We drafted a player about ten years ago whose name I can't r

and before camp he got into a car accident that badly injured his leg, in fact if I remember correctly he almost lost his leg. He was really highly acclaimed for a non first round pick, 2nd maybe, and he was also thought to be drafted into the majors. I think he was a safety. Did he ever recover enough to play baseball? I was hopeful for this kid and then he fell off the radar.

I had a discussion with Pat Kirwin about Chad Jones after the draft. We used to be in Saratoga at the same time of year so I got to know Pat pretty well.
He was super high on Jones, especially since he could now concentrate on football only. So sad what happened to Chad.
Yep, Chad Jones

I was really looking forward to seeing him play. The accident was brutal, but I believe there were also setbacks in the recovery.
If I remember correctly, he pitched, which I found interesting

for an athletic S. He played very briefly in the minors, I believe.

I actually saw the thread title and said "They're going to be asking about Chad Jones"...

It was a shame, he had some potential as a prospect.
He spent a few years

in the Reds organization. His baseball career ended in 2015. He now. apparently from what I can find on the internet, is a father of two and working for a property management company.

he was not signed but, the Giants used their doctors, at their cost, knowing that he would never play for the Giants or football for the matter. They might have kept him on the payroll for a little bit also.

He had already signed the contract but then waived and put him on the the non football injury list. This allowed them to not pay the contract but I believe they let him keep his 850k signing bonus. They the. Kept him around for 2 years while he rehabbed and reworked his contract. They waived him when he couldn’t pass the physical.

There is a picture out there of his leg during surgery and it is not safe for life. The axle of the care took chunks out of his thigh, calf and ankle. It’s amazing he kept his life, let alone his leg.
Giants had high hopes for him

I remember reading that he was considered a bit of a draft steal and Giants envisioned him in a Kam Chancellor-like player/role at the safety position.
