D Gameplan for SF: Make Purdy throw Long

Rich_Houston_1971 : 9/19/2023 2:08 pm
Purdy is only six months removed from having major reconstructive surgery on his Elbow Ulner joint. He is not throwing much past 20 yards downfield. He is being conservative with his throws to not tax his elbow.

I think if we play tight man to man CB coverage with safety over the top on Deebo for help and just tell our LB's to attach the RB on any dropbacks for screen passes we can win this battle.

Need to stop the run first.
I’m not sure

I’d trust our linebackers to cover the underneath stuff. Also, if you tempt him to do so, before Purdy got hurt he was typically good with the deep throws.

I get your point though

I was about to say it should be a perfect matchup for Wink but then SF can just ram it down the Giants throat.
Couple of observations on SF
Breeze_94 : 9/19/2023 2:33 pm : link
1. Agree on Purdy. Still not sure he can make tight window throws outside of the hash. Take away the middle of the field.

2. Don’t let CMC beat you. Giants (specifically McKinney) did a good job on him last year with Carolina - will be interesting to see if they use a similar game plan where they are essentially spying him.

3. Aiyuk has a shoulder injury - could affect his availability and effectiveness if he plays. He’s their best WR IMO.

4. Right side of their OL is a major weakness. In fact, very similarly graded unit to the Giants. Good LT, the rest are replacement level at best - with a clear weakness at RG and RT.

5. Their secondary struggled last week. They are signing Anthony Brown off of the Steelers practice squad. Seems they will give up a lot of stuff underneath. Take what the defense gives you, and Giants should be able to move the ball a bit - even without their best weapon.

6. Don’t let the defensive beat you. Easier said than done, but I’d expect a lot of chips or max protect concepts. Bosa is a problem - especially if he lined up against Neal. Need to chip him.

What it will take to win

1. Defense needs to step up, big time. 49ers have some high end weapons, but are by no means a perfect group. Need to hold them to 20 or less and force turnovers/sacks.

2. Daniel Jones needs to be surgical - find the holes in the zone, get the ball out quickly, and set your receivers up for YAC

Will be a 23-20, 20-17 type of game if Giants pull it off - Or it could end up being 31-13 49ers if it gets out of hand early. Right now I’m leaning for the latter, but if we get the 2nd half Giants from last week… who knows!
Also Bosa Held out all summer and hasn't found his game/legs

yet.
Where SF really hurts you is Deebo in the backfield receiving a

reverse handoff. Every time SF executes this play they get like 30 yards out of it.

To stop Purdy from throwing down middle of field I an guessing Giants will play more Dime coverage to ensure Purdy throws to hashes?
The defense struggled to stop James F'n Connor last week

on Deebo. He will kill you as a runner. if he plays hit Ayuk and test that shoulder. we need to run just enough o keep them honest. Have to protect jones.

Cover 1 seems to be the choice to stop middle of the field passes.

McCaffrey is clearly a better RB, but I don't get why people dismiss Connor. He's in his prime with a 4.2YPC career average and made the pro-bowl twice.

Less about the RB and more about the run fits. They were awful against AZ. Which was a glaring weakness when Davidson/Nacho/McFadden were on the field.
