And the new kickoff rule changes things but...
I really like Gunner Olszewski and hope they can keep him.
It's been years since I've had that much confidence (peace of mind) with our Punt Returner

A couple of things to keep in mind with Gunner. (1) He's a fumbler (11 career fumbles in limited playing time). (2) He doesn't offer any other value.
I could see him making it, but I'm guessing Daboll's history with McKenzie means something and he's also insurance if Wan'Dale gets hurt.
who I may be underselling here is Bryce Ford-Wheaton. It may be between him and Boykin. Much depends on how Ford-Wheaton performs both as a WR and gunner. He supposedly looked sharp in the spring as a receiver.
you note, many of their ST decisions last year were baffling and infuriating, including cutting Crowder instead of Shepard, and using Gray and Shepard to return punts.
Gano's injury hurt, but I assume he's healthy now.
Agree that BFW is somewhat of a wild card. My recollection is that they gave him a large signing bonus as a UDFA last year.

Asante may be a guy they try and stash on the PS.
Schoen actually took responsibility for the Crowder mess. But I don't know if he was also covering for others.

Olszewski vs. McKenzie
Agree that Olszewski’s fumbles are an issue, and he is a one trick pony. But his 11.9 per PR, compared to 8.9 for McKenzie, is a significant difference, and last year showed the value of a legitimate returner. While he’s a long shot, I wouldn’t be shocked if he made the team, unless someone else shows comparable ability as PR.
which player, Gunner or McKenzie, is the better receiver. Both are capable PRs, but I think the discriminator will be how they play receiver, as well. I think McKenzie will have the edge there. Wonder who’s going to win the KO battle. I’d say Tracey or Miller and that’s going to be fun to see in pre-season as well.
I saw a couple of months ago, I expect Ghobrial to make a difference. Guy seemed very detailed and had a plan for how he wanted to implement and teach.
Just a hunch, but I think he'll be a keeper. I think we got a young up-and-commer assistant here.
With John Schmeelk, he talked with both Tyrone Tracy and Dante Miller and both kids said they would love to get an opportunity to return kicks. That change, this year anyway, is going to be very interesting and I'm happy Schoen brought in some reputable candidates and will be forced to make tough decisions on cut down day.
different than we've ever seen before with the new kick off rules. No idea what to expect. There could be some guys who make it that we never expected.

They were never cutting Shepard.
He waves the towel on the sidelines.
