I meant Taylor (Short/Taylor...same, same, lol). McCleanup was yesterday's special.
vs lefty marte off yesterdays game should have been 4, mcneil 5, alvarez 6. that is like no brainer stuff i think.
i get not loving short/taylor/bader 7, 8, 9 but it is what it is if you want to start all 3 game 2.
They got starting pitchers who don't pitch very well and hitters who don't hit very well. Bullpen is ok. That'll be nice when they get a lead.
I would have made him move his feet at least 2 times, maybe 3.
given the situation should have thrown at him. 1b was open. dont need to hit him but cant groove one down the middle.
that's not why they are down 5-1 though so at this point they need to just be focused on hitting baseballs hard. hall's pitch count is up and they have actually made some good contact today and gotten unlucky (.332 xba). just get some runs over and make this a game, dont get boatraced.
even just a pitch inside to send a message. Make the guy uncomfortable to at least think twice. But no, Hoskins looks very comfortable.
Syndergaard had to be practically ordered to to do it to Utley and still wouldn't. though to be a little fair that was probably when Noah was still throwing 100.

Never put any credence into what you see in March and in September? Severino seems to be a great example thus far...9 hits in three innings does not equate to a happy WHIP.
I'm happy with whatever you can manage and if it's a new thread each series, perhaps others can start the game 2 or game 3 treads.
And yea, Hoskins is thumbing his nose at the seemingly lifeless Mets.
But, it's a long season.

Obviously no panic yet. I was at opening day with my son and there were some hard hit balls that would have been hits.
Now that Hoskins was thrown at, perhaps they can salvage their errrr "guts" and tomorrow could be spirited.
@Ron Johnson mentioned Piazza/Clemens. I believe Hampton had mentioned he had a problem with the lack of reaction.

i do not get handing dj stewart a roster spot when he has an option.
if you are going to bench baty against a lefty the 2nd game of the year, there is probably a big league role for vientos at least in the period where JDM isn't ready yet. i think we can all handle watching baty/alvarez/vientos make mistakes. watching dj stewart and zach short make mistakes in the first 2 games of the year is a whole different thing.

think mendoza said he is going to stay in PSL for another week then they will evaluate where he goes from there (minor league assignment or big leagues).

i assume it was more they wanted to let him get team workouts in like most players do at the beginning of ST before throwing him into games. he's an older guy with back problems so i get not wanting to throw him in too quick. they only finalized the contract 6 days ago.
And he could have gotten ABs in Syracuse already but my guess is they dont want him playing in the cold.
It's just feels lacksadasical.

i would imagine its a series of ramp stuff that all players typically go through their first week in camp because playing against other people is always going to be different from hitting in cages.
they probably have JDM on all their trackman stuff and want to make sure his swing speed is there in simulated situations before putting him out there against live pitching. probably want to make sure they have some days built in if he gets more sore than usual as he's ramping. last thing you want is a pulled oblique or hammy or whatever because he pushes too hard in a game situation.

i kind of buy it - it was a moronic time to do it if it was planned. the way ramirez ran to cover home plate my first thought was that the ball just got away from him. he was practically running to home plate before the ball even got to hoskins.
It’s ridiculous not to give Baty AB’s against LHP, especially early. Short has no business being on a major league roster.

only reasoning I can come up with and I know others wont like it is the manager wanted to give everyone a feel of a opening day (series) start. Mil having a LH on the mound fit that opportunity.

Watched a few games, saw alot of good things from LS in spring training. Willing to give him 4-5 starts before making a final evaluation.

I really hope That the reason isn’t because manager wanted to give everyone a feel for an opening day start. If that’s true, then we have bigger problems with Mendoza.
The Mets unwillingness to play the kids year after year is exactly why they will never be the Braves. I have zero clue what they are doing with Vientos and at this point, just trade the damn kid already. In a season where the Mets clearly were not going to compete, I don’t understand the last-minute signing of JD Martinez, which will only serve to block Vientos….again. This is such a hard team to root for.
