Yeah, I noticed the thread disappeared. I just think the monitors don't like NFT threads on the football side ( I get it).
Anyway, I just enclosed a deep space sketch URL that has some drawings that used a 60mm scope to gather the information. When I first bought my scope (I have a 10 inch Dobsonian), I found the pictures very helpful to see what I could expect to see.
I think you said that you live on the eastern side of the Sierra. We were up there last summer, near Lone Pine (I think the campground was called The Lodge). Over the years, we've visited Yosemite, Sequoia, Kings Canyon. On this side we've been up to Tahoe twice in the last 4 months.
Next year, I hoping to go to Texas Star Party in Ft. Davis and then on to the Big Bend National Park area in Texas (the little town of Marathon). It's supposed to have the darkest sky in the "lower 48"
I'm out in New Jersey... I have to travel to upstate NY to get a good sky...
As far as DSO goes..... Saturn and Jupiter are my favs... double star cluster is another...
I have to get my hand held computer that came w the scope fixed..
The thing is great when it works... guided tours of the night sky are the best... hands free..
My neighbor has the next one up from mine... 7 or 10 inches...
It's huge! Sooo heavy. Last time I saw it, it was on a dolly... lol
I gotta upgrade and get into the photography end of it.. great hobby!
Do check out your local astronomy clubs (that are mentioned in the Stellafane link). There's no better way to learn from the "old hands" that have been at it for a long time.
Saturday night, I spent about an hour squeezing an old man's brain about telescope technology (he learned how to build his own scopes & grind his own mirrors at Stellafane).
The one he had at the Death Valley party was a home-made 25 inch (635mm) mirrored monster that required a 10 foot ladder to see through the focuser.
It hurts to even think about it's so deep. My brain can't handle it
Where is light source?
Seems easier to disprove
Corrado 'Junior' Soprano: No you didn't fuckin' know it! I just told you!
"What a revolting development this is" - So, if you can't explain something (doesn't fit your model) - just make it up.
That one and my thread on buying new tires both went poof this morning....
Your pics are awesome!

I have Stellarium on my mac mini - I love it. - it's free
On my ipad I have Star Chart, SkySafari (which is supposed to have a great telescope tracking command feature) and Luminos.
I've heard that Stellarium works very well on smart phones
For those on the East Coast - Parties (and everything else you wanted to know about astronomy and were afraid to ask) ..

Then there's the biggest astronomy show in the US ...
