I don’t think they’d play Dex if he hasn’t practiced
all week. They’ve made stupider decisions this year, but that’s one that I think they make right, by not playing him. Run D was bad last week with him and will be just as bad without him this week. If no Dex, you might see more McFadden blitzing up the gut, as there will be no push in the center of the line to get to the QB. Ojulari also needs to show up and help KT or it’s going to be another long game. Lastly, I think the Pats will run the ball down our throats, at least they’re going to try. That’ll also take the heat off their QB. That said, I think the stadium will be fairly empty today and that it’ll be another close game decided by a FG.
Do we have a legitimate back-up who can start the beginning of next season or fodder when new, exciting QB's are available in the draft and Jones comes back.
So far I have been impressed with his moxie and guts. I hope he excels! So for that...today's game will be interesting to watch.

When the Giants waived Tommy DeVito at final cuts in August, the Patriots wanted to sign him to the practice squad.
DeVito decided to stay home with NYG, but he gave New England's offer a lot of thought. Went with his gut, and now he's here. The pride of Cedar Grove easily could've been there
• The Tommy DeVito story has been fun. We're going to find out today if it's real. The Patriots' defense isn't very good, particularly against the pass, but this is still a Belichick-led defense coming of a bye against a rookie QB.
Rookie QBs are 6-24 with 25 TDs and 44 INTs against Belichick's defenses in New England. Daniel Jones went 15-for-31 for 161 yards, 1 TD and 3 INT in a 35-14 loss to the Patriots as a rookie in 2019.
Daboll has gone against his former boss with a rookie QB twice as an OC. Josh Allen went 20-for-41 for 217 yards, 1 TD and 2 INT in a 24-12 loss with the Bills in 2019. Colt McCoy went 14-for-19 for 174 yards, 0 TD and 0 INT in a 34-14 win in 2010 (29 carries, 184 yards and 2 TDs from Peyton Hillis went a long way in that one).
• Giants only dressing two tight ends is curious when you'd expect a run-heavy game plan. Then again, Pats' run defense is solid and they'll surely be focused on Saquon (like every opponent). He has 13 carries for -1 yards in the first halves of the past two games, demonstrating that focus from opponents. Giants weren't afraid to let DeVito sling it out of 11 personnel last week.
• Will be fun to watch Saquon match-up with Jabrill Peppers, who is having a really good season with the Patriots. Those two had some good practice battles when Peppers was with the Giants. Patriots got Peppers cheap after he tore his ACL in his final season with the Giants in 2021.
• Looking ahead to free agency: If you're in the move-Neal-to-guard camp, it's a pretty weak tackle class. Keep an eye on Patriots RT Michael Onwenu, who could be the best option on the market.
• Not expecting Dexter Lawrence to play. That leaves a big void in the defense — literally and figuratively. He hasn't missed a game due to injury in five seasons, which is another impressive feat for the 340-pounder. Will be interesting to see how much Lawrence's absence impacts Thibodeaux.
• Wink feasts on bad QBs/offense. I present you Mac Jones and the Patriots' 31st-ranked scoring offense (just .6 ppg more than the Giants!). Not expecting six takeaways again, but have to figure this should be another strong defensive showing.
• Prediction: Patriots 13, Giants 10. I just can't pick an undrafted rookie QB against a Belichick defense.

The 49ers's QB, Brock Purdy, was 262nd overall in the 2022 NFL Draft and the Cowboys QB, Dak Prescott, was 135 overall. These teams are vastly superior in offense to the Giants in large part because they have better-built and coached teams.

way to get Hyatt more involved is to do what they just did, throw him more crossing routes where he can get YAC. It would be great if we could complete some deep balls to him, but that doesn't seem likely with a UDFA rookie QB and a poor OL that can't hold up in pass protection that long.

And as a 65-year-old Giants fan who lived thru the '70s too, there is a difference between taking and fans wanting a loss. Those '70s teams were putrid. Your "Giants way" hasn't gotten them anywhere for more than a decade. There is nothing wrong in this scenario with wanting them to play the young guys as much as possible to get experience, wanting them to play well, but still lose, if it means 10 to 15 years of really good football because they can find a franchise QB. We're tanking - at least legally. Not our fault Mac Jones is awful. If the Giants weren't tanking, they wouldn't have traded Leonard Williams, and they'd be starting the veteran, Matt Barkley, at QB. Starting an UDFA at QB when you're 3-8 is the definition of tanking.
The UDFA is the better QB than the 15th overall pick, Mac Jones. The Giants will have a chance to draft a QB. It's about who you pick, not where you pick.
But literally not one person who analyses prospects thinks Mac Jones is the caliber or Caleb or Drake. He’s not even remotely close to Jayden Daniels. These are elite prospects we’re talking about.
I don’t quite understand how the anti-tank people are also the “Shoot Daniel Jones into the sun” people. Winning games in a meaningless season against a dreadful team doesn’t build culture. It doesn’t do shit.

In my view, no matter what our record ends up being we are still
2 losses better off in draft position than we deserve to be. Those losses to the Jets and Buf were fluky "once in a blue moon" type losses. Also I think if we were healthy we wouldn't even be close to this record, so overall I think our draft spot will be better for us than our team talent deserves

Your complaint would make sense on 1st or 2nd down. But he's trying to get a first down on 3rd and 2. Throwing it away doesn't get it. It's worth the risk of a sack to try to extend the play and get a first down.

• The Tommy DeVito story has been fun. We're going to find out today if it's real. The Patriots' defense isn't very good, particularly against the pass, but this is still a Belichick-led defense coming of a bye against a rookie QB.
Rookie QBs are 6-24 with 25 TDs and 44 INTs against Belichick's defenses in New England. Daniel Jones went 15-for-31 for 161 yards, 1 TD and 3 INT in a 35-14 loss to the Patriots as a rookie in 2019.
Daboll has gone against his former boss with a rookie QB twice as an OC. Josh Allen went 20-for-41 for 217 yards, 1 TD and 2 INT in a 24-12 loss with the Bills in 2019. Colt McCoy went 14-for-19 for 174 yards, 0 TD and 0 INT in a 34-14 win in 2010 (29 carries, 184 yards and 2 TDs from Peyton Hillis went a long way in that one).
• Giants only dressing two tight ends is curious when you'd expect a run-heavy game plan. Then again, Pats' run defense is solid and they'll surely be focused on Saquon (like every opponent). He has 13 carries for -1 yards in the first halves of the past two games, demonstrating that focus from opponents. Giants weren't afraid to let DeVito sling it out of 11 personnel last week.
• Will be fun to watch Saquon match-up with Jabrill Peppers, who is having a really good season with the Patriots. Those two had some good practice battles when Peppers was with the Giants. Patriots got Peppers cheap after he tore his ACL in his final season with the Giants in 2021.
• Looking ahead to free agency: If you're in the move-Neal-to-guard camp, it's a pretty weak tackle class. Keep an eye on Patriots RT Michael Onwenu, who could be the best option on the market.
• Not expecting Dexter Lawrence to play. That leaves a big void in the defense — literally and figuratively. He hasn't missed a game due to injury in five seasons, which is another impressive feat for the 340-pounder. Will be interesting to see how much Lawrence's absence impacts Thibodeaux.
• Wink feasts on bad QBs/offense. I present you Mac Jones and the Patriots' 31st-ranked scoring offense (just .6 ppg more than the Giants!). Not expecting six takeaways again, but have to figure this should be another strong defensive showing.
• Prediction: Patriots 13, Giants 10. I just can't pick an undrafted rookie QB against a Belichick defense.

I get that argument, but I also think Parcells saw the writing on the wall with that team aging and he screwed the team with his late decision. Handley also did go 8-8 in one of his two seasons. Not defending Handley, but there were some bigger issues than just him.

They gave up 174 yards on the ground last week with him in there! There’s something not right if the Run D gives up those kind of yards. They were also giving up yards when Leo was here and so there’s no excuse other then poor assignments, gap control.

Hurts us, helps NE, as far as picking first. But it would keep Giants in front of the 4 win teams. Need wins by Atlanta, TB, Arizona today (we'd tie for no. 2, if Rams win we'd be tied for 3rd), Tennessee, and Bears tomorrow night. All are possible. Chargers would be nice, but they are home to the Ravens, so unlikely.

We're tanking - at least legally. Not our fault Mac Jones is awful. If the Giants weren't tanking, they wouldn't have traded Leonard Williams, and they'd be starting the veteran, Matt Barkley, at QB. Starting an UDFA at QB when you're 3-8 is the definition of tanking.

Can’t we just say neither is a starting quality NFl qb and move on. The next Giants franchise qb isn’t on the roster and may not be for some time, given the meaningless win the Giants are about to compile. Your complaint would make sense on 1st or 2nd down. But he's trying to get a first down on 3rd and 2. Throwing it away doesn't get it. It's worth the risk of a sack to try to extend the play and get a first down.
