent been good since then either.
presumably these guys will get it going at some point and you would think the injury luck will improve, but if not i do think things will start getting frustrating because BPs can only stay near-perfect for so long.
i think not letting vientos have zack short's spot to open the season is already proving to have been a mistake though. jdm replicating his performance last year was a worthy gamble but never assured, especially once his back flared up. i havent seen anything to worrying from him yet but it sure would have been nice to have another break out guy like baty has from day 1.
McNeil’s time is running out. Alonso is losing dollars by the day the way he’s hitting. Too many black holes in this lineup.

McNeil turned me off a lot yesterday, particularly in the field on two throws to 2B from Nido that he allowed to get to the OF. I wish Acuna was performing better though in the minors.

and composure especially in the 1st inning. Tired of these Mets hitters though…

I missed one of the throws. The one I did see thought it wasn’t a great throw by Nido. But nevertheless, McNeil has not looked like anything like a batting champ last year and this year so far. If he’s not getting base hits and lengthening this lineup, then let’s see Acuna who’s out. Unfortunately, that most likely won’t happen this year.
Syracuse Mets with at least 50 PA's with a lower wRC+
= Yolmer Sanchez
Syracuse Mets with a lower BB%
= None
Syracuse Mets with a lower OBP
= None
Syracuse Mets with a lower slug
= Yolmer Sanchez
It's only May but Acuna has been painfully bad so far, he's not an option. Next up would be somebody like Jose Iglesias or Rylan Bannon.
He's also been playing mostly SS, only a handful of games at 2B. He's a good fielder. And he's fast, like 'hit the light switch and be under the covers before dark' fast. If he gets on base....he's going.
Maybe April in Syracuse just doesn't suit him. Hope he turns it around in May.
Unfortunate because with Mauricio out and Acuna’s poor play… McNeil is gonna stay in the lineup I suspect.
he has actually hit for power comparable to what he did in tex (iso was 138 tex, is 120 now). k-rate also similar (20% now, 19% then). so the 2 missing ingredients are singles and walks.
his numbers are his numbers and 125 plate appearances into the season isnt nothing but the majority of players are 1 hot streak away from numbers that look good. if he went 5 for 5 today he'd be hitting 30 points higher tomorrow. if he goes 9 for 12 in 1 series he is hitting .264. baseball is streaky, we see it with lindor and alonso and they have been as productive as anyone the last couple years.
the guys who have good seasons start to finish (any experience level/league) usually have some good fortune in there.
jett is going through the same thing btw, his babip is .205 right now and thats probably a big reason he's hitting .179. he walks so much his numbers are buoyed but last year his babip was above .322 at every level he played. that is a lot of balls not falling in (some for good reason, a lot likely just bad luck).
SNY @SNYtv Kodai Senga 'felt great' after latest live BP, rehab assignment could be the next step - ( New Window )
Senga, Severino, Quintana, Manaea presumably are locked in once Senga returns. Butto has earned an extended look, Scott looked great does Peterson move to the BP? Manaea is their only SP with bullpen experience and that seems unlikely at this juncture. That's not even getting into Megill who is pretty close.
