and even then the $ is probably going to go towards the draft class.
they may have 2 or 3 signings left above the minimum but probably not many more than that.
OTC updated most of the contracts (except cutting logan ryan and RSJ) and they have the top 51 around 2m under the cap. this move is likely at the minimum and won't impact that.
but they are right around 60 contracts, with at least 25 of the remaining 30 probably coming from the draft.
How many crappy online men is this guy gonna sign? Could have gotten Bozeman for the amount he spent on 4 sh!t linemen.
Haha what a tool you are. Yup. All of the lineman Schoen has signed have been crappy. Ok bud. The Giants were never going to be big players in Free Agency this year, and most of the stopgaps Schoen has signed have been one to two year deals as he figure out how to unload DG’s horrid contracts. If you expect the Giants to field a winning squad this year, I got bad news for you. This is how you tear down the old rot before you can truly rebuild.

They dont need to sign the draft class until the end of July, so I would think they make some kind of cap move before then to have room to sign someone they want
A lot of what DG said aged very quickly quite poorly

i'd imagine they will make moves over the next month / draft. Bradberry trade is certainly leader in the clubhouse, but there are others they could make.
i just think until that move happens they will likely be in the veteran's minimum aisle. their priority moves were the ones they made and they probably won't know where to spend their remaining $ until after they see who they draft.
this is drawing so much reaction. Every year there’s a dozen signings like this: experienced player at or near vet minimum. You’re bringing 90 players into camp. Not all are expected to start, or even be around by the start of the regular season. Chill out.
Good chance we draft 2 olinemen in the first 4 rounds
So I am not too worried about someone who may be our 8 olineman at best
We need bodies
At least we don’t have to hear “ don’t sleep on PIO” from the ignoramous
at the stupidity of some posters on this site. You can't buy caviar on a PBJ budget. Gotta fix the budget first !!! Gonna take at least two years. Go find another team to root for.
Giants have signed another offensive lineman, Jamil Douglas. Well-traveled 30-year old guard/center was mostly a backup in his career. Spent most of last season on the Bills practice squad.

Strong Points: Gifted tool set with top tier strength numbers. Has a long, lean frame. Able to bend at the knees and sustain good balance and body control. Plays a violent game with his upper body. Goes after the defender, consistently initiating contact and delivering a strong punch. Can keep his feet moving to mirror defenders. Able to stick to his man up and down the pocket. Can crash down and reach the inside gaps in a blink. Shows good quickness while maintaining his balance. Hustles downfield and will look to make the extra block. Easy mover in space, very good speed and change of direction. Can pull out of his stance and accelerate to lead block. Powerful presence on the move. Works hard to sustain and finish his blocks.
Weak Points: Will get sloppy with technique the further from the line he gets. Spends too much time with his chest facing the ground. Needs to be more consistent with posture and body positioning. Late to react to blitzes and stunts, needs to be more aware. Will often rely too much on his upper body, leaving him prone to the double move and penalties.
Summary: Fifth year senior. Spent two years playing guard, but moved to left tackle in 2014. Most likely a guard in the NFL. Douglas is one of the more impressive linemen in the nation when it comes to workouts and tools. He has great length but is a monster in the weight room and has elite level speed for the position. He has shown steady improvement from a skill set perspective and is beginning to prove that he has everything a coach could want out of a guard in the NFL. If he can clean up specific technique issues, he can be a long term starter.
*Douglas is a better athlete than what he showed at the combine. I actually think he is one of the top athletes among all OL prospects. I love the position versatility he presents. He has both the skills and tools to be a guy that backs up guards and tackles early in his career but I think his talent will eventually shine bright enough to get him a starting nod somewhere. Quality player that plays hard and has the aggression NYG needs in there.
great job sy - not many day 3 picks stick in the league 5+ years
Considering they have no money to work with and they’re in desperate need of help on the OL. Daboll and Schoen must have seen a little something in him.
almost always turn to players they know. Sometimes it is for what they bring as a player and other times there are additional considerations like knowing the system already or being a culture builder in the way the coach wants to head.
How many crappy online men is this guy gonna sign? Could have gotten Bozeman for the amount he spent on 4 sh!t linemen.
You do realize I hope that part of a functioning offense is having depth at positions
Shhhh you are going to hurt his brain. Grabbing a starter from a very strong Colts line with a runner that led the NFL in yards makes you a shit lineman in his book. Probably grabbed at least one more starter out of the 4 “shit” bunch. So it’s not even just depth but depth is important as well. You’d think anyone who watched the Giants play last year would be happy about this. But hey, people on BBI were talking about Bozeman a lot so the Giants must have their heads in their asses if they didn’t get that guy
posting Sy's write up. Looks like he has a very good chance at a reserve lineman position, and that is no small matter as we saw last year.
More vet minimum players - likely gets the vet discount vs the CAP.
I'm sick of our running backs getting hit in the backfield on almost every running play. In the passing game, more often than not the WR's were being sit on by most teams DB's just daring any of our QB's to throw long.
The OL is a joke and we all know it. We hope and pray that the current GM and staff know what their doing picking up these free agent offensive linemen. Our team has an immense dearth of talent up and down the roster. No doubt we are in a total rebuild and when the team becomes a viable playoff contender is beyond me.
I was seriously thinking about giving up my season seats because leaving that wretched stadium depressed about witnessing horrid football was mind numbing. However, I'm optimistic that our current staff will lead us out of the football wilderness. I hope and go Giants.
RE: A lot of what DG said aged very quickly quite poorly
I think the we like our guys about the OL may prove to be the statement I've seen age so poorly so quickly in all of sports.
Even strapped for cash we are signing so many people on the OL it's nuts.
The OL was so bad, a lot of us saw it but for some completely unknown reason we liked those players. It's really mind boggling
What Schoen is doing lines up with what that one scout said that the Giants had the worst offensive line he had seen for any team in literally decades.
Get any warm body you can because it can't get any worse.
Schoen has a plan. He’s rebuilding depth to start with.
all know his capabilities and probably believe he can compete and perhaps add solid depth. We have a limited budget #1, secondly I don’t see the Giants spending big money right now anyway, even if they had it. The team is being built now and depth is required too. We’re still extremely thin at a number of positions.
Hey we could sign Buffalo Bill next, oh boy is this great
About criticism for signing another scrub lineman. Getting dejavu about DG defenders when he was new. It's okay to have wanted to allocate the funds to one or two longer term good players instead of Bills castoffs.
Bates took a visit to Minnesota and if he signs an offer sheet there my guess is that it's close to what Glowinski got. Anything lower and i'd guess the Bills match, and they may even match that.
Boettger i think may still be on the table, he may be waiting to sign until he can pass a physical. After the draft i expect they will circle back to some players like Boettger to fill in areas they don't address in the draft.

Bates is now meeting with the Patriots and then the Bears after that. He is exactly the type of little known OL that the Patriots sign that turns into a great player for them.
if he's visiting 3 teams though he's likely gonna get paid
shopping in the "bargain bin." People need to get used to it. That's where we are because of the bloated, stupid, contracts DG gave to so many players.
RE: if he's visiting 3 teams though he's likely gonna get paid
Like he's struggled lately if you went by grades. But if he is strictly depth and doesn't start, it's no harm.
By signing guys Shoen/Daboll/Johnson have some connection with, at least the Giants can be more confident that they won’t retire after the 1st minicamp.
We are just exchanging bums for bums at this point

Signed with the Panthers for about the same money as the sh!t Schoen brought in would have broke the bank. How does his junk taste because it seems like the majority of you are sharing it?

Just admit it, you had never heard of Bozeman in your entire pathetic life until a week ago. Eh, no need to admit it really. You’ll lie anyways.

In all seriousness...no clue who this dude is, but I'd bet he's better than the dudes we've been trotting out of late.
Relax
Depth is a problem too
Cuz we need four OLs not one. Just saying.

Might not be a starter but depth is almost as important.....the way they get injured.
Still like the familiarity of the coaches and players.....known quantities is important.....better than bad surprises.

Giants have agreed to terms with veteran guard Jamil Douglas on a one-year deal.
Douglas, 30, spent time in Buffalo with Brian Daboll and OL coach Bobby Johnson. Was signed by Washington off PS late last year.

It's one guy. He can't seem to get the picture.
Upside Pro Comparison: TJ Lang/GB

New York Giants Sign Jamil Douglas - ( New Window )
After 2 years, many of these players fade away.
You do realize I hope that part of a functioning offense is having depth at positions

Sounds like a very qualified backup. But like nasty and athletic

Yea once they signed Glowinski I knew there was no shot of landing abates. Boettger might be in play still due to his injury.
You are not very bright are you?
Seriously shut the F up. Would you rather he bust next year's cap on big name/big ticket OL? What possibly could go wrong with that?
Because we can’t afford what the starting guys would cost on these better teams.
Backup to a starter who has minimal experience at center.
