According to Sam Amick the reason he believes the Knicks hype when it comes to durant is because his people and agent are telling people about the new york possibility...
Says he does not think being around the warriors that going for a 4th straight would work
guys arent going to join him on a whim that he signs there without prep work given they are going to finish in the cellar with not many positive angles to current roster outside of the pick.
and it is not taking bad shots, he has gotten wide open looks playing next to smith...
celtics when they got garnett and won the championship the next year
We’re really hanging on to the pipe dream that the prestige of NY will be enough of a draw.
It’s still a thing IMO...whoever finally leads the Knicks to another title will be a legend for all time.
The Pearl, Clyde, Willis, Bradley, DeBusschere are spoken of as gods, yet more than half of us now are too young to have seen them play live.
Hockey is a distant 4th in popularity, yet Messier probably hasn’t bought a drink in NY since the spring of 94.
It would be quite the about face for KD, after he went to Golden State to win rings the last time he went free agent.
I won’t believe it can happen until the ink is dry on a contract. But who knows?
cowherd show....
Garnett was not on his level
You're asking a guy who left a much better team than the Knicks in OKC,to come play in New York to help his legacy.
So, it's true that they haven't ever bagged a star, but they also haven't ever been set up like this. They have a good on court sales pitch. They can get two stars and then use the assets to bring in other players to fill out the rest of the roles.
The only way this ends poorly is if they use the cap room unwisely. Otherwise, the Knicks are in a better position to build a good team than they've been in a long time.
And Cook his long time buddy. He would be surrounded by his long time friends basically.
You'd potentially have
Kyrie
Jordan
Cook
Kleinman
All as part of the team in some capacity
Link - ( New Window )
kleinman is very close with mills, highly doubt he would do that to him
The smoke is pretty ridiculous at this point. Even if somehow Kyrie does not come as the 2nd max there are so many strong FAs in this class. With KD on board itd be hard to see one of them not wanting to come here.
Amd if we get a top 2 pick the chances of AD go up dramatically. Even though I still think we can make a strong offer with a top 4 pick (if a couple guys rise before the draft).

And he re-ups with the Warriors in July. All this smoke and in the end it’s all just one cock tease. That would suck.

What is KDs relationship with Fiz? Is it close or he just thinks highly of him by what hes heard?

I think it is from what he has heard
The Garden was packed when shitty Carmelo Anthony was there, it’s goong to be nuts if Durant comes.

plus he is not coming alone
If true, I hope he and his dad are TIGHT and he wants to make him REALLY happy.
Woj changed his stance and now says it is a real possibility..
sam amick says his agent is talking openly about new york...
durant moving his business to new york..
evwry analyst says it is the knicks
you really think kevin durant needs his agent to create a bidding war?
and it is not his agent saying multiple teams, it is 1 team
Also, Chris Vernon, one of the hosts of The Ringer NBA Podcast's, was at All Star weekend. He said on yesterday's podcast that everyone he spoke to in Charlotte has Kyrie leaving Boston this summer.

You’ve completely changed your tune on this, huh? I seem to remember you for most of the season speaking in a “matter of fact” tone on all of these threads that Durant was not coming to the Knicks. Regardless of all the smoke blowing right in our faces, you were still adamant that he wasn’t coming. Like you wanted to be the face of that proclamation.
I’m not saying it’s gonna happen, in fact if I were a betting man I’d say the Knicks screw this up and it doesn’t happen. But it’s good to see you hop on board! We need all the good juju we can get.

before the kp trade i thought there was zero chance because i did not think he would come to new york by himself...
After the KP trade i am a believer because now he can bring a costar...
never thought he would do it alonr made no sense to me..
That's a very positive way to describe our current situation. Now that we're closing in on 20 years of Jim Dolan,I can't believe much of that,if any of it.
guys arent going to join him on a whim that he signs there without prep work given they are going to finish in the cellar with not many positive angles to current roster outside of the pick.
If they have a top 3 pick, plus Knox, that's plenty enough of a positive angle for 2 max guys to go.
What other teams that are realistic choices (outside of the Warriors) will have the ability to sign 2 max free agents and possibly have a top 3 pick and getting a guy who could be a star?
The Nets? Sure they're having a nice season, but do you think players are looking at them and salivating at that roster? Russell is having a nice year, but he was basically given away for nothing not long ago.
The Knicks roster situation should be appealing to free agents who know they can team up with another max guy. I think there are at least 3 very good players coming out of this draft. I know the Knicks can pick lower than 3rd, but by the time July 1 rolls around free agents will know who the Knicks have.
You think a guy like Kyrie needs Durant to leak that New York is a possibility now so he has time to process and think about it? He'd have to be living in an alternate universe to not hear the chatter. So if Durant's people don't leak it Kyrie can't possibly think about the possibility himself?
Just a very strange take when the chatter has been out there for a while. June isnt going to come and Durant calls Kyrie and says lets go to New York together but Kyrie says man if you would have had your people leak it sooner I would definitely go with you but I didnt have time to prepare myself for it.
There has been chatter about Irving wanting the Knicks for a while, and there's been chatter about Durant possibly coming for a while. If Irving or any other guy needs to hear it from Durants people to potentially prepare for it then they have to be living on Mars.
I don't expect it to happen because nothing ever goes the Knicks way. If Durant were to leave the Warriors, I dont know why he would go anywhere besides New York. If the goal is to just win, then there's no argument to be made to go anywhere else other than GS. But if he wants something for his legacy, the Knicks are really the only choice. I dont see how anyone else would even be a consideration.
Option 1:
Starters:
PG - Kyrie
SG - Dotson
SF - Durant
PF - ZIon
C - Deandre
Bench
Smith Jr
Knox
Mitch Robinson
Frankie
Trier
Kadeem Allen
Kornet
Or
Option #2
Starters
PG - Kyrie
SG - Dotson - I think they can still squeeze him on roster
SF- KD
PF - Anthony Davis
C - Deandre Jordan
Bench
Mitch Robinson - I think they can still fit him in
In this scenario knicks are trading everyone else on the roster for A Davis and filling in roster with vet mins
I think the real question is if he would come by himself...

I think its option 2 in the sense that they want to trade for a 3rd star (utilizing the 125% rule to go over the cap).
AD being plan A by far followed by maybe a Beal, Derozen or Griffen as plan B,C,D.
I am not a fan of trading for AD if the Knicks happened to acquire KD and Kyrie. They will have better depth by keeping their 1st round pick this year, Knox,Frenchie, DSJ, Robinson, Trier and all the other pieces. I think they can offer Deandre Jordan the MLE and he might take that offer on a stacked team.
That looks better to me that a big three and a bunch of bench bums.
DAJ would have to be on the MLE. There is a chance he would take it.
I've warmed up a bit to Reddish I think his jumpshot is going to be very good in the NBA (with further maturation).
Obviously, Zion is the prize but one of Morant,Barrett or Reddish I believe will also be very good players.
Anyone other than Zion isnt really worth keeping relative to bringing in AD as the 3rd star (via trade) and the 125% rule.
I think you have it reversed.

you no longer have the space for 2 max contracts.

once they go below the cap they no longer have access to the MLE. They'd have to use the room exception - assuming they look to sign DJ once the cap space is used.
rich man's Kornet? Or a poor man's Kornet? I can't decide!

How much is the room exception?

DAJ has made a lot of coin. He may take that to play on a championship level team.

But they could also use the mid-level exception (almost $9 million per season) to sign Jordan this summer, so it’s certainly possible

Bondy has that wrong.
They bought out the other players that could help them win games and aren't part of their future. Think he is obviously a great guy for Robinson to try to defend / box out in practice too. But that might be a component.
I'm not saying the Kings specifically -- I don't even know their cap room. But if he's to leave the Warriors, I wonder if he'd be tempted to join a team with some current legitimate excitement and potential, as opposed to a team that has to make a lot of other shrewd moves (uncharacteristically shrewd, you could say) to compete.
Probably met a lot of people that help him with deal flow there and would expand that further in New York. Hell if he brought a championship to New York he could probably find his way into deals in which he provided no value.
