and the issues with the Giants staff
The most insightful parts of that interview
BLUATHRT : 6/18/2024 9:21 am : link
were the comments about keeping the same 5 guys on the o-line on the field together at the same time and the fact JMS really was a weak spot last year. Hopefully with Bricillo he takes a big step forward this year. With Schmelk starting to allude to issues with Neal, you have to wonder if the team is now planting the seeds for his eventual benching.

And I found it telling that he was pretty negative on the team's prospects when he visited the GM Shuffle a few weeks ago. He specifically talked about Jones's effectiveness in 2022 being tied to his 700 yards rushing as well as having Barkley, and was skeptical of a comeback year from him.

If Baldy said those things on BBI, people would call him a POS and a hater, and harass him until he was off the site.

Nah. Only if he posted on 15,763 threads about it every day. You know, kinda like you do. And acted like people were stupid for having a different opinion.

I didn't call our any individual. What I said is 100% true. Read what Baldy said. If you think he wouldn't catch shit for it, you're not being honest. And I've always been respectful of contrary opinions and not harrassed individuals, unlike you.

In the last week you have called posters idiots, clueless, they never watched football before, you mock people who like Jones, etc…

You’re a stain to this site. Which is why you have been continuously booted from it.

The Barkley thing is a bit underdiscussed on this board I think. If he has a great year for the Eagles - which he very well might, that is going to really really suck.
Baldy
ElitoCanton : 6/18/2024 1:39 pm : link
has always been way too high on Barkley. Barkley is already in a major decline. He is not the guy he was and hasn't been for quite a while. Giants are lucky the Eagles are paying him this money in his decline years.
questioning DJ's future
djm : 6/18/2024 3:38 pm : link
his best season was centered around rushing and mobility and he's coming off a knee injury. Not to mention the neck thing although that seems more "hurt" than injury concerns. Totally fair to worry that DJ's best came with the caveat that Barkley was a top 5 runner here AND DJ's legs did a lot of the heavy lifting. Is that sustainable? Is Jones capable of rushing for 700 yards again with yeoman type RBs here as opposed to Barkley.

IF you didn't know any better, one could surmise that the Giants are in fact laying the groundwork for Jones to be released this time next year but the one big thing missing is the young QB in the pipeline. I say that because Barkley was allowed to walk. The two have sort of been a tag team here but maybe I am wrong.

I honestly think Jones is on thin ice much like he was in 22. I guess time will tell. I also think the Giants will go the VET QB route in FA if one can be had and Jones shits the bed. Hello Dak...don't be surprised, it could happen if things line up just right. The Giants have historically operated in a fashion where they tend to go the opposite route if plan A failed the first time around. Young QB failed? Sign a VET. hey did this after Dave Brown/Kannel when they signed Collins. Then he failed and they went back to the draft cultivate young QB with Eli. They stayed the course with another young QB draft because Eli was still here but declining so what better way to grease the transition than to draft a kid and let him learn under the master, while not having a vet rock the boat.

IF the team shows roster growth in 2024 but they struggle on offense, notably at QB, they will very easily be able to talk themselves into quick fixing this with a vet QB signing.

I still have a hard time understanding the logic of signing DJ long term, then spending money on the likes of Slayton (who I don't hate at all) and Parris Campbell (shot in the dark but should not have come at the expense of Barkley) and then spending decent money on Singletary who as solid as he may be, is not Saquan Barkley.

They should have just given Barkley the stupid 3 year deal at the end of 22 and not spent and spread middle class money on trash. Just spend it on Barkley and keep the impact player in BArkley. Singletary, Campbell and Waller all combined for a lot of money. Could have kept Barkley. They fuct this one up and I will say that even if they catch a huge break with potential injury in Philly.
I've always regarded Baldy as a truth teller ...
Manny in CA : 6/18/2024 3:47 pm : link

He praises the Giants when they deserve it and is skeptical when appropriate.

Last year, the Giants were a two man team; Barkley was the offense (with basically zero help from the O-line).

Dex was the defense .

I'm hoping things will be better, with better coaching and a better roster over-all, but I can see where a degree of skepticism is warranted.

In fairness to the Giants, I'm pretty sure that Barkley and his original agent turned down a similar deal back then. Not sure of the guarantees but the Giants offer was in the 3-year/$30M plus range according to several reports. The fact that he turned it down and took the chance on the open market this season isn't due to the Giants not trying hard enough

He seems positive for the most part with what they added and then the coaching.

I agree with him about SB. Collingsworth said the same thing during the Bills game.

Without SB, Giants RB's averaged 16c/36y/2.4 (three games). Huge increase once he came back rushing which impacted the pass game more favorably.

There’s 2 ways you can decline - slowly and rapidly. Obviously 2018 Barkley is gone but your post reads like he’s pretty munched finished as a good RB which I couldn’t disagree with more, and apparently, Roseman agrees.

I’d love nothing more than the Eagles to get this one wrong but he now has everything he can possibly want to excel, it should be a lot easier for him to be good and won’t need to play like 2018 Barkley. If he’s 2022 Barkley he will be a top 3 RB IMO.

Baldy was saying you couldn't judge Jones on his performance last year, since everything started to fall apart starting on the first drive against the Cowboys losing Andrew Thomas, then JMS, then Saquan, and so on...

After listening, I feel more positive about JMS this coming year, but not so much about Evan Neal.

I agree. After listening to this I m even less confident in Neal than I was. I know squat about playing OT but one thing I have said is Neal looks like he's playing with cement feet. The first thing Baldy brought up about Neal was his feet have to be quicker. That ain't good. To me his feet are his feet
