CARLOS MENDOZA & YOHAN RAMÍREZ SUSPENDED
Optimus-NY : 3/31/2024 1:09 pm : link
Quote:
Major League Baseball announced Sunday afternoon that New York Mets relief pitcher Yohan Ramírez and manager Carlos Mendoza are being suspended for the wild pitch that went behind Milwaukee Brewers designated hitter Rhys Hoskins on Saturday. Ramírez is being suspended three games and Mendoza one. Major League Baseball is ruling that pitch that Ramírez threw was intentional.

This team is already a mess
CooperDash : 3/31/2024 1:19 pm : link
If you are going to get suspended, then just hit the batter with a pitch and make an actual statement. And not after that player lights you up all game.

Just embarrassing. Per usual.

Not sure what the plan is but they didn’t exactly do anything this offseason that will help future years and they clearly still have an anti young player mind frame. So I don’t know what this team is trying to do.

We had better not see more than one of Short, Wendle, or Taylor in the lineup at a time. Short playing yesterday made no sense other than he's a righty hitting against a LHP. Give Baty the job and leave him be, especially if Vientos isn't with the bog club.

Hate to disappoint, but we will. All of these pro managers have something to prove. And they would rather lean on quasi-major league talent (as bad as they are) than lean on the potential of an unproven minor leaguer (no matter how much they crush the minor league level). And the Mets are front and center with this mindset.

The great managers will see the potential of their young players and continue to develop them.

Admittedly, I'm a pessimist (50 years of rooting for this team will do that to you), but when Stearns said "this is a playoff team" back in February, I was like, what? You've got to be kidding... Houser, Megill, Manaea, Severino as 4 of 5 starters? Bader, Taylor playing everyday? Whose hitting 5th (at the time I thought Alonso would hit 4). Yada, yada, yada

I said a few days ago a lot had to go right for this team to win half their games....

Lot's of baseball left....

But this team is so lifeless and the weak attempt at having McCleanup's back after game 1 makes it seem like they're OK being pushed around. I bet McNeil is not happy.

Oh, and nice start for Lindor, as usual...keep smiling Francisco...
Another start for Megill

I share the frustration and seeing how other teams have deep pools of talent and competitive philosophies up and down organizational chain. Stearns has barely been here six months. Let’s give him some time.

I'm gonna post what Eric on Li said yesterday. I think he speaks for us all with his words from yesterday's thread. I'll find it and post it.
Megill provides the same thing season after season after season
moespree : 3/31/2024 4:19 pm : link
How many years in a row are they going to run him out there as an important part of the team and expect different results?

He'll be injured by the end of May having averaged less than 5 innings in every start he makes from now until then.

I totally agree with Eric on Li's post yestreday:

I'm sorry but he is. He has no power and he only drew 39 walks in 648 plate appearances last year.

You can't run out there a .250 slap hitter with like a .310 on base who has zero power.

And you certainly can't bat him cleanup.

Ridiculous. Goes less than 5 innings over and over and over and over and over and over and over....before eventually getting injured.

I guess maybe he got the injured part out of the way earlier this time.

How many seasons in a row of literally the exact same outcome is it going to take before they decide to move on from him.

I'd like both a lot more as the 9th or 10th starter on the depth chart, called up from Syracuse in a pinch if you need someone for the back end of a make up double-header or something like that. Neither should be in the rotation, especially not on a league high $307M payroll.
whole team looks like they are still in spring training except alvarez
Eric on Li : 3/31/2024 10:57 pm : link
on the positive side milwaukee looks like exactly the type of team we should be building towards, so that's encouraging. defense, athleticism, timely hitting.

nimmo + lindor + mcneil = 3 for 24. not going to win many (or any) series with that.

vientos in cuse today, 1 for 3 with an RBI and a walk (hit and walk were against jackson rutledge). 3 hard hit balls over 95 mph including a 109 and a 106. sss ops 1.278. 3 walks in 3 games, just 1 k.

reminder DJ stewart is 0 for 4 with 4 k's after hitting .175 with a 640 ops in ST (and just 1 homer).

not really sure how we've gone from a winter of "we need to give guys a chance" to giving DJ stewart 1 more plate appearance than baty in the first series. while carrying 2 utility men.

What do you think a reasonable timeline is for him? Do you think there is a shot he ends up in Bing in 2024 and hits Queens in 2025?

I'd only be in favor of pushing him a little (if he's successful) because he turns 24 this year.
His
DanMetroMan : 4/1/2024 10:27 am : link
timeline (again assuming he remains healthy which is always an X-factor) is probably similar to Christian Scott only a year behind. Things go well, second half in AA, 2025 opens in AAA with the "word" being we could see him 2-3 months into 2025. Performance and health obviously heavily impact all of this but yeah, roughly Christian Scott's timeline a year later.

i am not his biggest fan at all but i thought he pitched pretty well. the yelich catchers interference should have been a strike out that got him out of the first, yelich was really late on that swing.

that took what should have been a 20 pitch clean inning into a 30 pitch difficult inning and 1 run deficit.

those are the little things that make good teams good teams and bad teams bad teams.

To be clear (which you already know) 100 is average. Megill's stuff looked like a big league, averagish pitcher. For whatever the reason both he (and previously Gsellman) looked like completely different SP initially (monster stuff) never to be seen again.

The Mets placed righty Tylor Megill on the 15-day injured list with a shoulder strain earlier this afternoon, and SNY’s Andy Martino reports that they’re open to pursuing external options to help bolster their depth while waiting on Megill and other injured arms to heal up. They’ve picked conversations back up with right-hander Julio Teheran, per Martino. The Mets also talked with Teheran before he signed a minor league deal to go to camp with the Orioles. He wound up opting out of that deal and, per Martino, has other teams currently showing interest in him at the moment.

Should we have a year long minors thread or just put stuff in the daily game threads?

Good question. I'll pot it on tonight's thread. I'm for whatever you guys think is easiest. It was nice to find the info from Spring Training all on one thread (A month and a half).

Having a thread for a 6-month season though might be too much. A theory: Perhaps we have one for the first two months of the season, the middle two months of the season, and the last two months of the season. Something like that. Just spit balling. What do you guys want?
Wow

Mets Game 4 of 162, vs. DET
Monday, April 1, 7:10 p.m.
RHP Reese Olson (0-0, -.--)

Nimmo LF
Lindor SS
Alonso 1B
Alvarez C
Stewart DH
Marte RF
Baty 3B
Bader CF
Wendle 2B
-
Manaea LHP (0-0, -.--)

is DJ stewart hitting 5th and pacing to get more at bats than baty through 4 games highly triggering for anyone else or just me?
I would caution against getting highly triggered by anything this year

Medical costs are expensive and you don't want high blood pressure.

Kodai Senga has nothing to report after playing catch on back to back days for the first time since his injury. Said it was light intensity work. He'll know more when he progresses to mound work.

Mets are still not committing to when J.D. Martinez can join the club, but the earliest it's a possibility is Sunday.
