#Giants are re-signing LB Oshane Ximines, source says. Former third-round pick stays with the team that drafted him in 2019.

#Giants edge Oshane Ximines is returning to the team on a 1-year deal, source said. He played in 15 games and had 2 sacks last season.
The Giants are actually trying to build up the depth now. It's been a while since we weren't paper thin behind the starters. Pretty good battle for the backup OLB spots between Ward, Smith, Fox & Ximines.

Ward aside, because he's got his own role, a battle between 3 guys who are all mediocre isn't real inspiring.

The Giants were at 82 players after the draft. With nine UDFA signings and the Ximines re-signing, two cuts should be coming by the weekend.
Giants didn’t draft any edge guys, sure they landed a UDFA from Pitt, but they got nothing behind Ojulari and Thibs. Wink was able to get more out of. I mines than the previous regime, he’s not an awful backup to have to even come in for a couple snaps. I think they will likely add another vet once teams start making cuts, it’s a position group that we need some help at for depth.
Y’all do know that you can’t really have it both ways …
You either trust the decisions that the regime makes or you don’t. Wink knows what he’s doing … and he’s getting a known (and still developing) guy. Chill.

I'm not sure, but I don't think the rookies count on the roster until their contracts are signed. So cuts not necessarily imminent.
If Ojulari and Thibs were able to take a Dexy type step this year, our defensive line would challenge for the best in the NFC. They're young. One can hope!

I’m just hoping both stay healthy for a full season. I can see Thibs taking a big leap this year as he lost a lot of valuable time last year with that knee injury which is especially tough as a rookie. Ojulari can be lethal if he can just stay on the field, not sure that can be expected much at this point. Giants will still need to be in the hunt for a vet or tradable piece imo.
Hell, not every player is even going to be Kevin Dockery. I wish all our backups were of Dockery caliber. Wasn’t great but you rarely heard his name on negative plays. CC Brown on the other hand… oof
Hey he made one of their best defensive plays last year
Of things to get worked up about, this should rank low on the list.
Agreed, serviceable guys who we drafted providing depth at the bottom end of the roster for most likely little price. Not sure how anyone can be mad at this. Especially Giants fans of recent.
Since you asked, yes X has been proven to be a solid 3rd round draft pick. Most 3rd rounders don't last--X has lasted some.
DG wasn't an awful drafter. I think that is pretty obvious by now. HE had the misses with Baker and Toney. And that's pretty rough--you hate to miss on first rounders... Hernandez in round 2 wasn't exactly a hit but I wouldn't call that a brutal...that's really it. HE made up for some of those misses with some hits in round 2-3-4. All in all i'd say he was fair in drafting. Maybe that's being kind but i've seen many great GMs miss. DG certainly wasn't terrible. His FA moves were the issue and his overall place here obviously left a lot to be desired. No arguments there.
This will go over like a fart in church, but we stole Daniel Jones. Anytime you can get a good starting QB without trading up and at 6th overall it's a good thing. Maybe even a great thing. Don't believe me? GO look at how many teams have been forced to trade UP for the QB they wanted over the last 10-15 years. IT's basically normal to see a team trade up for a QB unless they are picking 1st or 2nd or 3rd.
who knows how much influence DG even had on the draft or undrafted FA process but the period of 18-21 saw a pretty decent influx of young talent brought in here. It's manifesting as we speak into 2nd long term contracts and a winning season in 2022. Granted, the team was picking in the top ten every friggin year but we have seen GMs whiff on high picks all too often. And really the only true whiffs were Baker and Toney and both those picks were toward the latter stages of round 1. And Toney has talent. BAker? Who the fuck knows what they saw in him but he won an award as the the best collegiate corner.
DG made his bed thanks to free agency. He was nothing short of awful there. You can miss once on a guy like Solder and even if you allow that Solder had a so so first year, he hilled them over the long haul. And it didn't end with Solder. The entire 2018 FA class was shit.
I still think the Giants were rudderless at the HC spot which hurt them more than the GM did. I stand by it. All these players that looked so worthless from 17-21 are now looking like keepers or at least serviceable pros. It's the coaching.

Camp body
I would have gone with somebody who can actually rush the passer.
Details to follow and let's see how strong the investment.

Camp will sort out who stays and who goes.
We'll see if he can beat out some of the UDFA talent they just signed.

And make the squad.
we knew they were considering edges in the draft, it didn't line up, now they hedge with a guy who knows the system.
id still hope something better comes along (and be active looking for that something better with a player like isaiah simmons).

For someone famous for drawing soeed lines - you picked up in this one awfully slow
;)
Likely a minimum deal, very little if any guarantees. He’s here to compete for a depth role. He graded out decently last year.
I still feel like he has room to grow as a player as well. It’s not unheard of for a guy to take 4-5 years in the league to hit his stride.

Remember, there is a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd team for practices.
The Giants now have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd team OLBs for training camp.

He’s not CC Brown….
For the preseason and the first couple of games maybe. But he regressed to his mean (i.e. bad) quickly.
+1. Always injured= not dependable.
At least Fox has some fire in him.
The Giants need a rotation of Edge defenders....they have 2 studs..that I hope can stay on the field more then they did last year.
Fox and Xmen showed flashes....I am tired of waiting for E.Smith potential.....as he never can stay healthy.
