I had been highly critical of the Daniel Jones draft pick and it is clear from his preseason and his game today that Daniel Jones was worth the 6 pick in the draft
And furthermore, I was adamant that the Giants should have went QB last year (I had wanted Rosen) because I had believed that there were no QBs in this draft and that was our shot so I argued against taking Barkley.
No matter what happens in the careers of all from this point forward - I know - It is clear that the Giants made the right call last year at the 2 pick and this year at the 6 pick. I understand what the Giants saw in the players to make the picks.
The pre-season showed me a lot. Today showed me more. I don't think we know for sure how DJ will turn out now there'll start to be tape on him, y'know but he sure looks like the real deal. He may be the anti-Eli in one respect: Eli came in with super-high expectations and never did end up as the kind of week-in, week-out elite QB we hoped for. Jones came in with low expectations and looks to be exceeding them by a mile.
I started coming around to it even before the pre-season, but after the pre-season performance I was already sold that he was worth the pick.
After this? Now Im wondering what I was thinking when I though Kyler Murray was a far better prospect than him.
I guess the big thing is I didnt think either his throwing accuracy or power was nearly this good. Hes proven that he is very accurate with really nice touch. But the arm strength has really been a shock.
The across the field throw to Slayton 50 yards down the field after avoiding pressure? Holy shit that was a play, one only a guy with a big time arm can make.
Its still early to say if hell be a star but he looks good.
And that's a very good thing
Yes the talking heads (like Mike the Mouth) but the real scouts like Walther football were right on the mark with Jones
The true scouts knew what we knew. He would not have made it through the 1st round, probably not the top ten

So who would you pick now. Haskins or Jones

2) We do know that his accuracy is pretty damned good;
3) It seems pretty clear that his field vision is way better than some critics suggested;
4) We do know that his ability to pull down the ball and run is going to force opponents to changes their game plans;
5) We do know that the OL was getting beat by TB--Barkley couldn't get yardage, and Solder was getting beat like a drum;
6) We do know that he did all of this today with one experienced above-average wr, one quality receiving TE, and no runners to throw to after SB got injured; and
7) We know to a near certainty that he has nerves of steel, which is difficult to scout. As the TV commentators suggested, his pulse doesn't seem to increase AT ALL.
I'll take it.
Hopefully w this the D Gets some pride and Betcher shows us all hes part of the solution

There is no amount of tape study that will help defend some of those plays he made today
Thanks.

I'll take it, too!

Admitting they were wrong. I might be a tough go for CC to admit since, iirc, Daniel is still white. But maybe some of the others. Hoping the smug Golic and Wingo will eat it tomorrow morning.
and you?
Right lol

Ive never disparaged Jones. And after the first few seconds of disappointment that wed dint pick Josh Allen, Ive been positive on Jones. What you reference is that I support Eli in the face of yours and others unrelenting antipathy. I thought he still gave us the best chance to win the most games. I still do, but less so. Im plenty happy Jones did well. I would wage I cheered equally as hard as anyone else did today.

Hi BB56.
Hi BB56.
Murderer! Hey George..:)
But damn it feels good to be so wrong!!!!
That said, I don't follow prospects any more. That said kudos to mara and the getts. Big time .
But let's do that mainly D draft next spring though

Personally, I had no idea and did not like or dislike the pick because I did not know much about him.
My point at that time was IF the Giants truly believed that Jones was going to be the franchise QB for the next 10-15 years... then you take him at #6 and don't take the chance he will be gone the next time you pick.
It now is entirely possible that other teams also saw what the Giants did in Jones and maybe he would not have still been there later.
This screams I cant admit I was wrong. Just come with the same energy you have for yourself that you do others
I thought it was insane terrible pick
mea culpa

What specifically was I wrong about? Did I ever say anything bad about Jones? Did I ever say it was a terrible pick? Did I ever say I wasnt going to root for him? Nope. I said that Eli was the better QB in preseason according to all accounts and that if youre truly playing to win this season, then Eli should be the qB. I do not know if they are tanking or not, I still think that was the genesis of this, buit I was wrong about the outcome because, he did win it for them. And, I think it looks like he will win several more, probably as many, if no t more, than Eli would have won.
So, if thats the mea culpa you want, then there you go. Now you can go to the Sam darnold thread and admit you were wrong to fellate him.

So did I. Flipped out for 20 minutes there. And I feel like an idiot for feeling like that. Why? Because I based my judgement on all the draft publications by the "experts" who didnt have a lot of positive things to say. When I went to dig up some of his college games on my own , especially the game vs Notre Dame as a true freshman at South Bend, I felt a little better.Now I feel a LOT better!

+1(0000000000000000000000000000000)
is it still too soon to comment on this QB prospect who will be available in "the 3rd or 4th round" ?
Lots to like of course. But his pocket awareness absolutely needs to improve as does (obviously) ball security, The former should naturally improve but it was noticeably inferior to Elis.
What is highly, highly encouraging is his accuracy as well as his being unphazed by such a high profile role. Starting QB for the NYG, taking over for a 2 time SB MVP who is watching from the sidelines, for a team with middling tackle play, injuries at key positions, etc etc.
We all hope for the best, obviously. I so badly just want to see him lead the NYG to finally beating the Eagles again. That as much as anything will put the Giants on the right path.

If DJ keeps playing like this, bw will vanish from the board. Again.

Youre too far over edge with Eli that you dont think clearly. Even with words above you sound like you would start him next week...
Ummm you get on people that were wrong all the time. But, it shouldn't be. Everyone is wrong and right.. so move on..but its the nature of this forum

This place can be insufferable. I believed in the kid from the get-go because Shurmur, Kirwan, Gil Brandt and other analysts I HIGHLY RESPECT love the kid, but is this how its going to be from game to game? I was right, I was wrong, its only one game..Sheesh.

This is how a lot of the next several weeks will go:
People who wanted a QB change: I was right
People who thought Eli still had it: Well you hated the pick when they drafted him so youre opinion is irrelevant

I am not, although I am sure you like pigeon-holing people as such. And I would not. Once the decision is made, it has to be irrevocable. To backtrack would be the very worst thing for everyone concerned.
