Despite that friendly first session, the unthinkable happened for a billionaire and a legendary coach: Blank and Belichick checked each other's references. Blank spoke by phone, at least twice, to Robert Kraft. Among the NFL owners, Blank considers Kraft his closest friend. Publicly, Kraft and Blank have said Kraft expressed only support and offered praise of his former coach. But in a conversation with Blank, Kraft delivered a stark assessment of Belichick's character, according to a source who spoke to two people: a close Kraft friend and a longtime Belichick confidant. The source quoted the Belichick source as saying, "Robert called Arthur to warn him not to trust Bill." That account was backed up, the source said, by the close Kraft friend. Multiple sources said that Kraft spoke with "some candor" to Blank about Belichick, though the sources declined to elaborate. One source close to Belichick said Kraft "was a big part" of why the Falcons passed on hiring him. The sources said Kraft made clear to Blank that "you'll never have a warm conversation with" Belichick, echoing what Bill Parcells told Kraft in 1996 when he wanted to bust the budget and hire Belichick. "Blank likes coaches who feel part of a family," a Falcons source said, "and it wasn't going to be that way with Bill." |

Bill Belichick Gets Choked Up Talking About His Love For The NY Giants - ( New Window )
It's really unbelievable. What an asshole.
I agree, bad look for Kraft. That said, his opinion is likely true and why I can’t really see Belichick working out unless he makes some major concessions.
Absolute total pass.
While I think BB should just ride off in the sunset, that's not a way to thank the most successful coach in modern time.
Absolute total pass.
Thank you!
It killed him when Brady won another ring away from New England. So, it wouldn't surprise me if Kraft did not was Belichick to win another ring award from New England. And basically sabotaged the hire.
With friends like Kraft, who needs enemies...

Looking back and seeing how Parcells viewed Kraft adds to it too. I think Kraft looks awful here.

and getting crapped on by the organization you led for years on your way out, including a documentary. Says more about Kraft to me.

Why is Kraft an asshole? An owner, who is a good friend, asks for an honest evaluation of his former employee. If Kraft saw legitimate red flags, of course he would tell Blank. None of this was meant for public consumption. If anyone is an asshole, it is whoever leaked this private conversation.
However, I'm not aware of the documentary of that you speak, so if this was made public, that's a different story.
Supposedly, and I thought it was a bad look for him, too. It's much worse IMO when the coach in question gave you two decades of winning, though.
HEY-O!

Yes. I think with Fassel the rumor was that there were some things in his personal life that Wellington did not like.
Tough times ahead IMO...

Like I said. The Belichick cloud will hover if the Giants get off to a very bad start.

Belichick has told confidants he would be interested in coaching: the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants.
This is going to hover over Brian Daboll and the Giants if they stumble again this year. No way around it.
He's also going to be 73 years old next year. Unchartered waters.

Makes little difference how many SB he won if in the last 6 or 7 years he was doing a poor job. I'm sure Brady leaving had something to do with pissing Kraft off.
To each his own, but BB is not the BB of 10 years ago. That team was terribly run and we noted how poorly he did drafting and ignoring pieces for Brady.
BB is a brilliant defensive mind, no doubt. I would not want him as HC anymore.
Not sure where things go with BD but if things don't work out I would certainly want the Giants to at least look into him.
With a year off maybe the Giants get a highly motivated BB with a little chip on his shoulder that has learned from his past and made the necessary adjustments.
If John is THAT stupid to hire this guy, he flushes the entire organization. It will be time for all of us to give it up.

what else is there to lose at that point? he's one of if not the best head coach of all time even if brady hid some defificiencies better than we realized.

new hires are last on average 2 years or less so why not roll the dice?
the only reason i could think of is if there's a proven coach they like that's younger who they'd miss out on in the interim (like Vrabel).
One of the funniest moments in the "The Two Bills" 30-for-30 was this interaction

Most likely.
Which makes Vrabel probably the bigger threat.
Wouldn't mind seeing Bill in blue.
As for Daboll, he got one more year IMHO cause he didn't age well in year two

I agree Belichick hit a bad patch. But if you apply the law of averages, wasn't this bound to happen?
I mean, JFC, they were an awesome franchise for 20+ years.
BB made a massive mistake with Noodle Arm Jones. Drafting him was mistake one and then not being able to build around him was mistake two.
But let's be honest. Finding a franchise QB is hard, especially after the run Brady had. Thus, it shouldn't come as a surprise that rebuilding could have taken longer than expected. The D, btw, was championship caliber.

Schoen would have to be fired too, because BB will NOT take a HC job unless he has total personnel control.

I don't think Mara is hiring BB to be a one man front office. If the Giants play poorly this year and Daboll is on the hot seat, I think he would much rather retain Schoen and replace Daboll with Vrabel.
Absolute total pass.
Yep, the Giants would be foolish to make such a move.
I've never seen that. Screw it bring him home. The guy instantly brings some level of credibility to the organization and is someone even the young guys would have to respect.
I'll root like hell for Daboll to be real successful but if it falls apart bring the big guy back.

form do I want Belichick back with NYG now or ever. He ruined the Patriots with his stubbornness. Brady left because of him and his refusal to get offensive pieces..

I don't want him anymore either (see above) but "ruined the Patriots" is a bit much. Ruined them after 20 years of domination LOL.
It happens to all of them. Landry, Shula, Noll. The game and people change, but they don't. HE's too old now.
100% Correct.
And lets not forget the owner getting happy ending massages Super Bowl week. What an F-ing disgrace he is.
To hear him tell it, the Patriots would have won 20 straight Super Bowls if only meanie Belichick hadn't made Tom Brady cry.
Coughlin
Shurmur
It would be a huge departure from their M.O. to hire Belichick or Vrabel.
If they fire Daboll I'd look at Ben Johnson or Bobby Slowik as more likely.

True. But, if you believe reports Mara wanted Flores.
Always amuses me when I’m in New England how much Pats gear I see compared to the days before BP & Bledsoe, when no one up there gave a damn about them.
Billionaire is an asshole, news at 11.
I've never respected or liked Kraft. He literally struck lightning twice.
If you hire Belichick he may take your mediocre team and lead them to 3 SB wins, and then combined with a GOAT QB turn them into a dynasty and win 3 more?
If you don't mind that kind of thing in your organization, and risking the fallout from it (AND you have a great QB), Bill might be your guy.
Parcells and Belichick did great things with the Giants, but it was pretty clear by the time they left:
Parcells (in his own mind) had become bigger than the game, and ALWAYS put himself and his own interests ahead of any team he worked for. And by that, I mean beyond what's normal and reasonable.
And Belichick has not proven to be a high character guy. He would do anything, legal or not, ethical or not to win. Some owners will be fine with that. Some not.
At this point, I don't think I'd want Belichick anywhere near the Giants. Might have made sense after Coughlin, but not now. He's already 72. I like that younger blood is FINALLY running the team. And wherever Belichick goes, he's also going to want both jobs. The Giants probably wouldn't do that, even for him.
Belichick comes with more baggage than a bunch of old ladies going on a Red Hat cruise.

What laws has Belichick broken to win football games or were just being sensationalist?
Bill might be a bad GM and also an asshole, but if you want to win, his coaching will help you win. I think he could have turned the Falcons into super bowl contenders this year. Cowboys also made a mistake not grabbing him this year.
But if Daboll blows up this year ( especially with Jones as his QB), watch out for Mara to go all out for Bill.
Absolute total pass.
I disagree with context of this about Bill other than the Offense. No way should he be a GM but other than that this stuff about Brady -- you are making it up imo. Unless your point is he left because he knew Bill's team was going to suck - then yeah -- okay.

What if he will only come if he is also GM (with that title or through a proxy), Josh McDaniels as OC, Matt Patricia and Bill's son as Co-DC, and Joe Judge as ST Coach?
I don't think there is any shadow here. Jerry Jones will go all out for Belichick after McCarthy has another first round exit. It all lines up... McCarthy's contract expires, so no paying a coach to sit, and a HOF coach available.
You'd to be smoking crack to think John Mara would be competitive with Jones, especially since Jones knows he won't be around forever. Jones will give Bill everything he wants...and he has a stacked team, something Bill hasn't had in years.
