Megill hanging in there vs a tough lineup. Problem is Dodgers have elite lineup and good SP too.

i think they are trying to get a look at baty because he is the one currently more likely to go down.
im a little surprised they didnt give vientos DH in 1 game for JDM. or Alonso at DH and Vientos at 1b. think id have given him both games.
i know JDM is JDM, but he's had back issues and Vientos has been the best/hottest hitter on the team. i dont know why they are putting him on ice while playing older players every day who arent particularly hot right now.
not looking to bury baty for 1 bad defensive play when he has been otherwise good, but another 0-fer and another game without any hard hit balls. think it may be time to give him some run in AAA.
his good is so good it's frustrating because it's such a tease through the bad.
baty and otto errors leading to runs.
shitty execution in close games again and again and again.

if stearns was going to come in and go for it, the playbook was closer to what eppler did (except hopefully with better choices made). they could have traded for soto, stacked the BP, and lit some $ on fire on a proven commodity like counsell.
i suppose at some point alvarez/senga getting hurt, diaz imploding, and basically everyone else having underperforming seasons to their norms there was a straw that broke mr met's back.
now the problem is culture and the corrosiveness of losing. it's hard to get rid of that stink once it starts festering. subtraction is very rarely addition. we are about to learn about david stearns and how much the leadership quotient in the org has changed. he (and his guy mendoza) need to lead this club out of the tailspin. they can/will purge some vets but replacing all star talent isn't easy and as we keep seeing prospects dont always = production. as has been the case most of this century so many of this team's issues are basic fundamentals like defense and situational hitting.
The one attribute this Mets core has had is clubhouse chemistry. That is regressing now too and will be gone when we move Alonso. im ready for it.
Yes, before someone mentions it, just 5.5 out of a wild card. But there are a lot more teams between the Mets and a wild card and the Mets and last place.
Losing is contagious.
The Dodgers are a mediocre team FOR YEARS until they are sold in 2012…they’ve been in first place every year since. Immediate success. It’s possible.
The Phillies sign impact players and develop their own. The Braves also sign impact players, are aggressive with their young players and develop them to be stars.
The Mets do none of this. If anything, they do the opposite. I’ve never seen a big market consistently underachieve more than the NY Mets. I’d rather watch a bunch of young players take their lumps every day than this Groundhog Day bullshit that the Mets put out there every fucking year. They literally suck at everything.
10 games under .500 now.
On paper they should not be the worst Mets team in a long time, but it is heading that way.

Chemistry doesn’t directly define as success, which is what you just referred to but chemistry does define as being a cohesive unit.
Players got along and held each other accountable but also up when needed. They showed that they enjoyed the game and their teammates. No bad blood
Quote:
They had exactly ONE overachieving year while taking advantage of slow starts from the Braves and Phillies…only to choke in the second half like they normally do. This core is absolutely rotten and Stearns hasn’t done anything to improve it. If anything, he’s made it worse.

No, my point is that this team has never had chemistry. Lindor and McNeil fighting each other, Lindor and Baez flipping off the fans, and a general malaise each year while they fail. McNeil throwing tantrums because he forgot what his role was. Bader publicly complaining about playing time. Pham talking about how nobody on this team works hard. Nobody on this team holds anyone accountable. It doesn’t even seem like they like playing with each other. So much wasted talent on his team.
There been plenty out there to be concerned about this core. What gives you the impression this is a cohesive unit?
Nimmo and Lindor have huge money and significant years left. And I doubt they would move either of those two anyway.
And they will have to eat huge money to dump McNeil because he is due over $30 million through 2026 and let's be real....nobody is trading for that contract.
I'm not really convinced people will be lining up to trade for him even with the Mets eating significant money either.
If anything his approach so far has been aligned with my thinking, expectations and strategy preferences.
He should blow this current roster apart as much as he can.
I don’t know what to do with McNeil, he’s working on a 3rd season in the last 4 with a below league average OPS. I think taking the shift away really hurt him, even if I never understood why teams would use it on him, especially with 2 strikes. To me, everyone is available, except for Alvarez and Scott.
the core isn't playing their best but the situation feels dire right now because diaz is playing his worst. they haven't just lost games apathetically, they have lost games they should have won in soul crushing ways.
But between Nimmo Alonso Lindor and more lately Alverez there is strong group of positive personalities in the clubhouse which is great for young players and attracts some FA’s. We dont have any selfish overly charismatic players and always sense a certain level Of brotherhood in the group.
I think Buck saw that and was a reason why he didnt want to disrupt the group when playing rookies.
Not saying i agree with that approach but it somewhat validates that decision.
I also think character in the clubhouse is vastly underrated and goes unnoticed by fans.
All good bro
that's how bad may has been and it's not even over.
zips just released their 2 month update and they have mets now ending 78-84 despite this recent stretch. so put another way, they see mets as a +4 over .500 roster the rest of the way despite being 10 under right now.

I was for the deal at the time but man…
Imo signing Closers and 1b to long deals weigh similar risk as rbs in the NFL
Lets not repeat the misjudgement

in fairness nobody could have predicted a torn patellar in that fashion before throwing a single pitch. that is a very uncommon baseball injury, and it happened in a freaking WBC celebration.
if diaz was even what he was in 2021 last year, that team probably never sells and maybe gets a wild card and who knows how much is different.
