Hilary’s post below inspired me to go back and look at the 1979 draft. It’s pretty interesting - some future HOF players, including one inducted as a coach (Cower). The Jets had a whopping 17 picks in that draft!
Other than Simms and Gray, the Giants didn’t do too well - but obviously Simms turned out to be their most important selection of the era other than LT a couple of years later. Anyway, if you want to scroll through for some nostalgia, here’s the link.

It's a lot of fun to review with over 40 years hindsight.
1979 Giants draft Simms - ( New Window )
I will say, if Simms had gone to SF and Montana to NY, Phil would probably have had an amazing career and Glass-Jaw Joe Montana wouldn't have cleared 84' with those awful OL's - Simms was sacked over 50 times more than one of those seasons.

Simms was the man, after he started lifting with the OL guys.... But that skinny lil kid from Moorehead earned his stripes with me forever, one tough SOB
Simms has talked about Bill Walsh working him out pre-draft and being told the Niners planned to take him, if available! Worked out well for both teams lol
I remember! At the time my dad said ‘I don’t know if the kid can play, but he looks like Terry Bradshaw’s little brother’ lmao
