The most underrated move of the Giants' offseason was re-signing Isaiah Simmons.
John Schmeelk: Fiction - I think the veteran additions of David Long and Tre Herndon could end up being very important in providing a backstop in a secondary that is full of very young players. Both have started games outside and inside in the NFL and should give some level of reliable veteran presence in a group that otherwise has a lot of inexperience.
Get use his quick burst on bites to get after and make pressures on the passer, but he's too finesse to be a consistent pass rusher. It makes it a struggle for him when engaging blockers up close to the line of scrimmage, and this includes reading the run plays.
I feel like Bowen using him in the Deone Bucannon role is the right move especially when it comes to this style of defense.
I think the most impactful signing will come from the coaching hires. Not sure how “underrated” that will be. I’m rooting for Turbo to win that honor though.
Not weighing in on 'the most underrated signing' debate. I don't really care. But the Giants have been consistently weak covering tight ends for quite some time. If Simmons is better purposed a bit off the ball to cover tight ends than he is taking on blockers closer to the line, then make it so. And, even I can see his weaknesses taking on blockers.
I am also surprised John Schmelk focus on the low cost veterans in the secondary and didn't mention Linemen. Phillips on the Defense and Stinnie and Schlottman (sp?) on the offense.
Or “keep everything in front” or “bend but don’t break”….whatever you want to call it….I see value in Simmons’ ability to play a zone, react, and fly to the ball.

Simmons is certainly an enigma.....someone that athletic should have a big impact. You would think he should be a Micah Parson!
Simmons is bigger, faster....probably not stronger.

And he doesn't like contact.
A ton of issues but Parson loves contact.

My comment was Simmons doesn't like contact, unlike Parsons.
