Y.A.Tittle

bigfish703 : 11/8/2012 10:03 pm
Am I right that Y.A. is the only NFL player, whose jersey hangs in two different team's ballparks?

My wife & I flew to SF last month to see the Giants thoroughly drub the 49ers, but I was startled to see a Giants hero was also a 49er hero.

Does anyone know of a similar circumstance?
maybe

Sure if they have jerseys hanging but there is a lot of players that I'm sure are considered heroes with 2 organizations. Those just came off the tope of my head

Most famous would be Wilt Chamberlain

Champion with the 76'ers and Lakers. Others might be: Bo Jackson (Raiders and KC Royals); Fran Tarkington (Giants/Vikings); Fred Dryer (Giants/Rams) and Kurt Warner (Rams/Cardinals).
Most famous.. Fred Dryer???

Also, it's Tarkenton, not Tarkington.
Opps, sorry for the typo
JohnF : 11/9/2012 12:04 am : link
Yeah, you could consider Fred famous; not only for his football accomplishments (over 100 sacks, only player in NFL History accredited with two safeties), but also for his after football career (most notably for staring in TV...Hunter, Land's End). He was very popular in the 80's.
I sure was mad when the Giants traded Dryer

5 SB's, 2 with SF, 3 with Dallas.

I think he's in the Dallas ring of fame or whatever they call it and should be in the SF version too.
I had no idea all these guys played in the NFL

hand before a kick off, I was on the field, prior to a game against the Eagles at Franklin Field.

What a pleasant person he was, taking time for a kid at a time like that.

a jersey "hanging" in two ballparks, but Tittle's jersey isn't retired by the 49ers.
I think he meant "Ring of Fame"
Jim in Fairfax : 11/9/2012 11:49 am : link
Or whatever a particular team calls it. Of course, not every team has one. The Giants didn't have one in Giants Stadium, it's a new thing with MetLife. They did have a team hall of fame honor though, which I imagine all teams have. This was just a list - there was no building or other physical manifestation prior to MetLife.

Y.A. Tittle's jersey
bigfish703 : 11/10/2012 2:46 am : link
literally hangs from the second tier of Candlestick Park, on the visitor’s side, right next to that of Jerry Rice. However my further research confirms that FWIW is right. Tittle’s number was not retired by the 49ers. Number 14 was however, retired by the NY Giants. I specifically asked about NFL players, although it was interesting to hear about all the other athletes, who are honored by more than one team. Thanks for the feedback.

was, imo, the best player in the NFL in 1961-63.
He was certainly the most exciting.
He carried the Giants to three championship games.
I worshiped Tittle as a kid. He will always be my
favorite NY Giant.
That famous Y.A. photo basically sums up how I felt
that day, and for the next 24 years until redeemed
by Super Bowl XX
Super Bowl XXI !
