Before next fall you're in need of a serious attitude adjustment, young man. You'd better get your priorities straight. And watch out with that other crowd you're runnin' with. Don't think I haven't noticed."
Heaven Can Wait was a remake of 1941's Here Comes Mr. Jordan, which starred Robert Montgomery and Claude Rains. The big change was that in the 1941 movie, Joe Pendleton was a boxer. Originally, it was to be called Heaven Can Wait.
It's definitely worth watching. James Gleason as Pendelton's manager steals the show, along with another fine character actor who's also in the cast, Donald MacBride. Both were masters of the "slow burn."
Remade again in 2001 as Down To Earth, starring Chris Rock, only this time he plays a stand-up comic who dies before his time, not an athlete.
I read an article recently about the actor Wood Harris and his career. He played Julius Campbell in RTT. In the piece, he mentioned that Kip Pardue was a terrific athlete with a really strong arm. I didn’t realize that Pardue was a star QB at Yale.
Damn....completely forgot about that one. Havent seen that movie in at least 20 years, but used to love it.
Me too. Hadn't seen it in years so we decided to put this one on last evening. Warren Beatty, Charles Grodin, Diane Cannon, James Mason, Buck Henry...good watch.
Huge Charles Grodin fan. The Duke just passed a way last year...
Love that freaking movie...
Uncle Rico from a talent standpoint was light years better. At least a better arm. He could throw it over them there mountains don’t ya know??
In Cain we trust!!!
Although Mack would have been a hell of a NFL Linebacker had he not gotten hurt!
In that order.
+1
He was a Rose Bowl winning QB who unfortunately blew out his knee late in the game.
Did that stop? No! He turned into an FBI agent, went undercover and took down a elite team of surfers who robbed banks dressed as ex-Presidents.
And honorable mention to Randall "Pink" Floyd, just because he is a major part of one of my favorite movies.
Perfect blend of stud and dirt bag.
The Icebox Becky O'Shea carried that team.

She would not have been in the game if not for Floyd.

Ha ha ha. "That's no cheerleader. That's my niece, Becky...and she's pissed."
Jamie Foxx is a great actor. I agree he was great as Beaman.
How about Warren Beatty in Heaven Can Wait??

Warren Beatty as Joe Pendleton in Heaven Can Wait
…beat me to it.
Least favorite? Anthony Michael Hall as Johnny Walker in Johnny Be Goode. That should have been an epic 80s teen/sports comedy. Instead, it was awful.

Can't support someone whose teammates don't even show up to his birthday and who lies about not reading sample playbook.
There is a great YouTube of Chargers GM giving his thoughts on that movie
I opened this thread specifically for this answer!
Agreed!

2) Dizzy Flores
These two get my vote too (Burt Reynolds version, obviously)
But several other good ones mentioned
