* Barring a setback, Daniel Jones is going to be ready to play in Week 1, and I would be shocked if he is not a full participant at the start of training camp. He looks great moving around and throwing the football. * Jermaine Eluemunor looks primed to be a guard. There was some question whether he would just be a swing tackle, but the team seems very happy to use him inside. * Wide receiver Malik Nabers looks just as explosive as he did at LSU, and tight end Theo Johnson's testing numbers match what I have seen in terms of his athleticism on the field during OTAs. * Based on what Daboll said to the media, it seems like Tyrone Tracy Jr. has picked up a lot of the small details of the running back position quickly, despite his lack of experience there as a converted wide receiver. * Outside linebacker Brian Burns is just as impressive in person as he is on video. He looks and plays the part. * It looks like Cor'Dale Flott is first up at outside cornerback across from Deonte Banks. He had played both slot and outside in his first two seasons, but in Shane Bowen's system, his role has been outside. |
There are obviously still questions on QB and OL, but the skill positions look so much better than they’ve been for a decade.

Nothing wrong with being optimistic. I think the sense has a chance to be very good. And we have some weapons on offense. Let’s hope the OL holds up and we got something from Jones.
It could be a fun year.

sorry to be a downer, but besides WR (with Nabers) - I'm not sure what the skill position upgrades are?

I think the new RB group has potential to be something more aligned with Daboll's coaching style.

Pass rushers with the addition of Burns
Tight ends with the addition of Johnson (tight ends gave us very little to nothing last year)
Running back with the addition of Tracy. He can run and catch. Gray and Tracy is better than Gray and Brightwell

i think this is a good observation re the full assortment of skill players, whose plays will now be called by Daboll. it seems like they have fully recreated the Buffalo 2021 personnel assortment.
Singletary = Singletary
Nabers = Diggs
Wandale = Beasley
Slayton/Hyatt = Davis
Bellinger/Johnson = Knox
i wonder how much of last year's plan with waller was leaning on kafka's experience in KC with an offensse developed around kelce?
And with Thomas and Neal not practicing, they may have wanted Ezeudu lining up at tackle during the OTAs because he is the next man up at left tackle if Thomas has to miss time. Just a guess, but what a shame it would be if Ezeudu can't win a starting job. He was the 67th overall pick, so you know they believe(d) in his talent (especially considering he was projected as a Day 3 pick by the draftnik community).

Something is missing from this…. Wonder what it is?

Nabers, plus year 3 Wan’Dale and year 2 Hyatt. Last year the base offense depth chart in August read Slayton, Hodgins, Campbell.
Theo Johnson, versus washed up Darren Waller. Maybe we’ll get 2022 Bellinger versus the 2023 version.
Tyron Tracey backing up Singletary. Last year the backup to Saquon was Matt Breida.
Who knows, maybe the young players will all suck, but you can’t argue the overall speed and athleticism at the skill positions haven’t been upgraded (on paper)

the something they paid $40m/year and opted to stick with over drafting a qb?

In a world where money talks and bullshit walks, Eluemunor signed a two-year $14M contract with only $6.75M guaranteed. A player worth only $7M/year and nothing guaranteed past year one is not what you want from a starter, but it's exactly what you'd like from a swing tackle/primary backup.
And with Thomas and Neal not practicing, they may have wanted Ezeudu lining up at tackle during the OTAs because he is the next man up at left tackle if Thomas has to miss time. Spin it anyway you want. Money talks and bullshit walks. Performance and results talk and bullshit walks.
Eluemunor has posted Pro Football Focus grades of 68.0 (2020), 59.8 (2021), 75.3 (2022) and 68.5 (2023). He has posted pass blocking efficiency scores of 97.4 (2022) and 96.8 (2023) while allowing a total of nine sacks in more than 1,100 pass blocking snaps over those two seasons.

The trouble is Ezeudu been crushed by injuries. They had to have someone ready to take that spot. Now that they signed Eluemunor it seems he’s first up at LG. It would take a lot to get him out of there. I wouldn’t expect Ezeudu to get the nod especially as they seem to be prepping him for the swing tackle role.
The path to quarterback hell is paved with good intentions. These six years will be a case study for years to come of exactly what you should not do if you are the Owner/GM of an NFL franchise as it relates to the quarterback position. There could not be a more sure fire way of losing a locker room in the modern NFL than falling in love with a middling quarterback talent and then rewarding him as though he were an elite talent. Utterly disastrous for the team and very sad for the fanbase.

If they are so in love with him then why did they try to draft his replacement?
They took their shot at the guy they liked and NE wasn’t willing to bite
If you are in love with your QB then you don’t target his replacement

And yet Daboll didn't lose the locker room...

Maybe the club will give him a raise so that it would be ok to start him
And no one argues otherwise about him not being a hard worker & tough guy. There’s just the talent component where it’s lacking.

Then why did he only command a two-year $14M contract with only half of it guaranteed? Who is more reliable PFF or 32 NFL Pro Scouting departments? I'm happy to have the guy on the team, he's everything you could reasonably hope for in a sixth man; but I think we'd all prefer to see Ezeudu win the starting job.
The NFL is littered with players who are underpaid and overpaid by their performance. Does Deshaun Watson in what Cleveland gave up to trade for him plus his contract mean he's a hall of famer?
I don't know who you mean by "we", but personally for me, I want the 5 best players starting regardless of their salaries. If it's Eluemunor great. If it's Ezeudu, great. If Neal isn't performing and Eluemunor has to slide over, great. I want whoever plays best to play.
6M-8M a year is what a mid tier guard commands.

You would have loved Joe Pisarcik.
You can love/root for a player AND realize they arent good enough
I believe Flott has starter level talent. He’s being overlooked by BBIers. Keep in mind that he is only 22. I’m really interested to see him play this season.

Sarcasm?
Dude, they had every opportunity to replace him.
They did not.
Also
They signed a less accomplished back up.
No critical thought in you at all.

First of all…no need to make personal insults
It takes 2 to make a trade….they did make an attempt to replace him…that is a fact…not an opinion….
If they were sold on DJ…then they wouldn’t have tried to draft Maye
