This is crazy to me, but not shocking. From all accounts, Belichick is very close to John Mara.
Bill Belichick still “has the keys” to the Giants organization.
That’s according to former Giants running back Derrick Ward, who called into Chris “Mad Dog” Russo’s program on SiriusXM on Thursday afternoon. Ward talked about Brian Flores’ explosive discrimination lawsuit against the NFL which alleged his interview for the New York Giants was a sham. |
“Bill Belichick, I’m pretty sure he still has the keys to Giants Stadium. To this day,” Ward said.
“I agree with you,” Russo said. “He has too much [power]. They love him too much. You’re right about that. It’s ridiculous.” |
“He has a ton of power with the Giants,” Ward said. “He was dating somebody in the office when I was playing there. He still has a lot of pull in New York, which is pretty crazy to me.”
Belichick worked for the Giants from 1979-1990, winning two Super Bowls as a defensive coordinator under Bill Parcells. His recommendation led to the Giants hiring Joe Judge as their previous head coach. |

In all my conversations with this person I have never once heard BB's name mentioned.
Because it's idiotic to have a player who was a back up and was only here for 2 years to have any realistic valid observation about any relationship between owners and anyone else
Giants Stadium, huh? That's nice. Is he displaying them on the fireplace mantle next to the clock in the living room?
There haven't been any doors for those keys to open for well over a decade.
The Giants are run by idiots that you wouldn't trust to run a sandwich shop.
The Giants are run by idiots that you wouldn't trust to run a sandwich shop.
Why what would be a problem?
1.) That Ward thinks Belichick has that much influence in East Rutherford
2.) That anyone would believe a back up player that has been out of NYG for about a decade
3.) That Belichick has sent HC and coordinators to about 1/3 of the NFL
4.) That you say you are a Giants fan and continue to criticize even though you got your GM and HC

Not trying to be funny but I really notice around here people only believe the former giants who say what they like. Why is that? Is it so hard to not like something but it still be true? If Eli said the same thing would anybody argue?

He actually played 5 seasons here. Not that it matters-lots of insane off the field stuff with him. Not the best source of info obviously but he was here for a while.
Exactly
Bad enough to gossip but at least get it correct. These are actually the facts.
Belichick married Debby Clarke in 1977, but they divorced in the summer of 2006. The couple have three children. They allegedly separated before the 2004 season. Belichick was accused of maintaining a relationship around that time with former Giants receptionist Sharon Shenocca, which helped precipitate her divorce.
Since 2007, Belichick has been in a relationship with Linda Holliday, who is the Executive Director of the Bill Belichick Foundation.
Not sure how any of the above connects to what Derrick Ward is trying to say here, but nevertheless.
The Giants are run by idiots that you wouldn't trust to run a sandwich shop.
I'm not saying it wouldn't be a problem. I'm saying it isn't true.
Is that really a question that needs to be dignified with an answer?
She is one of the those over 40 hotties, good for him.

I agree this could be a problem.
But I'm shooting the messenger here - Derrick Ward.
She is one of the those over 40 hotties, good for him.
10 years younger. She's 59, he's 69.
I mean, that's what Brian Flores has pivoted to: BB influenced the Giants into avoiding him. Why would he do that to a guy he probably helped to get the Dolphins job? I don't know.
It sounds like Ward is trying to support Flores' out-of-left-field contention with some superficial observations of his own from over a decade ago.
yeah, this is where I get off the wagon train too

We already know Belichick has tremendous influence here. We know it. That how Judge got hired in the first place.
We don't know anything. We are not privy to what happened with Judge. Did Belichick call Mara? Did Mara call for a reference/opinion? Did neither happen?
We know the Giants were in Foxboro that offeason, allegedly to interview McDaniels and Patricia.

They came away from that meeting with the conclusion to hire Judge.
Someone would have to show me written proof that the Giants had Joe Judge, career special teams coach and general no-name on their list and Belichick had no influence on that. Mara absolutely consulted with someone he holds in high regard to identify a coaching prospect.
