I wouldn’t say little chance, but I do think Daboll will take into account what the position coaches say, what the foundational pieces of the D say, etc. He isn’t clueless to ignore the loss of someone like Leonard Williams, but he also won’t ignore that it took way too long for the team to gel especially at LB.
Wink is fine. The Giants need better players and need their young guys to develop. They are a really good defense when it all comes together but they have two rookie corners and not enough talent at edge.
be out. He was a magician last year, but less impressive this year. My guess is he stays.
My book on him:
1). Will make young/bad QBs pay through creative pressure.
2). Can be abused by more competent QBs.
3). Will always give up some big, stupid looking plays during the year. The kind of stupid that gets you fired.
Overall I like his style and am happy with him. But, I think you have to live with #3 especially which can be hard on a HC. I actually think he would be a better HC than DC, but is probably too old to even find out.
in the NFL. Run D has not been good the past two years under Wink. I see most of those yards coming up the middle too?! ILBs are now a positive, however, I believe some of those running yards are coming against them too. Anyway, if the D could get another DT to shore up the front and another Edge to help with the pass rush, I think this D could be something pretty special. I see the potential there. I wouldn't get rid of Wink. This D has to grow now in his system. It's a very young unit too.

_____________
Really hard to play run defense when your front 7 turns into a front 5 or front 6.
For what Wink's D is supposed to be as one of three complementary units. Give some plays, make as many or more impact plays, keep points off the board.
Defensive pressure only works if the opposition is under pressure to score.

I agree HBart.
If we fire this guy because he's been unable to hold the fort while an offense goes into complete disarray, that's bullshit. His D works a lot better when the other team has to pass.
If we're sticking with continuity, and I understand and can get on board with that, we can't fire Wink. Keep the staff, continue to pound away, and realize you've got to get the offense up to NFL calibre. The D is.
Not that Parsons is another LT, but he can have an LT impact. Madden once said, when LT was not on the field, "I used to think the Giants had a really good defense, but now I'm beginning to think it's just LT and ten other guys."

If the offense was performing as well as the D, the Giants would be a playoff team this year.
Yet, we have no use for Wink?

If you have ever read a Manny thread, your expectations should have been a lot lower when you opened it.
