Tell me where the value is in this current draft class?

I keep hearing all about Caleb Williams and the kid from UNC, but the one night I had a chance to check in on them they both had a rough time (not saying that defines them) just saying.

Are they blue chip franchise guys or are they just the top names that people want to make better than they really are?

Sometimes there is better value in the 2nd/3rd rounds (Hurts, Dak, Russell Wilson, etc.

Are you trading a major Hal to position yourself for one of the top 2 guys? Or would you consider taking a blue chip stud at a position of need like Harrison and coming back for a guy like Nix, Sanders, Penix or Ewers?

Lastly, I’m almost afraid to ask this question here but how does the kid Leonard project at the next level? Again, I don’t watch much college football but I thought he played really well in the Notre Dame game.
Leonard the QB from Duke

of course
My heart can't take another Duke QB

I havnt watched enough of Maye, going to start

but i think Caleb Williams ks a guy you trade up for if you have to, he is frsnchise altering talent at QB..He changes the trajectory of this team immediately..

Non QB right now is Marvin Harrison Jr or go with one of the Tackles
Add Jayden Daniels to your watch list...

He's having a fabulous season for LSU. I think he's headed got a lot of green arrows to be a high pick.

Add Cam Ward of Wazu as well. He's hit a rough patch, but there are a lot of interesting skills in his toolbox. He plays a lot like LJax. Not as fast, but similar ability the way they throw and buys time.
Caleb and Maye are blue chip guys. Franchise QBs and
Anakim : 10/29/2023 10:21 pm : link
a head above the rest of the QB crop. Having said that, it's a pretty deep QB class.

The two other blue chippers are TE Brock Bowers (who's injured right now, but he's a fantastic prospect) and Marvin Harrison Jr., who, if healthy, could be the best WR in the NFL straight out of the gate.

And then there are guys who are creeping into that blue chip territory like Florida State WR Keon Coleman (top-10 player all-day long), the UCLA EDGE guy Latu, Florida State EDGE Jared Verse, Alabama CB Kool-Aid McKinstry and Illinois 3T Johnny Newton. And then there are the O-Linemen like Penn State's Olu Fashanu and Notre Dame's Joe Alt.

If we draft in the top-3, I'm taking Caleb, Maye or Marvin Harrison Jr. If we pick 6th or 7th, I want Keon Coleman.

The NFL is going to look at both of those guys as Malik Willis redux.

And rightfully so.
Is Sanders a player?
Chris684 : 10/29/2023 10:24 pm : link
Would he need a year to get his feet wet behind a vet QB, at least to start out?

Obviously if Jones’s neck allows him, he can enter year 2 as the placeholder for for him.

Otherwise we can sign a vet to go along with him.

He's a player. But he's taking a beating this year with the worst OL in college football. He got hit 17X last night against UCLA. They pummeled him. But he's very tough, poised and keeps showing up.

OK - why?
I’m coming around on Nix
GiantGrit : 10/29/2023 10:41 pm : link
If the Giants can’t pick the top 2 guys I could live with Daniels or Nix. He’s improved a lot over the last two years.

Daniels will end up going first round, Nix I could see late firstor top of 2nd. This is a great QB year, Giants will hopefully consider taking more than 1 guy. The room needs young talent.

Penix could be very good - if you protect him. He’ll fall b/c of the injury history and the fact he looks to be more of a traditional pocket passer with limited escapability.

Shadeur has a lot of arm talent and i’m impressed with his toughness. Takes a beating and just keeps playing. I think he should stay another year.

Riley Leonard is a solid prospect as well. I trust Daboll & Schoen, a lot of talented guys coming out and I think they would pick the right guy. I hope they get the chance.

Last line is spot on. Deion is flashy but both of his kids always come to play and play hard.

BigBlueBuff : 10/29/2023 11:07 pm : link
Drake Maye is the best qb in the class, hands down. Just based on consistency I’d say that Caleb Williams is a tier below him imo. It’s a good year to need a qb though because there will be value to be had throughout the draft.

Keon Coleman is the truth and if Harrison Jr. wasn’t such a freak of nature he’d be the first WR off the board. Easy top ten value.

Because as great as their inherent athletic talent, neither has been asked frequently to actually read and react to pro-set defenses, and when they have they haven’t performed well.

Willis against KC comes to mind. Great athlete, great kid, not ready for apes of the NFL game.

Who in college has? The college game, especially on D, is amateur hour.

The major brands (Bama, Georgia, etc) aren't running a lot of sophisticated stuff. The reason why the look better is because of the quality of athlete the recruit, and how many of those they have.

Hands down? No.

But a case can be made to take Maye #1. There is a lot of Joe Burrow in his game.

Agreed re AL, UGA, etc. -- it's different game, and a kid from Wyoming or Texas Tech might just be a better fit for the NFL game.

List of Dawgs and Tide excelling behind center in the NFL in the 21st century is short -- basically nonexistent.
Not that it means a ton

But Caleb has had his team looking like trash for over a month now… overtimes against Arizona state, blowout L to ND etc…

I see jayden daniels as a bigger, smarter Lamar Jackson. He's the guy I really want at 7-10. If we could get Drake maye or Caleb wilkiams I wouldn't pass them up, but daniels would make me very happy

Jayden daniels plays in the sec for LSU, he's nothing line Willis out of liberty besides the fact that they both black. U wearing clownshoes?
Maye and
BigBlueCane : 10/30/2023 4:02 am : link
Nix will be the two the Giants are interested in if Daboll stays.

Possibly Penix depending how they feel about his age/injury history.

A&M's contributions?
PA Aggie : 10/30/2023 7:32 am : link
Ainias Smith, WR/back 5'10" 200, has good hands and wheels, currently senior, not sure if any eligibility left? Crappy qb and OL play (sound familiar?) has limited his numbers.

Edgerrin Cooper, LB 6'3" 230. A junior, and since A&M is having a completely average season (thank you again, Jimbo), tough to guess if he will declare? He has a nasty streak and plays at a high gear. He could be a diamond in maybe fourth/fifth round?

We have a few young guys on the DL that may be quality NFL guys (Walter Nolen may be another Von or Myles?). Give them another year or two. Jimbo can't coach, but he can somehow recruit?
I struggle with Maye a little, is he a guy
barens : 10/30/2023 9:00 am : link
that has that much talent? What separates him and Jones?

I do like JJ McCarthy, but we will have to see how he plays against Penn State and Ohio State when he gets consistent pressure from the defense. But he's a player who has the type of college arc you like. Last year the running game was carrying the offense, this year, McCarthy has been the dominant figure on offense.
