There is so much time left still for these other QB's to make a jump (conference championship, bowl games, combine, interviews). Why are we so sure Williams-Maye go 1-2?
they will not be in the top 5. If they truly want and feel one of the top 3 is an absolute stud, they could always attempt to trade up using future #1 or #2s if necessary.
FWIW, it seems Daniels stock is up, while Maye is possibly falling.
A trade-up can always happen though. I think if they lose out that they till could finish as high as 2nd or 3rd still, but number 1 is just about done.
Very hard to judge which QB can make that huge leap to NFL. Williams has a lot of hype and Maye has looked pretty bad as the season goes on . There are no locks in this draft besides Harrison really. Regardless of draft position Schoen has to get HIS guy. I am OK with anyone he chooses that is not named Jones .
Long way to go before the final QB rankings are in.
Both guys have warts and we have Jayden Daniels flying up draft board.
JD might end up the top rated QB in the draft.
If the Giants lose out on Williams or Maye, and have like the 5th pick. Daniels isn’t available either. Would they be better off getting the BPA at 5, and taking a QB high in the second round? Or would you trade up late in the 1st and grab a QB for the 5th year option?
Despite the hype, no QB in this year’s crop looks like that “sure fire” generational QB so I could see one slip if a team decides that a Marvin Harrison Jr., an OT, or an edge rusher is far better than what they can get at that position on Day 2 versus dropping from top tier to someone like a Bo Nix. Look at Will Levis last year.
and rarely plays out the way people say it will when they make predictions the day before.
We're supposed to definitively state that the Giants have missed out on the opportunity to draft one of these guys in November?
Before the college QBs have wrapped up their season? Before the NFL season is over? The draft order is not even close to set. Odds favor the Giants winning 1 or fewer games moving forward.
Some people here need to get off the ledge. This can play out a bunch of different ways still.
And upon pushing through the simulator for the rest of the year, if the NYG lose out the best we can do is get to 5. So yeah they are out of the running from a natural W-L perspective. The problem I see is the likely 1-3 (Chicago-Pats-Cards) may not be open to trading out. I could see them staying put and taking Williams-Maye-Harrison.
The Giants might finish in the 3-7 slot range, and might just miss out on these 4 guys all together.
there's a better than 50% probability that none of these will be the best player in the draft when we look back 5 years from now. there's a very good chance the best NFL QB of this draft class isn't in this group.
Me too. I think his stock keeps rising to the point I could see him going anywhere in the top 4, including #1, depending on who picks. I would be very happy with him, which means we can't expect one of the big 3 if we fall as low as 5.
Jayden Daniels and Michael Penix are better than both.
This. It's not a damn 2-QB draft and there's plenty of value to be had by taking one of the other guys. Just make it happen; I don't want to hear some lame excuse that they "didn't love the other QBs" like we heard from them when Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson were available in 2018.

There is no such animal as a "sure fire generational qb." There are guys with skill sets and resumes. Some have had 4 or 5 years of professional qb coaching in college so what they are in college is essentially what they are going to be in the pros.
See who has athletic tools and seems to throw with some anticipation- like a hockey or soccer player can recognize and anticipate the play. Don't assume these big college qb's are going to make big mechanical improvements- they've all had 4 years of pro qb coaching. And don't fall for the hype machines. It may very well be that the best qb candidate is not among the group from the semi-pro college programs.
I hope the Giants give all the QBs they're interested in the S2 Cognition test.
That seems to be as important as anyone pre draft measurement. If the Giants find a QB with elite arm talent and he scores well on the S2, Draft that guy.
I'd prefer Williams, Daniels, Nix, and JJ over him (maybe others too). Ewers sounds like he is staying in school, but if he comes out him too.
There are a lot of good QBs in this draft. Different skillsets, but all pretty close in production IMO. I bet there will be a few from above there at the top of rd 2
Daniels. Lamar Jackson
Nix Drew Brees even though he’s retired
Drake Maye. Sam Darnold
Caleb Williams. Jamies Winston
Call me crazy but I think Nix and Daniels should be 1-2
JJ McCarthy 5th and Carson Beck 6th
These are weird, self-serving comps. Caleb Williams has a great TD to turnover ratio. So how is he like Jameis Winston? If he's Jameis Winston with a great TD:turnover ratio, then he's an all time great QB. But I don't think you meant that.
It would be like me saying my comp for Williams is Mahomes and my comp for Daniels is Vince Young.
May not be, but both are legit talents and top 5 picks. If every franchise waited for a Luck or Manning, they would never find the next guy. Was Mahomes, Burrow, Allen, Tua etc. a Manning or Luck?

Jamies was a number 1 pick. All the experts said he was a franchise QB
I think Caleb is a bust
Just ask Sonny from draft day movie. Lol

Earl,
I don’t disagree with your comps, but help me with the logic. Would you take Darnold and Winston in the first round?
Yea. But see how they turned out
All I’m saying is I don’t think Caleb or Drake will be franchise altering QBs
I think Daniels and Nix have a better chance

You registered January 2023, I could not give a fuck less of your opinion.
He did not really stand out against Duke.
Again, are we sure Maye is going 2 overall?

Well, registering all the way back in 2005 still isn't going to make your OP any better.
