Washington QB Michael Penix also met with a contingent of eight Giants officials on Friday morning, then worked out for the Vikings on Saturday morning. Private workouts could help Penix—with teams having questions on his accuracy on shorter and mid-range throws.
If it weren't for the injuries, you could make the case that he is the second best QB in the draft.
He just doesn't have what we need and the injury history is a big question mark...
By the time he's ready to play this year, Neal will either have solidified himself in the lineup, or played himself out.
So having a left handed QB will NOT be a problem.

Yep

What do the Giants need that he doesn’t have?
Not everything is as it appears

In case of a RD 2 pick or trade back in to RD 1. No way is he a 6th pick, possibly no way he is our pick at all.

Where did you see AZ and NE rebuffed Minnesota? I couldn't see AZ ot NE wanting to trade down to 11, but I haven't seen any reports on that.
Chicago: Williams.
Washington: Daniels.
New England: McCarthy.
Arizona: MHJ/Nabers.
Minnesota: Maye.
Atlanta: Nabers/MHJ.
Tennessee: Alt.
New York: Penix, Jr.
Giants trade #6 to Atlanta for #8 and #43.
I am assuming that San Diego would prefer to trade with Minnesota than New York.

If NE passes on Maye I believe they are passing on McCarthy. If they are not trading up stay at 6 for Nabers.
Lets say 4 QBs go in the Top 6 picks, the draft order after the Giants is: Titans, Falcons, Bears, Jets. All four teams will be set at QB.
Picks 11-13 are Vikings, Broncos, Raiders. Three teams who have no quarterback. If all of them like Penix, moving from 11-13 up to 7-10 is within striking distance, and it will be a huge game of chicken between them.
I know everyone assumes Minnesota is trying to get up into the Top 4, and they probably are, but they might actually be better positioned to get to Pick 8.
Vikes are not going to wait. They desperately need a QB. If they can’t get one of the four, and there’s no guarantee, they need to know how hard they have to pursue the next tier.

Mobility, quick twitch passing, good at a variety of levels.. His pro day is being so over valued and his lack of fluid mobility with an injury history is a NO!
Agreed!

Leaving JJM or Maye to fall to us.

If the Pats and Cardinals both don't want to fall down to pick 11, then the Vikings can't force them to trade. Their only hope would be LAC and that's questionable too as Harbaugh has never traded down in rd1 and he loves his foundational blue chippers. The Vikings could very realistically (maybe even likely) be unable to get into the top 5. Then a slight trade up to get Penix might make sense for them. And if Penix has a healthy nfl career as my intuition feels he will, then Penix at 8 or so could pay dividends for Minnesota.
Happens all the time. Many here are convinced JJ McCarthy is going to flop. That Caleb won't work out, and so on. A lot of factors go into how a player develops and succeeds.
Jayden Daniels going to the Pats isn't a good thing for him. Neither is it for Maye. Just my feelings on it. To the Vikings? Sure because I like their coaching and supporting cast.
People hinging their bets on college stats or teams is silly. It's about projection and always has been.
Personal preference and what people think will happen tends to overlap quite a bit this time of year

I’ve been saying for weeks that a trade w ATL could be feasible. 8 is right there at the edge where the blue chippers will be gone.
Penix played every game (28) the last two seasons. He dropped back to pass more in those two seasons than any other player, and his team went 25-3 in those 28 games...in two of those losses the score was 40-32 and 45-38.
What else do you want?

Yup. I don't think it's out of the range of possibilities the Vikings actually call the Giants, if the Cardinals and Chargers don't move.

DEPENDABLE. Is it anything more than a catchy phrase? If so, how do they draft this guy?

I agree, as Eric said, remove the injury concerns and he is a top 2, take him at 6 and best available WR in 2nd round.
Was Joe Burrow injury prone coming out? Appears to be now...
Three years ago. He’s been fine ever since. It’s a violent game seeing the healthiest and most stable of athlete knocked out of the league seemingly every week.
If he’s that good, you draft him.

He is healthy.
I can understand if teams are scared away by the past injuries, but the implication was that Penix is missing something necessary to play the position at a high level.
I don't think he's in play at 6 and I don't think it will happen but there's a reason the line moved so significantly.
No matter what, he is far better than DJ. Don't eff around. Replace Jones asap. If Penix doesn't turn out to be everything they want, try again in three years.
Get you WR or OT/IOL at 47.

Who told you this? Your Yahoo mock drafts? I’m going out on a limb and thinking that you don’t know the first thing about evaluating QBs (just like all of us) so I’m always entertained by random couch potatoes talking about “quick twitch” and the like, lol
Exactly
Same not at 6.
Not who we thought he was - ( New Window )
And this franchise is in a position where they HAVE to get the right QB in this draft. Drafting someone with two torn ACLs already under their belts seems insane.
You see criticism of his footwork, mechanics, pocket movement, and so on. Then you watch the plays he made in this game, and it's play after play of high level NFL footwork, mechanics, and pocket movement. Something doesn't add up.
I understand this may be the best film on his resume, and I guess a good question for Sy would be how he approaches a player's good film vs. bad film, and how he weighs it. But we're looking at the good film for all of these QBs. Hell in Maye's case we're even encouraged to consider the 2022 film over the 2023.
If we're talking about the best film, I didn't see anything better (including things that translate to the NFL) than the film Penix put together in this game.
Probably means they are not interested. He may not have what they consider a good enough arm. Schoen seems to draft guys they did a lot of work on and with.
I like Nix, but perhaps the Giants do not.
Not only was he poor in the championship game he also was injured and it had a impact. He had a crap run game so they had to throw an excessive amount in unfavorable down/distance (with a bunch of hits) but that will happen (some teams more than others) over 17 games.
I was thinking about this, too.
Nix and Penix are the same size, but Penix happens to have longer arms. Not sure that means anything.
Nix has proven to be much more durable, mobile and more threatening off script. And at least in college, Nix looks to have this uncanny accuracy that popped when he arrived in Eugene.
But, Penix has an upper-class arm.
Both have been highly productive in the later years in college.
If you buy what Chris Simms sells, Nix has an underrated arm.
Which brings us back to your question. If you think what I outlined is reasonable, why does is appear Nix is being shunned by NYG?

To be fair, he was injured b/c his OL was destroyed by Michigan’s DL. I do worry about his performance against a strong pass rush as evidenced by that game.
