Baty gets a pass, lol.
I left the game just before he came in during the commercial to get a banana and a tuna fish sammie. I was expecting him to give up the lead, but he surprised me! lol
He keeps it up and he’ll have some trade value.
Blowing it up may not have to be a good idea, it really may be necessary to let Stearns do his work.

Lindor looked relieved to be back in Cleveland. I'd like to see him take a bow in the field here while losing.

going to have balance whether or not return is more than they'd get for QOs.
this is why i bitched for like 3 months about signing robertson. nothing demoralizes teams like blowing games late and diaz was coming back from major surgery.
there are no positives beyond vientos/scott right now but i dont hate seeing mendoza have to deal with adversity. keeping a clubhouse together is one of the few things a manager can do. im sure it's happened, but i dont remember a team that has blown this many leads late in such a short period of time.
it's all good stearns saved like $10m of cohen's money bringing back otto so he can put a guy on first who steals second every time he's out there. he's basically the regulation version of the new extra innings rules.

This is a really bad look for Lindor. Said afterward that he wasn't picking up the spin on Rodriguez's slider, and was basically hoping he'd throw a ball. Don't think I've ever heard that one before. At the very least, can't quit on pitch before you even see what or where it is.

rodriguez had thrown 2 sliders way out for balls before that pitch. on a 3-2 pitch it's not that uncommon to look fb and look bad on a breaking ball in zone. i can remember a met ive compared to lindor who had that happen to famously...

still painful. remember exactly where i was watching it on a shitty 18 inch tv that had a built in dvd player.
Better yet…maybe when the Mets sign players, they can coach the players to the stats on the back of their baseball card. Or…gasp…actually improve their players.
I’ve never seen a team get less out of their players than the Mets. And pretty consistently.
Indeed, that is what we have....not just losing games but doing so in crushing fashion each night. It's ugly right now..
Losing Diaz as an elite closer has been especially hard to watch....if the Mets win 4 of the games he has blown, things seem different....what a huge blow to the capacity of this team to win, as no lead seems safe now. I think Sugar will be fine in the long run, I just underestimated how dicey it would be for him to come back after missing a full year. He's in year 2 of a 5 year deal and I would not move him (there will be offers despite the contract), I think he will be an elite closer again...
Tomorrow, they get Logan Webb, so a second straight sweep seems very possible..
But, you're never as good as you look when you're winning, never as bad as you look when you're losing....this is baseball and every team wins 1/3 of their games, at least.
So, things will get better, though not better enough (I think) to allow for "meaningful games" in August and September as David Stearns advertised.
Just about a week ago, Steve Cohen said "this team is making the play-offs."
Wishful thinking in both cases, though it's Stearns' depiction of the season that still annoys me.
Mark Vientos should play every day; put Baty at 2nd if you're worried about him rotting on the bench. McNeil's contract is looking worse every day.
The NY Rangers at best will play three more weeks, then its just baseball and I love baseball and I love the Mets...My big challenge is to enjoy the next 100 games, despite the reality that they will likely win about 70 games.
Lindor's passive AB today with a runner in scoring position was really odd; so he misses Cleveland and that's how he responds? Not cool Francisco...
He's the face of this franchise, for better or worse, and he better buckle in for what may come his way, as a result.
