This is the correct answer.
Mount Rushmore

Blazing Saddles
Big Lebowski
Coming to America
The Naked Gun
Impossible task...
Milton : 6/29/2024 6:04 pm : link
But I will give it a try. I'm including only pure comedies (so romantic comedies (a favorite genre of mine) are left out). In addition, I considered historical and influential context in the equation.

Duck Soup
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Bananas
Airplane

There were a lot of strong contenders (some of which have already been mentioned in this thread) that could easily replace any one of these. In other words I could probably come up with another four equally deserving of the honor in my mind. Removing romantic comedies (Annie Hall, It Happened One Night, The Apartment, His Girl Friday/The Front Page, When Harry Met Sally) and dramedies (Dr. Strangelove, Crimes & Misdemeanors) from the mix helps, but not nearly enough.
In a nod to historical context and influence...
Milton : 6/29/2024 6:13 pm : link
I went with Airplane over The Naked Gun, but I think Naked Gun is funnier; it's just that Airplane came first. It's also why I chose Bananas over Sleeper and Love & Death (and there absolutely needed to be a Woody Allen movie on Mount Rushmore!). I know Take the Money and Run came before Bananas, but Woody hadn't yet come into his own as a writer/director until Bananas (he of course would continue to improve as a filmmaker).
I am completely fine having no Woody Allen

Movies on a comedy Mt. Rushmore. Tastes are subjective, but personally I don’t find his neurotic nonsense funny at all.

Was waiting for Animal House. Unless you're too young it was instantly a cultural phenomenon when it came out. And FFS BBI catch phrase "Germans". lol.

most of my favorites
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 7/2/2024 12:26 pm : link
have been mentioned already. I'm gonna list 4 that I didn't see when I CNTRL F'd that I personally enjoy and think are underrated.

Borat: Really dumb movie without as much rewatchability as others, but to this day it is by far the loudest I've ever heard a theatre laugh. 2nd place isn't close. I'll never forget this movie-going experience.

Not Another Teen Movie: I'm a big fan of spoof movies in general, Leslie Neilsen has to be one of my favorite actors ever. NATM is the best spoof movie of that late 90s/early 00s era and just so damn funny even today.

Tucker and Dale vs. Evil: I was blessed with the opportunity to watch this movie on TV having no knowledge of the plot. Just so damn enjoying. Highly recommended.

Beverly Hills Ninja: I'm a big Farley fan and this was him at his silliest. Just an incredibly dumb movie, but always been a personal favorite of mine. "Who shot the couch?"
