I am getting a sense many, myself included, are resigning ourselves to getting Nabers as a decent consolation prize if we don’t go QB at 6 or with a move up. I think more than a few of us will go nuts if the Chargers take Nabers at 5. For whatever reason, Odunze doesn’t seem on the same level as Nabers.
He likes to ground and pound
He understands the need to protect his QB.
Last year, Herbert got killed (and eventually got knocked out of action).
I would think he will see OL as his biggest offensive need.

I agree
They took Chase.
Harbaugh is old school when it comes to offensive philosophy, and that's why I'm not 100% sure they stay and take Nabers.
+1 on this ....
Totally agree with you!
Chargers would be wise to draft offensive line. They need to protect their star QB who has had injuries in each of the last two years. He’s also not a mobile QB who you kind of expect to get nicked up which makes him getting hurt an even bigger condemnation on their current line.
Have you seen the NFL lately? All the top WRs are Nabers size. This isn't the 90s or early 2000s.
HUGE fan of Jared Verse! Reminds me a lot of the Jets Jermaine Johnson. I think a Jared Verse scenario might entail a slight trade down, which is fine by me!

but Odunze has that prototypical size/speed combo of an elite WR1.

Nabers vs Odunze reminds me of the OBJ and Mike Evans draft. The thing the sticks out to me about Nabers is that he gets so much separation, against SEC defenses nonetheless. I love Odunze too but his tape scares me a bit in that a lot of his catches and big plays are contested. Contested catches are important but you also want to see college WRs getting serious separation.
Bowers would be ideal for them.
Give Herbert a security blanket. Bowers is favorably compared to Kittles.
I do think that out of all the variables in the top 5 of this draft, what the Chargers do at #5 will be most significant and sting the most assuming we don’t trade up. Now that I think about it, I would not be surprised if we trade up to #5 if we feel that strongly with a particular player.
My worst case scenario is an OT at 6. Yes we need to fix the OL in the worst way but we cant keep throwing 1st rounders on the line and still not have a good unit. That would be 3 high 1sts and a 2nd rounder. It would be pretty pathetic if they still didnt play well.
I am pounding the table for a WR. I think a WR opens this offense up and makes other teams back off a bit on the LOS. Regardless of who is QB, if we roll out the same WRs next year this team its just not going progress this team. In a passing league you need WRs.
I think if one of the big 4 QBs is still there at 5 then it's almost certain some team will trade San Diego the farm to move up in front of us. If not, they'll select Harrison or an offensive lineman.
If they take Nabers, then that means one of the QBs would be there for us at #6.
That’s what I think.

Completely agree with this... I would say the biggest threat is AZ who needs WRs more than Chargers.

I completely disagree with this.. We have know way of knowing if Jalin Hyatt can be the number 1? The few times that D.J had more then 1/2 a second to get the ball to him, I think he looked pretty darned good, his speed can not be denied.
It doesn't matter if we drafted Offensive Line 1st round in the past 30 drafts, a stud lineman solves lots of problems
Ten years from now our line is still going to be a problem, time to stop trying and actually fix it.. We need bodies, coaching, schemes, etc..The team needs to be aggressive with this

I predict - ( New Window )

I'm guessing the OL talk will end when the Giants sign a big ticket OL in free agency. It will be a QB, a WR, or Bowers if the Giants stay at #6. I predict - ( New Window )
If this happens, I'm all in for Bowers or WR/then go O-Line in round 2..Don't stop in free agency
We will I bet. Harbaugh doesn't wanna miss his guy and trading down with us ensures they get the player he wants whether it's Alt, Nabers, Bowers or someone else. He knows what he wants to build that team and he won't risk missing that blue chip building block juet for extra draft capital in a draft that isn't very deep especially.

We will trade a 4th and a 6th or something like that to get our QB I think. Harbaugh gets his guy and an extra 4th and 6th. If he trades down to 8 or further he likely won't get Bowers or Nabers or Alt.
I agree but they have geriatric wrs so it makes sense either way
As we know, changing from LT to RT is not easy, as Evan Neal can attest. I don't think the Chargers will make the same mistake we did by drafting an LT and putting him at RT. Hortiz Chargers GM, who is from Baltimore, takes the best player available approach. I believe the Chargers have a greater chance of drafting Nabers, who appears to be a consensus top 5 player in this draft.
