Eagle and Cowboy potential weaknesses

Reale01 : 6/26/2024 1:49 pm
The other thread got me thinking...

Dallas
They draft well and have a good roster with a lot of "star power". However...

They have three huge contracts coming up.
They lost a very good DC in Quinn.
McCarthy is not a great coach. I am not sure he can rally the team if adversity hits. A decent front-runner.
OL has three new starters.

Philly
They trade well and accumulate assets. Their drafting is only OK but they get so many swings it doesn't matter if they miss a few. The result is a solid roster with few weaknesses and some "star power". A GREAT OL coach.

They have serious long-term cap issues.
Siriani is a bad coach. imo- worse than McCarthy
He does not deal well with adversity.
A horrible end to last season.
They have an aging roster.
Kelce and Cox retired.
Johnson (Hurt a lot) and Graham getting ready to retire.
Two new coordinators (although Fangio is good)

They are way better than the Giants until we beat them on the field. That said, these teams can be had. I am not sure if the Giants are ready yet. We did beat the Eagles last year as they were disintergrating.

Wake me up when we beat the Cowboys

You often have good thoughts so I am sorry you did not read my post close enough to understand that I was not talking about the impending demise of either team. Also, I said that I am not sure the Giants are good enough to beat either team.

What I did say was that I think that both Philly and Dallas do have some real issues. Some of which I think COULD make them vulnerable. Do you disagree? Do you think both are essentially bullet-proof? Or just bullet-proof vs the Giants?
What goes up will come down

Especially in the NFL. But (IMO) it's exceedingly unlikely that cycle hits the Cowboys or Eagles in '24.

That said, the Eagles had 2 7-9 seasons prior to their SB win. And, as good as they are, they were 35-35 and coming off a rock bottom 4-11-1 season before their current ascent.

It's only 3 seasons since the Cowboys went from 6-10 to 12-5.

While things change fast and the Giants could be pretty good this season, those 2 teams should still be better. They're pretty stacked. I could see the Cowboys descent starting in '25 for the reasons the OP mentions. But I think the Eagles have at least 2 more strong seasons.

Dallas should have a good defense again. They will be mentally tougher, have better discipline, have better knowledge of their assignments, less mistakes in general. They will probably have less takeaways, sacks, and splash plays. It maybe be a wash between the two styles.

In the four years McCarthy has been the coach the Dallas record is 42-25, a .627 winning percentage in the regular season. And that's with his starting QB going down in year one. He is just 1-3 in the playoffs, but that has been everyones bugaboo in Dallas.

Everyone also thought that Moore leaving and McCarthy taking over the offense would be a negative for Dallas, but Dallas led the league in points scored for the second year in a row. In his short tenure in Dallas McCarthy has shown that he is a competent coach.

Dallas only has two new starters on the OL, Guyton for Smith and Beebe for Biadasz. The OL will probably go through some growing pains early in the year but should improve with more reps as the year goes on.

I think Dallas still wins 10 games this year and will be locked in a divisional race with Philadelphia all year for the NFCE.
They have NFL QBs

Has really thinned out…

Combo of questionable drafts the last couple of years, plus losses in FA like Smith, Gilmore, Pollard, Fowler, Armstrong, Kearse, and Biadasz. They’ll still be tough because they have a good QB and star power (Parson, Lamb, Diggs, Bland, Lawrence, Martin, Ferguson) on both sides of the ball, but I see them taking a step back in 2023.

Past 2023, it will be interesting to see who they are able to pay…tough decisions looming

Regarding the Cowboys, what I would love
barens : 6/26/2024 11:33 pm : link
To see, is for the Cowboys 1st round pick Guyton to be a bust. They just keep seem to hit on offensive linemen, it’s time for a miss. Not having their hall of fame left tackle Tyrone Smith will make life more difficult for Dak and the offense.

The Eagles, we’ll see if their rookie secondary is able to either inject life into a struggling secondary, or make it more of a liability. Hoping for the ladder. And losing Kelce, I don’t know, we are still struggling to replace Shaun O Hara, so we’ll see how that goes.
If you're talking adversity,

and not being able to deal with it, Daboll is right up there, too.

He didn't have to deal with it at all in 2022, with the early winning. Only a total collapse would have left the Giants out of the playoffs.

Adversity arrived big time in 2023. Game, after game, after game, was poorly coached in preparation, player positioning and usage, along with basic fundamentals, leading to losses that could have been wins.

Apparently, homer biases leave some fans blind to the reality of their own team, while being able to see the same things in other teams.
These two teams
mpinmaine : 6/27/2024 9:25 am : link
have been beating us 90 percent of the time for years.
Because I do not wish to be depressed I will not look at the actual record over any time....but it aint good.
The Giants have to be able to win at least half of the games against these two.

Maybe we do this year, the Cowboys especially have our #.
as far as closing the gap

we heard that going into 1995,'
We had Wheatley, Hampton, and Hershel.
We opened that season giving Dallas and 70+ yard TD up the gut to E. Smith on the first play from their O.

35-0 final.....
50-0 first game last year...closin the gap..lord I hope so

Do not disagree with most of this. I do think McCarthy is a front-runner and I am not sure if he will be able to hold things together if they go through a bad patch. I certainly do not think Zimmer is an improvement over Quinn, but he was always been a solid D coach. IIRC His defenses took a step back in his last years in MN. Gun to my head I see 10+ wins for both Philly and Dallas in 2024. That said there are some chinks in the armor.

Homer Bias? I don't agree. The Giants were clearly pointed out as not being as good as the other two in this last part of the post:

"They are way better than the Giants until we beat them on the field. That said, these teams can be had. I am not sure if the Giants are ready yet. We did beat the Eagles last year as they were disintergrating."

Do you remember the offensive line in 1995? Really terrible then too.
