That was a fun game, and a really impressive win. The fourth line that was being called a liability early on is turning into an imposing line that is now starting to produce some offense. This should be a win for the Rangers tonight, but it's never that easy in the NHL. Buffalo is without Thompson for a while, and they're in a major rut right now, coming off a terrible loss in Newark. I'm expecting Igor in the crease tonight, and is this the last game without Fox? He's eligible to return on Wednesday.

the training camp/early season stuff was hilarious. Quick was finished, Laf can't play and never will, no 4th line, on and on.

Don't forget, Panarin is invisible! It's almost as if people forget that preseason means one thing: NOTHING!
Vince reporting that Fox is a full participant at the morning skate today. No word on whether he'll play Wednesday when eligible, but that's a pretty good sign. Igor in net tonight. Let's keep stacking W's.
Othmann had a great start in Hartford, then he slowed down for a stretch. Now he's got 3 goals in his last 3 games again, up to 13 points in 18 games. Gabe Perreault is lighting it up at BC with 20 points in 14 games. It's hard to imagine any current players coming out of the lineup, especially once Chytil returns, but it's also hard to imagine Othmann will not get a call-up at some point. I know everyone's going to say he should replace Wheeler, but I think Wheeler is going to have a big impact going forward. He's been more noticeable as the season has progressed.
If we can get Kakko revved up, Mika playing more consistent, and Fox and Chytil returning. Watch out.
I still hate Gallant.
I am still very bitter towards Gallant myself. Last year's team had all the pieces to win the whole thing. It became evident that the culture had become toxic between him and ownership, as well as him with the players. They hit 110 and 107 points simply on talent alone. Now they have a structure to the talent they have, and guys buying in. I'm sure there will be points in the season and in future seasons when we're complaining about Laviolette, but for right now, the dude is my favorite sports figure.
Regarding Mika, this is typical of him to start slow, and I definitely already see signs of him coming out of his slump. Great thing about him is that even despite his scoring struggles, he has played a solid defensive game and been a plus player on the PK, which is what makes Mika so special.

As long as Panarin keeps thinking "SHOOT FIRST" he makes himself and everyone around him better. He's been passing up open shots a bit more frequently lately, notably against Philly. I'm not to worried about it though, because Laviolette doesn't seem like the type to let something like that go unnoticed.
I knew the Rangers were gonna lose when Vesey got stonewalled on the stick save. Just not the Rangers night.
Onto Detroit.
I'm figuring Brodzinski will be called up with the Kakko injury. I know Kakko hasn't been performing, but man that'll be a huge blow for his development if he misses significant time.

Probably, but I'd like to see Othmann get a shot
Now is the time to audition Othmann (on a top-ish line), since his ELC can't slide, so if you're going to burn a year of it may as well see how he acclimates playing alongside some talent.
website for the Rangers to get a clue how this LTIR helps the cap space. Does the prorated salary of the player for games or days on LTIR goes towards the cap space? NY Rangers Salary Cap - ( New Window )
I'm so used to the Rangers being the "get right" team...Haha

Helluva no look pass by Cools!
Helluva no look pass by Cools!
Waved off immediately—hand pass. Down by one after an errant clearing attempt.
The dreaded “Trap” game after the big win on Saturday.
Sloppy doesn’t even describe their play in the D zone. Could be 3 zip Sabres.
Need to regroup at intermission.
Yeah, that was very deceptive live.
Froze everyone.
Poor positioning by the D.
Rangers just off their game tonight
Meanwhile, Boston is in free fall, getting shut out by Columbus

The Bruins lost 5-2 to Columbus last night, too.

Unless of course they come out and tell you the details, which is rare unless it's a torn ACL or something like that.
-Kakko injury is serious but not considered season-ending.
-Fox will play tomorrow.
