I'm curious to see what everyone here has to say about some of our resources for all things NYG. Hopefully opening up a discussion on where everyone lands with these various channels of info. Who to pay the most attention to, and who has reached the realm of disregard.
Giants Payroll:
John Schmeelk - giants.com reporter, on payroll, sometimes has good insight, but also has a undeniable optimistic outlook with most things related to NYG.
Pat Hanlon - VP of communications for NY Giants - I feel we don't hear much from him these days. I rarely see a lot out of him compared to the Pre-Schoen Daboll years. He's been on staff since 1993.
Gray Area:
Bob Papa
Schmeelk-lite. Paid by the giants for calling gameday, and probably more. Willing to call out things with a fan POV, but not a reliable prognosticator with regard to x's and o's.
Carl Banks
Papa, but x/o insight and a definite fan of every player in spite of his ability to call out specific guys from the perspective of a former Giant. He has the latitude and credibility to be harsh in a way that most wouldn't, and Bob can't.
Giants focused reporters:
In order of my preference:
Dan Duggan The Athletic
Art Stapleton North Jersey USA Today
Jordan Ranaan ESPN
Paul Schwartz NY Post
Pat Leonard NY Daily News
Patricia Traina Misc outlets, Sports Illustrated?
Michael Lombardi ...just kidding
What are your thoughts? Who did I miss? I almost included Talkin Giants (jomboy) as i think they do a really nice job from the social media platform. Insightful and less emotional than the rest of that landscape. In the end social media reporters are really about the 'voice' and spin that is most preferred. TG is great because they don't interject as much big picture opinion.
I feel Nick & Dan are unbiased in their reporting. Nick does some really nice film study.
Dottino as a shill
Agree with including Big Blue Banter (and probably Talkin Giants, for that matter)
Would also add two nationals that still have a way inside:
Mike Garafalo
Jay Glazer
Talkin giants is awful too. Skinner is ok with oline review stuff. Pennick is the worst.
Pat leonards twice weekly youtube lives are surprisingly good. He is a weasel during the pressers, but his YouTube content is great.
Not just with Giants news BTW with every piece of info received through media
Falato's tape breakdowns are great.
Papa and Banks obviously are what they are - but I like them, and I do think Banks says what he actually thinks rather than being a team mouthpiece.
The rest just circle jerk around - one reports something (which rarely has any real basis), and the rest pass it along with their spin. And they pull quotes from Schoen/Daboll interviews or some other supposed sources, and interpret them to support some (usually erroneous) thing they've previously tossed out there.
Her interview of the Raiders' beat reporter Hondo Carpenter was the most insightful information I've seen on Carmen Bricillo.
Dan gets some things wrong though.

He's quite hard on the Giants but he is plain spoken and has a very good grasp of the cap. He worked for an arena league team at some point and he has some experience with cap matters and I think worked on tech for the NFL.

I don’t mind Dottino as a homer. I think he is entertaining and I like his enthusiasm.
