We're trying another series thread since people like them. We'll consolidate our chat for these two games and the off-day on Monday here before the Mets return home on Tuesday to play the last-place Marlins. For those of you on the East Coast, enjoy these two early games--especially tomorrow's.

The Mets flew to London from D.C. after the game three days ago against the Nationals, so they’ve had some time to adjust to the time difference they’re facing. The Mets are half a game behind the Nats going into today and have a game in hand on them, so if the Mets win today, they’ll be tied for third place. The Phillies continue to have the best record in all of MLB, so the Mets have their hands full again with them today & tomorrow.

I've noticed that too.
Philly is a great example of a team that signs or trades for star players that actually produce the way they should. Or even improve. Must be nice.
Also lets younger players feel more
Comfortable which helps development.
Mets are relying on their younger players to dig them out of the holes they dug.

Hiya Danny! Hope all's well. I think the team's gonna get reconfigured again come the trade deadline on July 30th. The problem is this: there simply aren't enough at-bats to go around. Let Baty cook at Syracuse until the trade deadline. Who knows? After that we might not have Martinez, Marte, Bader, McNeil, or even Alonso from amongst the position player group. Something has to give. I don't see these losers upping their game enough in the next 5 or 6 weeks to stop another sell-off.

Totally agree...and picking on DJ Stewart may be a bit silly considering all the challenges this team faces, but he's beginning to remind me of one D. Vogelbach in terms of usefulness, or lack thereof.

Oh man. That's tough to hear about (the knee replacement). Try and hang in there and get your rest Danny. I have a buddy who has knee problems. It's no walk in the park. I had Covid-like symptoms not too long after getting pneumonia. I've got GERD too---acid reflux. That and slightly high BP are doing a number on me, so I understand where you're coming from. It's probably all related. Anywho man, just take care of yourself more than anything else.
As far as Stewart is concerned, he's definitely just a JAG. This team is made up of weird mismatched parts. Baty has options and needed to go somewhere where he could continue to play consistently. His defense is excellent compared to last year, but his bat is totally whack. Let him get some PT at Syracuse consistently until the trade deadline. Vientos did his time to start the year there, now it's Baty's turn.
Besides, Baty didn't log much time in Triple-A, so let him go there for a couple of months and work on launching the ball and tasting success again for a change. He ain't cuttin' it at the plate in the Bigs now. Use those options while you can. As far as Stew is concerned, he's only up in the Bigs because of the way the roster's configured. He'll be shoved out of the way when the cavalry arrives in the form of Drew Gilbert and whoever they possibly trade for or sign in 2025.
Ultimately, this team is headed for a roster crunch. We've got Mauricio coming back next year in addition to Acuna and Gilbert being ready in 2025 as well. Guys like Marte & McNeil might need to be dealt just so those guys can have spots to play. Additionally, we've got a WAVE of starting pitchers ready to rock n' roll. Scott's already ready, then factor in guys like Vasil and Hamel along with Sproat, Tidwell, and Stewart right behind them. Something has to be done with the surplus trade-wise. Personally, the guy I'd try and trade for is Jesús Luzardo with the Marlins. I'm expecting to see a LOT of changes between late July and through the 2025 offseason into the 2026 season.
Guys that stand out age-wise are Quintana ( FA after the season), Marte (FA after 2025), Ottavino (FA after the season), Raley (FA after the season). These are guys who are tending downward in terms of age, injury, subpar performance, and high salaries. None of them have won before and are just better off gone.
Somehow ESPN says the Marlins oldest player is 76 years old and the Cardinals is 66 years old. Seems off, lol. Or I'm misreading it.
And just for my own curiosity -- would his Hot Corner quick reactions translate to 1B, in case Pete does get traded ??

He'd be better off in LF. He played some there in the minors. Maybe that's something he can do while back down at Cuse in the next two months or so?

It’s not the Phillies that should sicken you…it’s this soft Mets team that should grind your gears. The Mets are handing the game to them.

Looking forward to this week at home against the Marlins....by the time Tuesday night's game is played, the Mets will have gone almost a full week without a night game.

Fair enough. The Mets can pay them back in that department when they play them next in a little over three months on September 19th at Citi Field. Maybe Lindor will stop hugging almost everyone who reaches second base by then. No one on that team is their friend.

need to string together a some series wins now that the schedule eases up. next 6 home vs miami and sd. then 6 at texas/cubs. all 3 opponents currently under .500.

not impossible, but it wont be anything that impactful. would probably either be cash or maybe a fringe BP arm?
not sure it will be enough that it's not better to just waive him and hope he sneaks through, though if someone is offering to trade for him then that team is probably claiming him.

There was technically nothing illegal about the slide, but it was cheap. The ball was already out when the baserunner got there, and it was right in front of him. No biggie, just hope the pitching staff remembers that clown if he gets an AB next series they play.
