Beyond the physical aspect the kid really damaged his rep. You'd have to figure that as soon as the cost of protecting him is less than the risk of him being poached they'll do so.
Wilson can’t simply be claimed. A team that wants him has to sign him as a free agent. The Giants may already have an understanding with Wilson about an informal right to match offers.
One reason you don’t see more players “poached” from practice squads is that the player has to agree. A player like Wilson, who already pocketed a substantial bonus, can realistically say no.
Any team that would try to poach him would have to add him to their 53 man roster. In addition, the player would have to sign a contract with the other team. This is not like waivers where you claim a guy and he is automatically yours if nobody else higher claims.
this young man needs to prove he belongs in the NFL now, after all the incidents he created with poor judgement and immaturity. The fact Judge has said they're starting from scratch with him should tell you he's starting at the bottom. He's lucky the Giants took a chance on him.

Not to mention I think there is a gentleman's agreement throughout the league that sort of like not "poaching" waived/injured players, you do not "poach" PS players unless it is a player you legit want to keep for an extended period (not just a temporary injury replacement).
But in reality no one is going to grab him. He's a multiple time loser at this point and every other team had the chance to take the risk on him for their practice squads yet passed.
If he shows enough to be on an NFL roster it will be ours and likely not until next year.

This, I loved the acquisition but the Giants are paying Wilson the bare minimum contract for a practice squad player with no guaranteed money. They want this kid to earn it every minute of every day both on and off the field. I am not worried about him being poached because I think he knows this is his best chance at earning a real chance. He’s not stupid he must know that this is his final chance. He is also close to family which appears to be good for him.
will sign Wilson to their active roster without seeing how he's progressed. The few video clips we've seen of him hitting tackling dummies aren't going to be enough to bait anyone.
The guy is on a team that has given him a chance when no one
else would, has needs at his position, and is near his family support structure. If he now signs with someone else, you’d really have to question intelligence. He’s not going anywhere unless the Giants release him.
Who would want this kid who hasn't played in forever
there is always a risk they could "lose" him, but not much.
No worries, I would think the Practice Squad of a 3-6 team constructed by Dave Gettleman might be the last place anyone in the NFL would ever look for talent...
Eric mentioned this already, but the fanbase should focus on Ben Bredeson and Billy Price. The Giants traded valuable resources for both of these pedigreed players. It is much more important to the team that these two players bring their production level up to match the resources that were dealt for them.
RE: The attention Isiah Wilson gets is fascinating...

I can't lump those 2 together. I feel like it's very different circumstances. Bredeson has potential. He's a second year player who who was caught up in the numbers game on a good roster. Price was a high draft pick who has done nothing but floundered despite Cincys best efforts to give him opportunities at different spots on the line. He is depth at best.
It was desperation and unexpected retirements that led to both but their ceilings are very different IMO.
The Giants gave up a valuable asset to get him BJ Hill and embarrassingly threw in an extra late round pick as part of the deal. With Bredeson, I think it was a swap of losing a 4th and getting back a 5th. If that’s right, that’s not insignificant. Either way, I understand the Giants were needy because of injuries but the backups we had in camp were not NFL quality. I appreciate its hard to get good linemen but you have to have better then the crap we had backing up. Plus, if you’re going to give up assets for these guys, why wait until they have no training camp to be coached up!
All Star that nobody in the league wants. Ed Valentine just told Patty that when teams called about Engram that the Giants demand for him was a 1st round pick. So when the Giants nake fools of themselves over the value if their players and the fans buy into it then what does it say about the fanbase. Next we'll hear tge Giants extend Saquon for 5 years to the delight of the fanbase, one of the two picks that set the franchise vavk 5 years in this rebuild. Same fans that loved the Yankees adding Stanton and now would hever want to part with him. Over valuing the players we cheer for every week only adds to the wo's of the franchise. We haven't even seen him, yet the interest. Unreal.
I find that very hard to believe they were asking for a 1st. I get that fans are way overboard in dislike for Engram and he was somehow in the Pro Bowl but I don’t believe they asked for a 1st especially with free agency looming.

If only there was a formal selection process to acquire talented football player at the college level. Something annually, where you could find guys that play on the Offensive Line to help out the team...
You need real close, and personal info on the situation before you commit to bringing the possible ramifications of that sickness onto your regular roster. This is not some video fantasy.

Family in the area plus his buddy and former teammate AT. An organization that often repays your hard work and diligence with loyalty. The Giants give him a situation unique across the NFL.

Wilson is a project. Highly unlikely any other team signs him to their active roster.
