It's always great to hear from the guys who were on those first two SB teams. He talks a little bit about Nabers and of course '86. It's also clear what a great ambassador LM is for the organization and the league in his reverence for the teams he played on, his teammates, the game of football, and in all the ways he's now giving back to the community and society.
Leonard Marshall Interview - (
New Window )
I still find it a fucking joke that it took him so long to get into the Giants ROH.
Such an amazing time for Giants football. I feel fortunate to have grown up watching those teams and players.
That hit on Montana... Oof!
at Pace University around 1983. There were rumblings about him being over-weight and then something about him being "caught" chowing down at a local fast-food restaurant. Had me wondering if the Giants made the wrong pick.
Was I wrong!
He ended Joe Montana's career (with the 49'ers at least) at a time when the 49'ers were a huge force in the NFL.
One of my favorites Giants of all time. Not because of the Montana hit but, he was a maniac coming off the left side. Some people can make the argument that - that was because LT was playing on the right side but, still - he was a great player. Played his role.

i was at that game. all the 49ers had to due is take a knee.... what made it great for me was all week the 49er fans on the jobsite telling me how they were gonna shut down LT.. i said i will give you a name, and he will be a household name on Monday. Leonard Marshall.... boy was I right.to this day I dont know how i got out of there a alive.

They had to do more than take a knee I would say, although in hindsight maybe taking a few knees and a punt could've won the game on its own when the Giants barely got into field goal range with time left.
Without the fake punt, the Montana KO, the Craig fumble, the Giants' don't win the game.
And Bahr was supposedly woozy and the last second FG could've been blocked, we find out decades later?
LOL.
Sometimes in life, things just aren't going to go your way.
I've made peace with 1990.
2011 on the other hand....

I thought Marshall played on the right side with LT in his hip pocket; he's listed most places as a right defensive end albeit one who often played 3-Tech on passing downs.

Carton also dropped a gimme TD that I could have caught 9 IPAs deep.
The fake punt...I think SF had just 10 men on the field & Reasons ran right to where the 11th 49er would have been.
SF-NYG have had some great postseason battles.

They certainly did.
1990 was the Giants' year, but 1989 was definitely SF's.

Bro - you have been a "true-red" 49'ers fan since you joined here and I remember when you first came to this site- all the BS you got because you owned it.
I never had a problem with it because (to me) you just wanted to have a frank football discussion with other football fans and this is the best site on the internet for that discussion.
Who cares who you are rooting for - you are very respectful and you love the sport. This just happens to be a NY Giant's site (the greatest football team/organization in the history of the sport).
