a bit reminiscent of allen's biggest flaw (which was poor accuracy/misfires, which continued until his 3rd year as a pro).
I think Allen's issue was similar to JJM's: throwing with too much arm instead of a core rotation based throwing motion. Allen reworked his throwing motion in 2020 and he became a top level elite nfl qb after that.
Doesn't have a great deep ball. Lacks touch. Difficulty with deeper sideline throws. He excels over the middle.
All the question marks relate to his touch and accuracy on passes 25+ yards. That's not a lot of question marks, it's really one big negative. Which is very valid, but it all relates to that one area.
has a lot of upside. I like QB's who can thread the needle on the intermediate throws. Interesting comment at the end with Warner talking his PA ability and using Tenn. as a example.

First of all, it's not just about negatives. It's also about playmaking and he's not in the same league as Williams as a playmaker and he lags behind Daniels and probably Maye. Secondly, everything is based on small sample sizes with JJM. So he has extra risk due to this, that's a negative.
He has accuracy issues with deep balls, and he drives the ball better to the middle than he does to the sideline. This last one is a problem Jones has as well. Talkin Giants did a review of all the QBs on their podcast. I was impressed by Skinner's analysis on this one. He brought up a lot of concerns about JJM. And on this I agree. Can't help but feel that taking him at #6, while certainly an upgrade, feels a bit like settling.

Googs was a moron but he doesn't post anymore.
Yes he does. He was the first reply on this thread.

You keep referencing Williams with McCarthy. Has anyone in this board ever said McCarthy was better than Williams? Or do you just have a straight up obsession with Williams?
It’s very odd. There’s not one poster I’ve read here who said McCarthy is a better prospect than Williams and about 99% of the board doesn’t think he’s as good as Daniels either.
The problem is those 2 QBs won’t be around when the Giants pick and McCarthy might be which is why people are interested in him.

So the defense takes away throws over the middle. A one dimensional QB is easily game planned against
LA takes Nabors
Giants do not really think JJ is the answer
Giants trade #6 to Vikings for 11 23 and maybe a3-5
Bowers at 11 would be a very reasonable pick

McCarthy is very good throwing to the right sideline. It's his left he has trouble with but as with any of this stuff, the idea isn't that the player will be successful in spite of it, it's about what's correctable and what isn't.

We are talking about QBs in this class. I think it's fair to compare JJM to the other QBs in this class. One, to have a standard to compare him to, Two to discern if we are settling. But also trade up options are not out of the question, and we are actively discussing them on other threads. Perhaps, CW is out of the picture for a trade up, though maybe not 100% out, but Daniels and Maye are certainly in the picture. All worthy topics of discussion in this draft season.
The Bears are taking him and not trading. So I think the comparison is unfair.
I don’t think Daniels is realistic either because I think Washington is set on taking him 2. Now maye vs. McCarthy is an argument that is the debatable one.
Now if the Giants were drafting 2nd - your posts would have more validity IMO.

He’s a true asset to the board minus the “et”.

I do think McCarthy throws the ball well moving to his left when the pocket breaks down. Those look pretty effortless. Jones can't execute like that.
And Warner is right that McCarthy is like a closer in baseball who throws nothing but heat.

Did you ever tell us what LBH stands for?
Throwing on the run is one of his key best attributes. And he was terrific as a 3rd down passer, especially on 3rd & long.
Above the other top prospects - ( New Window )
